A pure PG, and a good one. We beat out Lafayette, Loyola and others. Welcome to Holy Cross, Caleb! In addition to Lafayette and Loyola, VC says he had offers from Brown, Fairfield, Chattanooga, Stony Brook and UNH.

It looks like we may need to get our tickets soon to avoid being shut out as folks jump onto the HC Bandwagon.

Great news, welcome and good luck Caleb! Does this mean we won't spend this year obsessing about Ant's size?

Great news, welcome and good luck Caleb! Does this mean we won't spend this year obsessing about Ant's size? Well, with Caleb listed at 5-10 we'll replace the Ant obsessing with CG obsessing......it will make for a seamless transition on height obsessing

Heart over height. Larranaga down at Miami is thrilled to have his 4 star PG recruit for '17 - Chris Lykes - who will be playing in the ACC at 5'7".

Those of living around here may have a couple chances to go out and watch Caleb play next season. Last year, Proctor Academy hosted Worcester Academy and Cushing during the regular season, so they will probably be playing in Worcester and Ashburnham in 2016-17 - looking forward to those sneak previews.

very relieved to get PG position addressed as I think that situation had the potential to derail long term success of program

I am cautiously optimistic about Green and his relatively small stature. Who used to say "you can't teach height?" Watching his highlights and his drives to the basket look great against high school competition. While the PL is not the ACC, it is D-I basketball and those impressive drives to the basket he might find, like our current and recent past PGs, that he ends up getting the ball shoved back at him. Hopefully, what the videos show, good judgment and passing the ball off on drives to the basket will translate well at our level.
Call me obsessed but who among you wouldn't like to have him at 4-6 inches taller? Not just on offense but defensively?
And before you accuse me of being "Son of HC70" (maybe, "brother of" since we are classmates) please note that I started this post about being "cautiously optimistic" and that he has demonstrated "good judgment."
But perhaps the best example of his good judgment is accepting Holy Cross' offer. Welcome Mr. Green.
Finally, we lose one Green and gain another. How's that for balance?

Fwiw, the three best PGs in the conference - Kahron Ross, Stephen Brown, and Nick Lindner - are all under six feet tall.

I too prefer taller PG's - especially in a Princeton offense, but kid looks like he's got good game - and I trust this staff completely to judge what kind of player they need to achieve what they are trying to accomplish; and face it - a PG 4-6 inches taller with Green's apparent game is going to be playing at higher level than the PL these days.

Point well taken. Let's just hope the 5'9" isn't after he's gone though the HC "elongator." And, while I think every D-I player should be taller than me, Calvin Murphy could dunk and he was considerably shorter than I was . . . but I am getting shorter every year!

I believe that part of the height obsession with AT is not being sure exactly how tall he is. He looks to be no more than 5'7, possibly 5'6. As is mentioned above, his greater problem is in trying to shoot over rather than pass around opponents' bigs. Decision making is the most important quality in any point guard, regardless of size. If Caleb is indeed 5'10, 3-4 inches do make quite a difference. And on his tapes, admittedly a small and biased sample, he seems to make good decisions on penetration.

If Caleb is indeed 5'10, 3-4 inches do make quite a difference. And on his tapes, admittedly a small and biased sample, he seems to make good decisions on penetration. as usual, hoops hits the nail RIGHT on the head! thompson's small stature (more on that in a moment) is likely a contributor to his struggles, but the bigger issue many people were "obsessing" on was his poor decision-making, and related to that first point, even poorer shooting. being somewhere in the 5'6-5'8 range (let's be honest with ourselves fellas... that's the reality) with a thin build limits the ability to a degree of almost any player to be a primary "penetrate and score" player at the division 1 level. i think thompson improved somewhat on not forcing as many of those types of shots (which are essentially turnovers) as the season went on last year, and i hope he starts out with that mentality again next year. hoops is absolutely right that decision making is the most important attribute in a point guard, probably followed by vision and leadership, and size does not impact these parameters of strong point guard play. while on the subject of size, let's not forget that size captures both height AND bulk. i think green looks to be built much more like torey thomas than thompson. green appears to have a solid build and is not averse to contact, and he is only a rising high school senior with plenty of time to continue to get stronger. torey was like a basketball mike tyson. green appears to have a similar frame that can help create space, absorb contact, and contribute to a more complete defensive game, as well. case in point... does anyone here remember shawnta rogers from george washington? he was the a-10 player of the year in 1999. rogers was only 5'4, yet built like an absolute bowling ball and averaged an amazing 5 rebounds per game or so over his career at that tiny height. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawnta_Rogersi had the great displeasure of playing against rogers in high school and he had such a low center of gravity with tree trunk legs (mugsy bogues, another baltimore point guard, was built very similarly) that made him extremely difficult to stop on his trademark drive and dish. he wasn't even really that quick, just so darn confident with the ball that was like velcroed to his hands with extraordinary vision and a nice outside stroke. i'm not at all saying that green is at shawnta rogers' level, just that size is much more than height. and that decision-making and a "floor general" mentality is what we need most. green seems to have those attributes and i imagine he will be an immediate contributor at hc. i look forward to the accounts of his game from our new england posters!

For the record, I'm not concerned about size; Mugsy Bogues was always a favorite of mine. And actually, I thinking more about defense when referring to Ant (out at the top of the zone), Regardless, there are a lot of encouraging reports out there about CG, so I am happy to have him on board. If we are going to just use one more scholly for 2017, I'd like to see someone who can provide some help nearer the basket, offensively and defensively. By the way, I have a picture from March of me standing next to Ant. If the reports on me are correct (from my last checkup), I would say he's about 5-8.

Coach Carmody commented publicly once that AT was 5'7" but the impression was he was just approximating, so NAD, your guess is probably accurate +/- an inch or two.
I fully agree that judgment is key for a PG but do think height opens up more options for most players. If you have an open lane, I guess you could be 5'0" and not matter.
I trust that our coaches know a quality player when they recruit/see one and Caleb has met their standards, so I'm good with that.
Welcome, Caleb!
