For game one depth chart at that position, decision could be based on knowledge of and ability to execute the offense. Look at the depth chart three weeks from now and see what it looks like- could be the same or dramatically different due to performance and injuries. This is game 1 of a new season so sit back and enjoy the fact we are playing USNA and on the path to brighter days.-

These men playing deserve our appreciation for being part of the team and our support for being part of the HC football family. However, they are scholarship athletes playing DI football, and if they cannot handle criticism, they should play better or find another sport. While his comments may be harsh; there is some truth to the notion that Considine may not be as good as anticipated if he cannot beat out Clifford in camp. Based on what we saw last year, Clifford lacks the talent and athletic ability to be a winning quarterback at this level. Are you aware of ANYTHING that would justify calling Considine "trash?" I think not. I follow what you are saying, but these are not highly paid professionals. Whether or not they can "handle criticism" does not justify such an opinion as it was expressed IMHO. I will switch my choice of words from "trash" to "not good" to be less triggering in the culture we live in these days. Don't want to upset anyone.

It's pretty sad how low the expectation is at Holy Cross (in everything). As much as everyone talked up Considine on this board, it's utterly ridiculous that he couldn't win the back up spot against Clifford. br] Apart from one or two folks, crossporters knew a non-schollie walk-on fourth or fifth stringer from Wake was far from a lock to land the starting role. Now, a schollie transfer sophomore RB from LSU who saw game time as a frosh is VERY likely to start at HC. Saw that first-hand. Totally different.

Just to be clear, I wasn't "triggered" in any way. I just felt that you were needlessly thoughtless and offensive in a way that served no point. Clearly you don't care about upsetting people, not if you call someone's spot on the depth chart "trash." But the gesture is still appreciated. Be well.

Familiarity with the offense and loyalty to upperclassman and pre-existing QBs may be leading Chesney to go with the “It’s your spot to lose” approach. The question here is about leash length, as it relates to both CD and EC. How soon do they get pulled and how permanent is that? I hope CD delivers and Navy will be remembered as the beginning of a successful tenure as QB. That being said, it will be very interesting to follow. As it relates to EC, Chesney seems to have faith in him, given how long it took to pull him last year for Wade who had already achieved varsity success, and now as evidenced by keeping him at number 2 on the depth chart.

I’m thinking we’re running and going with a few short passes v Navy if the game unfolds in a predictable fashion . I don’t know what this will tell us about our QB.

That makes sense because on the link on this board to last night's sports broadcast on Charter TV-3, Coach Chesney was marveling at how CD had transformed himself in the weight room. At 6'6" and much stronger than last year, perhaps he will be part of the running attack when possible or necessary.

I stated this in another thread and it holds true from what I saw in person.
1. Connor is by far above the other three currently. 2. Considine has a great arm. Though, I'm not sure he has the ability to run... Of course, it could simply be that during scrimmage, don't want the qb's that mobile for risk of injury. 3. Clifford looked bad. 4. Butash is learning. I know Chris well, he's got work to do.
If it was me, that would be your QBs in order.
So I agree, Chesney probably went with, Connor is QB and the senior gets 2nd until someone takes it from him. And they will.

Opening with Navy, UNH, Yale and Syracuse. Absolutely outstanding. Who deserves more credit FCTG or FADNP, or do these schedules get made so far in advance that FADDR deserves credit also?

I should use names: Former coach Tom Gilmore, Former AD Nate Pine and Former AD Dick Reagan

FADNP also said we were playing Army in a few years, so who knows how these schedules eventually happen

I know for a fact that past AD’s have been trying on and off for 25 years to get a game with Navy. Not easy as there was no grid history and dozens of schools trying to get a date ahead of us.
I doubt that Gilmore was keen on playing BC, Navy, Syracuse but ok with Uconn. Chesney seems to welcome all comers.
Pine got ink on the contracts and Blossom, with obvious connections, followed up with BC and now Buffalo. BC certainly saw 40,000 tix sold too.

Really hope Deg Jr shines for a host of reasons: local kid, Sader legacy etc but I think the QB situation may be very fluid as it was going into last year.
From what I've heard thru the grapevine, the staff love Clifford's attitude /grit etc but it just doesn't translate onto the field itself unfortunately.
Perry seemed to be the transfer QB prize/hope of the staff but blood is thicker than water and all that.
