Better I doubt it, more talented yes I'm bored this evening...gf away...bear with me The '88 Army team was Jim Young's last really good team....9-3, lost to Bama 29-28 in a bowl. Syracuse actually beat the 89 and 90 Army teams. Syracuse today is much more talented than those teams imo....would win against those Army teams imo. Those 80's Jim Young teams were good, well coached 1a football teams. Not as good as Monken's current squad, but still pretty good. From what I recall they began their downward slide under Bob Sutton.

Pretty much...they joined Conference USA in the 90s which was a disaster. Young's 80s Army teams were solid but they did pad their schedules with 1-AA teams...which was smart but they weren't playing the schedules Army was playing in the 60s and 70s.

I’m sure it’s buried in one of these threads but where is Justin Bruno these days? Injured? Buried on the depth chart?

The low point for Army was from 2002-2004 under Todd Berry when he tried to install a pro-style offense. The 2002 squad obviously lost their opener to Holy Cross -- and we weren't even competitive in the PL that year. Army finished that year 1-10. Forget if it was 03 or 04 but the Cadets became the first team ever to go 0-13 in a year where they got an extra game because of a Hawaii trip.
Army's first year in CUSA was 1997, the year after their 10-2 season and close loss to Auburn in the Independence Bowl. I can't remember them winning more than 2 games in conference play. They beat Tulane a handful of times and that was about it. Utter disaster. Bobby Ross replaced Berry for a couple seasons and not much improved.

Yes, I was going to say that Sutton had decent teams for several years, including that 10-2 mark. The downturn didn't come until late in the decade.
Tulane was actually good for a brief time in the late 90s when Tommy Bowden coached them.
