I was just up at Merrimack the other day to see their hoop team. Duane Stadium is small, but it looks like a very nice facility with about 25-30 row grandstand the length of the field on the visitor side with plenty of standing area on the perimeter. Would not be surprsied if it was a night game

Would be nice on September 5 if it's a night game. Seeing as they have lights! By the way, unless I missed it in one of the posts, it flew under the radar screen that the reason HC plays lacrosse on turf is the season starts too early to play on grass. It’s not just HC. Most college lacrosse is played on field turf these days.

As an aside, the traffic up there is brutal with the traffic lights, shopping centers, college, and the fact that multiple major roads all intersect in that one area. Even more reason I am hoping for an evening start. It is brutal trying to get down 114 from 495 to North Andover

Interesting that you mention field hockey. Not only is their preferred surface very specific to them, but optimally the field should be watered, which helps soften the surface and discourages too much bouncing. Although I've recently heard that the international body that governs field hockey is now pushing for a new placing surface to be used that doesn't require water.

I hope it's not anything like Bryant. The visitors side basically had a couple of high school bleachers.

Was also at the Bryant debacle....the home-side was decent.
Being an openah and relatively local, it should be a good crowd...it is what it is, but Fitton would have a much bettah setting for this game.

Air Force just added Duquesne for 9/5....of two minds on HC playing the Falcons next year. Gun to my head, playing Merrimack probably makes more sense next year where we already have the BC game.

agree 100 pct on AFA - Wonder how much our friend Nate Pine was offering ? Would be interesting to know if we showed interest but the Dukes were willing to come for much less

Dang....sure hope Blossom DID NOT decline an overture from Pine. These chances don't come around very often....

A date with former rival BC is enough for me for 2020. Bring on Merrimack.
A trip to Colorado Springs would be fun but how many Crusader fans, aside from families, would travel? 30?

I was there in Col Springs in '78 - I can assure you our numbers we well into the hundreds - and the weather that time of the year is guaranteed perfect

Air Force is a no brainer - for exposure of Holy Cross to the western states & a game for our alums out west. It is a great trip especially at that time of year....I doubt ADMB even looked into it. It would have been easy to book with Pine as AD of Air Force.

I believe we also need a game next year with the CCSU series moving. Based on this projected schedule, we only have 4 home games scheduled next year, so the new game probably should be a home game. fbschedules.com/ncaa-2021/team/holy-crossWhile playing AF would be neat, that still leaves a missing home game next year. Playing Merrimack in a two game series and deferring the home game until next year solves both problems.

That's my guess. However, FBS games are great to look forward to for a year or more. It's like buying a Powerball ticket. It's unlimited positive anticipation until the drawing.

I would cancel the Merrimack game in 2021 & replace with a FBS game. There is no benefit in playing Merrimack, it does not help in recruiting.

As I've said earlier in this thread - what possibly makes anyone think there is mutual interest between the AFA and HC in scheduling a game? Move on.

NHT, I understand your angst, but there are some who prefer HC wins to HC losses because they care about HC more than the opponent.

Holy Cross played AFA in 1978 in Colorado Springs, a game Holy Cross won. Holy Cross sponsored a trip to the game for alumni and fans. I was on that trip and remember it very well. It was not a pleasant trip for me, and I would never make it again. AFA is similar to West Point, as it is a big reservation out in the middle of no man's land far removed to civilization.

I would prefer we play AF over Merrimack if there was interest from AF. I can also recognize why playing Merrimack makes more sense from a logistical perspective. Quite frankly, I'd like a fifth home game in 2021 and playing Merrimack now is no different than playing a freshly resurrected Villanova program in 1985. Unlike Villanova, at least Merrimack was a D1 football team the year before we played them. Sometimes you take a game you don't like to make a schedule work. For some (not me) it's the BC game, for you, it's Merrimack.

Can't imagine going out to AFA and getting trampled is going to impress the locals and help with recruiting of course I think the same concerning a BC debacle so I guess it is a tossup. Just as soon watch one as the other.
One thing all of us agree (or so it seems) is that playing two FBS teams in one year is a very bad idea. Let's hope that scheduling snafu does not materialize again.

Would love to play AFA . . . . . . just not yet. Let's get to the Duffner era success first (winning the PL championship is not "there yet", we need to dominate at our own level first). And let's do it in a year when we don't have any other D-IA teams on the schedule. Until then, I home game against Merrimack is OK with me.
