It is difficult to have six home games (in an 11 game schedule) if an FBS school is on the schedule. Six PL games, three home. Four OOC FCS games, two home. Typically, the OOC games are home and away under a multi-year scheduling contract, e.g., Harvard, Yale.

IIRC very few HC people traveled to Bryant, which is even closer than North Andover.
Let's see if there's more interest in the program vis-a-vis then.

It's been a good arrangement. HC is 6-1 vs Merrimack this academic year in the race for the Rte 495 Trophy. Good one. What does it look like. It can replace that President or Commissioner's cup/trophy thingy given out by the Patriot League that nobody cares about. We should keep the (BU) Turnpike Trophy and the newer (Merrimack) RTE 495 Concrete Cup and perhaps add an (Providence College) Asphalt Award as part of a highway-themed series of annual honors/designations. Loser can be designated roadkill.

If we can have six then Merrimack should come to us. As I've mentioned previously, this game at MC is part of a multi-sport arrangement between the two schools; of which one contest was MC hockey at HC this past Oct. You may not realize it, but this is how these things work. A "multi-sport arrangement" with a school in their 1st year in Division 1 is completely unnecessary. We should have all of the leverage over Merrimack when it comes to scheduling. Period.

Speaking of multi-sport agreements why can’t we get old Jesuit hoop rivals and PL football members, Fordham and Georgetown, to schedule us in basketball.

Holy Cross is effectively no higher on the college sports totem pole than Merrimack, SHU or Umass-Lowell. If either school could "big-time" the other its MU since they have the Hockey East affiliation. But why is the road football game an issue? HC was looking for a home game in 2021, Merrimack needed one this year. Sounds like a win-win for all. IMO a game at Merrimack this year is more favorable than going out and having a D-II come to Fitton to fill out the schedule.

Typically, the OOC games are home and away under a multi-year scheduling contract, e.g., Harvard, Yale. Difficult, but not impossible. HC could have as many as seven if it adopted the approach used at the major college level: it only plays other I-AA/FCS teams at home. That means a lot of one-offs against non-Ivy schools and probably a game against a D-II school here and there, but it can be done. Yes, it's probably unlikely at HC because the value of Ivy opponents in the building is much stronger than, at say, Bucknell or Georgetown, where there is little fan interest in those schools. But if you were Bucknell and could get seven home games with the lines of Duquesne, St. Francis, Millersville and Gannon, you could. Speaking of multi-sport agreements why can’t we get old Jesuit hoop rivals and PL football members, Fordham and Georgetown, to schedule us in basketball. (1) they feel they have nothing to gain by playing us (2) the Jesuit connection is meaningless to them This topic is back? Must be the off-season, but it relates to the point above. Georgetown is not going to play home and home in the basketball non-conference unless there is: 1. ESPN/FS1 behind it (e.g., Syracuse, Texas) 2. A conference challenge tie-in (e.g. Big 10-Big East games) Playing before 2,700 in the Hart Center makes no sense if it can get 7,424 to stay at home and play American.

Also, Georgetown and HC never had any real hoops connection. Our old rivals were PC, BC and UCONN. Despite our 1978 invite, there's not much history with the other Catholic Big East schools. On the other side of the coin, Army and Navy HAVE regularly scheduled PL teams in football recently and going forward which is great.

Who said anything about home and home. Teams in conference that already travel to Washington each year aren't as interested in a second trip. Also, given the start times as mandated by their one-sided arena agreement, an eight hour bus trip from Worcester to play at 12 noon on a Saturday isn't realistic. This doesn't explain Fordham's issues of course. They can play whenever and whoever they want.

What is wrong with a second trip to Washington? We now make three trips to Pennsylvania in basketball every year. Let's face it, Father Brooks really messed up our football & basketball programs.

There is no good reason why we don't play Fordham in BB every year. It would be good for both schools. HC should be taking care of it's large metro NY alumni base but there doesn't seem to be many games scheduled in that area.

This being said, I agree and have always said HC should play in greater NYC every year, and there's enough schools that a deal with one of them shouldn't be that difficult.

HC should be taking care of it's large metro NY alumni base but there doesn't seem to be many games scheduled in that area. Fordham-HC basketball would be a great series to add to the docket annually. I think the game would be a very good draw on both ends at Rose Hill and at the Hart. If the Rams ever come to their senses and join the PL, this would quickly become a natural rivalry IMO. While I tend to get into casually following Fordham hoops once they get into A-10 play I don't pay a TON of attention to their OOC schedules but I'm going to look up the "low-majors" they've scheduled of late: 19-20St. Francis (NY) Fairleigh Dickinson Marist Nevada (USVI Tourney) Grand Canyon (USVI Tourney) Western Kentucky (USVI Tourney) Maryland Eastern Shore Manhattan -- annual series "Battle of the Bronx" Tennessee State JMU Coppin State Bryant 18-19CCNY @ Houston Baptist FIU Youngstown Columbia Alabama A&M @ Manhattan @ Maine Rutgers NJIT Howard JMU LIU 17-18Miami (Ohio) LIU Florida State (Jamaica Tourney) Tulane (Jamaica Tourney) Manhattan East Tennessee State Maine Harvard St. Francis (NY) @ Rutgers Florida A&M @ West Virginia I conclude my "PL Tourney Tuesday Night Pillowfight" halftime research by noting that it appears that Fordham manages to schedule a lot of one-off home games against low-majors, including what appears to be a two-for-none versus JMU, unless they are traveling to Harrisonburg next year. This year they managed to play ZERO non-conference road games with a neutral court tournament in the Virgin Islands. They DID, however, play a home-and-home with Maine. It's possible that they might be looking to avoid coming up to the Hart for a return game. That could and should be a non-starter for us.

"Start spreading the news..." If you are located in NYC why not leverage that asset. If these OOC schools aren't marketing a game in the Big Apple against Fordham to their alumni and fan base like HC did for the football game at Yankee Stadium, shame on them.
