The fact that the team is operating with 9-10 scholarship players (depending on Reilly's actual status) has nothing to do with the talent level of the guys who are here. And just because some of these guys were better suited for the former style of play also doesn't mean they can't play. Although - if you were to look at CN playing as a freshman in the PL tournament game vs Colgate, and compare it to the way he is playing now, it seems pretty obvious a transformation is taking place. We've talked a lot about AB having to play out of position - well, CN is not a 5, and he's logged plenty of minutes there. That should come to a screeching halt next year when MR arrives.

The similarities of BN to SK are small IMHO. Regretfully, it always appeared to me that SK thought his job as head coach was to be a "hands off" CEO-type. BN is quite clearly "hands-on." In addition, BN was a legitimate basketball player in his own right. SK, not sure what he did as a player. Most importantly, SK was a VERY long-time assistant coach who apparently never had a legitimate head coaching offer, which should have told us something. BN is a young, up-and-comer.
I would subjectively say that SK inherited a more talented team from RW than BN got from Carmody, though both he and BN hirings were poor timing-wise.

Without getting into the reasons, how many programs outside of the one-and-done type have produced exactly one senior starter over 3 consecutive years? Plus, only 3 others in those 3 classes that, as seniors, contributed.
A couple of these guys will end up better than most of us think they would.

Another nice clean game by Joe after a couple ragged performances - 17p, 9r, 3a, zero TOs. I read the post game comments on the American board and they are very impressed with Joe Pridgen. One thought he could be all league next season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pridgen - who will be named RoW for the sixth time later today - made 3rd (or even 2nd) team all-conference this year, He currently ranks in the top 10 in the PL in the following categories:
MPG (4th) PPG (3rd) RPG (7th) Steals/G (6th) EFG% (4th) Efficiency (9th) Usage % (10th)

The team that SK inherited was picked to win the PL in the preseason (receiving 13 of a possible 14 1st place votes) and had two preseason all-PL players (Keister and Evans). Aside from being assistant coaches before getting the HC job (a trait that alone has no correlation with whether or not an individual will be a successful head coach), SK and BN have next to nothing in common. That is not to say that BN is guaranteed to be a successful, but if he fails, it will be for different reasons than why SK failed.

It seems like we get off to a decent start but then fade from there. Here are the facts, the composite scores by quarter for our 6 PL games
First Quarter (KenPom's box scores record scores at the 10 minute point of each half) HC 103 OPP 105
Second Quarter HC 111 OPP 129
Third Quarter HC 91 OPP 107
Fourth Quarter HC 88 OPP 117
So By Quarter we have gone (2) Off to a decent start, actually leading in some games (18) Outscored by 3 points a game (16) Outscored by just under 3 points a game (29) Outfinished badly by 5 points/game(could be some garbage time points in here)

In looking at just the numbers and not watching the games one might reasonably suggest The team Competes in every game Might not know how to win Mental fatigue and pressure sets in at the end of a game and Team lacks experienced leadership and maturity to finish
Considering the roster
Kids have bought in The team roster hasn’t experienced success Physically not as strong or big inside as the opponents Not experienced senior leadership in years
Considering those possibilities and only looking at numbers and the current roster one could suggest next year could begin the turn around
Competing and buy are natural and embraced They begin to learn what it takes to win The additions add size, strength and depth with people playing the right role If Kyle returns and Conor doesn’t Redshirt this roster will have 4 seniors that are experienced , can contribute and find a way to lead the group

I think what I see in general is that by the 3rd Q our opponent has figured out our offense and improved its defense so that by the 4th Q we are reduced to playing AAUball (or what I prefer to call NBAball), i.e., 4 guys standing around watching the 5th guy attempting kamikazees. Basically, by the 4th Q we stop moving our feet. To me it is so obvious. We do it over and over.

If they just figure out our offense in the 2nd half they didn’t do proper scouting or pre game prep

I think we basically have to evaluate this team as if it’s our first year moving up to D1 from D3. Sad, but that’s pretty much where we are given the current state of the cupboard. No fair assessment of Nelson can happen until at least 2021-22 season.

That was my point - that HC first half success is not due to opponents being unprepared in any way.

"Fatigue makes cowards of us all".....Vince Lombardi Doubtful in this case MPG 34.3 33.3 26.2 26.1 21.4 15.1 Matt) On the other hand, Pridgen, Wade, and Butler have all had multiple 39+ minute games in the last month Pridgen in particular has been racking up the minutes. 36 MPG in conference. If you discount the one game he caught a lot of bench time with foul trouble, he's at 38.6 for the other 5 games. I'm not saying he's tired at the end of games, but he is putting in a lot of minutes

Considering this is a lost season, I keep wondering - is the fact that so few guys are getting minutes a statement that BN is doing whatever he can to win games now or does he have such little confidence on some of the guys on the bench that he believes any time on the floor is not going help their development.

OK. OK. Stop piling on. Will you at least agree...forget why.....that for the last 7 mins or so we lose all mobility, all fluidity so that all we have left is pure kamikazees and high ball screens ending in a kamikazee? Frustrating as hell to watch.

Second team imo extremely unlikely. In the past 20 years, exactly two freshmen have made 1st team or 2nd team All-PL: CJ McCollum and Mike Muscala. No offense to Pridgen, but I don't think he's quite at that level. Also it's very tough for players on bottom tier teams to get votes. It would help Pridgen if HC won some games. Another factor is that most freshmen don't play good defense - which the coaches definitely seem to consider.

Sometimes I think it might be the quality of minutes that causes fatigue. If you're constantly trying to battle back into games that might cause a little more wear and tear. Just a thought.

I believe that there is a significant differences between tiring as a front court player vs a backcourt player. From my long ago playing days, I always preferred playing the backcourt running usually only from top of the key to top of the key, rather than running baseline to baseline as front court players must do.

Yes, think about it--if there are 140 possessions in a game (70 for each team) and you play 28 minutes that is, conveniently 70% of the time or 100 possessions. 100 possessions X an extra 30 feet (baseline to baseline versus top of key to top of key) that is an extra 3,000 feet that the front court guys have to run at near-sprint speed.
