I understand HC's wariness on hiring Pitino....but it would have been fascinating to see how he would have done within the confines of the PL.

I have no doubt Pitino would do quite well in the PL or anywhere else. The question is whether or not he would do well enough playing within the confines of the rules to satisfy himself. And, if not, does he do whatever it takes to get things to the next level?

"Does he do whatever it takes...?" Interesting question, up there with...Is the Pope Catholic? Does a bear crap in the woods? Of course (if the past is any indication) he will do whatever he can get away with to better his record.

Pitino isn't at HC, and never will be, and his actions indirectly set HC MBB back decades. Why he is still being talked about is beyond me.

Interesting to blame Pitino for a decade of incompetence. I think it was Willard who chose his friend over his job and Pitino had nothing to do with hiring a string of lousy coaches. I'm just happy that we're not in a league with him as the MAAC teams will have fun fighting for second place as long as he's there.

I remember a quote from the left-hander in his southern accent-- "Aah can coach." -- Lefty Driesell. Listed as one of the great all-time sports quotes by the Washington Post -- Lefty once used it when he was under fire and the other after winning a big ACC game ( i believe in 1975 over NC State who had a big winning streak going at the time)- I think the score was 98-97
The same can be said of Pitino, he can coach. He might have different editions of the Jimmy's and Joe's, ethically or not, but he will deliver the Xs and Os and is able to teach and develop his players. With that said, you worry about the other lessons he teaches,

The best he's done at a mid-major would be at Iona & BU; in both cases he made the dance and lost in an early round. Nothing bad, by any means; but nothing that Bill Carmody and Ralph Willard didn't accomplish at HC.
It's his work at PC, KY and Louisville that's exceeded that.

Nobody here would give up their right to change jobs when and if they please. Ralph gave a decade of good service to his Alma Mater and a good hire after him could have kept a winning program going.

I just read on the Fairfield Board about two guys with MAAC ties who will be transferring to their 4th college in the fall. Stop the madness!

“One and done” not appropriate. “Four and more “ is more appropriate.

I was kind of thinking if you're going to go to four different colleges, you're attending each of them for one year and then you're done with that school. One and done

I was kind of thinking if you're going to go to four different colleges, you're attending each of them for one year and then you're done with that school. One and done And you get your sheepskin from the last of the four? After having been on that campus for just twenty-five percent of your college career?? Something tells me that said transferor is unlikely to be a "loyal son" of his alma mater. Whatever.................

The trend continues....
After transferring from Stony Brook, Miles Latimer plays one pretty good season at Bucknell and has entered the Transfer Portal.

I fear this is going to be the norm....Have a good season and become a free agent....and it seems with the latest court ruling, schools will be bidding for players now..

Would it be illogical that when these cash bonuses start rolling in, the school starts charging a fee for allowing the student to be on the team that enabled him to earn all of that bonus money. Instead of paying them with a full scholarship worth hundreds of thousands to play, charge them for the ability they gain as a team member to earn huge amounts of cash.

I've been saying for years that college players perhaps not get "scholarships" (after all, for some, there is very little "scholar" in the money they are allotted) but instead, they get paid and if they want to actually get an education, they pay tuition out of their paycheck. Of course, a kid going to Harvard would have a much higher starting salary than a kid going to North Carolina or Louisville because, at minimum, the paycheck has to cover tuition room & board, books and ancillary expenses. So, that'd be the "floor."
Yes, lots of additional details would need to be worked out.

Kids are still entering the men’s hoop portal. Thirteen in the last 13 hours. I thought I read today is the cutoff date but I am not sure if it takes effect today or July 1, 2022.
