Portal now has 1708 2021 Transfers.
The HC exodus in 2020 no longer seems like an anomaly. Oh well!
College Basketball in the 2020’s is not....College Basketball in the 1970’s.
Culture changes in 50 years....No longer to live in the past. Time to adjust.

Kids are still entering the men’s hoop portal. Thirteen in the last 13 hours. I thought I read today is the cutoff date but I am not sure if it takes effect today or July 1, 2022. strikes me as a bold choice for a kid on scholarship. Basketball scholarships are a limited commodity. Openings in July and August are even more limited. Reilly was a an August sign on, but I can't think of another recent Crusader after July 1. Maybe in this crazy environment more schools are sitting on a scholarship going into the summer, but I think most of these 13 are going to be losers in this game of musical chairs

Today is the final day for an athlete to notify the school without having to sit out a year. Starting next year, notification date will be May 1st.

When I was at his old school to supervise a counseling intern, there were so many pictures of TT in the counseling (about 1/3 in his Holy Cross uniform) that it almost looked like a "shrine." Everyone there still knows his story and thinks of Holy Cross in a very positive light.

To my point. It doesn't happen often. Rosters are pretty much set by now. Unless one of these kids is a real catch (which probably means dropping down a level of competition) I have to believe that most of this group of 13 will not have a scholarship for September.

And a very good one. As I may have mentioned previously: A lot of people don't know that Okie was a late-round draft choice.................................an NFL draft choice - by the Dallas Cowboys.

After the Boston Shootout, IIRC. That was a fun event that, over time, AAU supplanted. Probably more fans at one Boston Shootout weekend than attend all AAU games in Greater Boston combined in a season (especially if you only counted the parents of the kids playing once). bleacherreport.com/articles/891337-the-boston-shootout-a-cavalcade-of-stars-one-mans-vision

Another interesting factoid about my classmate Okie--he turned down Princeton and Pete Carril to come to HC.

As did Chris Potter, who also rejected Dean Smith and UNC

Another interesting factoid about my classmate Okie--he turned down Princeton and Pete Carril to come to HC. Which makes the perfect argument against our decision (since reversed) to move to a "need-based" aid model. Potter and O'Connor each had a chance to go to Princeton and have their parents pay some amount of money for the privilege - or go to HC for nothing. How many kids wouldn't do the same thing? If the package is the same at both schools, I don't see us winning a lot of those kids - especially when we're up against H-Y-P.

Next year will be worse when the players (majors) who do not receive what they want from the NIL $$ leave for greener pastures.

Thinking of Bob F. , listening to his commercials and the possibilities with the NLI.
My favorite is “Maurice The Pants Man”. HC athletes in a video with MC Hammer, with “U Can’t Touch This” playing. Definitely would have been a classic, maybe better than the Nestle Crunch commercial with Jim M. and Larry B.

Soon, as we drive down 290, maybe we'll see a photo of Louth on the Rotman's Furniture sign.

We are all aware of the b-ball players who transferred from HC going back to the 70's, and maybe beyond. And they were pretty good - Kevin Stacom(Providence), Bobby Kelly(St. John's) and others. Some transferred to HC - Jim McCaffrey a dynamic force on the court, get scorer; the terrific player from Wake Forest(?) and others. Can anyone name names? (Football might have suffered greater lossesGeorge Conner, Bill Swiacki but then there was the great Gil "the Thrill" finery who transferred to HC.) Baseball, the great Louis Sockalexis transfered to ND. It might be fun to compile an all-time list of Outs & Ins. My knowledge is quite thin. Transfers are part of the game, more so now, than ever. HC has Gerrale Gates a pretty good player who shows great promise, a transfer from NO. The football team has transfers on its current roster.Hopefully, HC will be a landing spot for other fine student-athlete transfers in the near future both in basketball & football. Peace

Peace The Wake Forest transfer was Ed Thurman who I believe was a Parade HS All American from Lynn, MA. For a year or two in the early 80's, HC had a pair of former Parade AA's as their starting backcourt. Thurman and Kevin Greaney from NYC.
