That statement was backwards- he contacted HC and was denied an interview

That is good to hear on both counts.

The NCAA tournament was cancelled this year so having RP would have been wasted.😊

This entire season was in effect a shake down cruise for the Nelson ship. Starting in October, game on, and the boat must be in combat mode as a destroyer not as a sail boat.

Sounds plausible as ours was the only D-1 coaching search open at the time.

If anyone thinks we need hand sanitizer and Clorox bleach these days, double it if Blossom had somehow hired this dirtbag last Summer....

From reliable sources here and elsewhere (I'll nevah tell ), Pitino reached out to the hiring committee and was told it was a non-stahhtah. I understand the thinking of not wanting anything to do with Pitino...but I also think we needed then (and still do) a hire of that sort of magnitude to shake hoop up at HC.

What hire of Pitino’s magnitude was available and would come to HC ?

There is at least one poster who likes to opine that having three players kicked off the team means that HC has no claim on the moral high ground
I disagree with that premise. Hiring Pitino would validate that premise in my opinion.
I agree with the logic behind the PL Big time college athletics are more about athletics and very little about college. I like the concept of true student-athletes. I kind of like the high moral ground knowing that HC is a legitimate college sports team. Back in the 90's I had UMass season tickets in addition to my HC ones. It was fun.So much so that I was able to deal with the fall out of UMass scandal. I'd feel 10 times worse if my alma mater was associated with that kind of scandal.

Wow, if we had a chance at Rick P and we passed! Shows where BB is.
You know this will be his last Rodeo and he admits he should have been fired from Louisville. I would see him being a model citizen at this point.
So let’s rehash, 4 coaches in 11 years, 3-20 plus loss seasons, coming off a complete dumpster fire season this past year. 7 transfers in last 9 months, 4 players thrown off the team in last 4 years!
Rick would have been a saint compared to the all the garbage that has happened at HC.
Yet another sports blunder! Thx PTB

IMHO none of what happened at HC is as bad as any of several of the charges against RP. No blunder there at all. At least HC showed integrity that can't be "purchased" by wins.

Listened to Pitino's interview with Francesa. Iona is getting a good coach. Rick said he wanted to go to a small catholic college. The key point is that it is very hard to recruit right now with the coronavirus outbreak and they need seven players. With his connections across the country and globally, he is going to be able to bring in great talent. Iona has been a very good mid major and I think it will continue. I do hope we play them next year. But still wish we at least interviewed him.

Iona has a tradition of reloading with juco's, transfers, academic rejects, and problem cases. Pitinio will be a perfect fit. HC did the right thing refusing to talk to him.

Thx PTB We could have had Pitino last year, we could have had Kevin Willard 5 years ago, and we could have had Ralph Willard back after the Kearney debacle. Three huge missed opportunities. “Leadership” (from incompetent presidents to incompetent ADs) at HC has done an atrocious job with this program.

Basketball is just not that important to HC today....whether it should or shouldn't be, is a different discussion. The Patriot League is a low-major D1 league....great kids and still good hoop but it is a far cry from the level we were playing in before the Big East was formed. HC as an institution has tied itself to the PL for all sports, which has been beneficial for the school in general, but it will never allow for HC basketball to be relevant in a regional or national basis evah again. And yes, I know this is about the 1,874 time I've posted something similar to this.

There is an issue that one of the tools that makes him a good coach is cheating to the point that he vacated a national title. If a school has no issue with cheating to win, fine. Iona made a great hire. I believe that Pitino is a very good coach even without using that tool. For schools that have an issue with cheating to win, there has to be some level of concern that, if the program progress is not fast enough for Pitino, he will cheat again. Pitino might be concerned about clearing his legacy and have good intentions about running a clean program. When the going gets tough, who knows?

The expectations at Iona have to be lower than they were at UK and U of L. So, I don't think Rick will have to cheat in order to move the program forward dramatically. He has no worries about academics, i.e. he won't have to worry much about players qualifying. He won't be able to recruit UK/U of L caliber players but he'll certainly dramatically improve the level of the recruits and his strategizing, player development, and in-game coaching will be force multipliers. I'll bet he will be very, very successful

Basketball is just not that important to HC today.... I'm not so sure about that. HC would not have fired Sean Kearney after one season and eaten all of that money and would not have hired Milan Brown and Bill Carmody and paid them $300K+ / season if basketball wasn't important. Fr. McF didn't bring RW back to HC because he felt / knew that Willard had more influence than him at HC -- the men's basketball coach being more powerful than the president of the college would lead me to believe that basketball is important.

During one of the Debates Mayor Pete responded to Senator Warren: "Don't issue a purity test you can't pass yourself."
I could have resolved the Pitino moral dilemma in my mind, but HC made it's choice and RP is not walking through that door.

Your sarcasm is noted. Would you really want the type of "attention" that RP has brought to other schools? I feel you might be in the minority. Is saying HC is "sinless" (which was not said by anyone else that I have seen) supposed to be some weak form of insult?
