Holy Cross is a five point favorite this week against the Bison with a 63% chance for the win (according to Massey).

In their last game, a 3OT loss to 2-1 VMI, Bucknell showed a running game and the ability to curtail VMI's running game. However, they were vulnerable to the VMI passing game, as the cadets got 285 yards, completing 34 of 52 passes.
Bucknell has averaged about 10 rushing yards a game more than their opponents (153 - 143). The opponents have an edge in yards passing per game (263-209). The overall starts are very close and more what you might expect to see from a .500 team (not one with a 1-3 record). The Bison have a good runner in Joey DeFloria. He was held to 39 yards by VMI, but is still averaging over 100 yards a game for the season. Expect HC to see him carrying the ball often this week. Their QB is Matt Muh. Much is a 6'4" 220 pound junior. He has started since the second game his year and is averaging almost 200 yards passing (595 yards in 3 games). He had 1 yard rushing against Duquesne, 0 against Cornell, and minus 23 yards against VMI (a run for your life game?). He does not seem to be a threat to run with the ball unless forced to do so.

It looks like there's a couple of freshmen on the O-line two-deep now.

Nick Piker update?
Bucknell shouldn't scare us -- if we show up to play, this game should be ours. Sounds like they give up a lot of yards in the air and Geoff Wade is just that much more comfortable with a win already under his belt. HC 31 Bucknell 20.

Bucknell secondary is a wreck due to injuries, having lost two CB's who started the past two years plus a safety who also started the past two years. Aldo lost an All-PL DT to a knee injury. 2. DeFloria was the starter because CJ Williams, one of only four RBs in PL history to make All-PL as a frosh and a sophomorewas unable to play this fall due to several concussions. However DeFloria went out in the second quarter last game with a concussion of his own. Team was basically down to one RB in the second half last week. Top four from the spring depth chart all hurt. 3. Muh has been the starter since Game 3 because three-year starter CJ Nitti suffered an ankle injury early in the second game. He might be back this week. 4. For the past two weeks, Bucknell has had a kicking game worse than many high schools, which is why they lost to VMI in three OTs. MIssed two short FGs, had bad kick offs, and punted poorly. Top two kickers both out with injuries. Don't know who will kick this week.

So, what you're saying 137 is HC by three scores?

bison137,
Thanks for the update. I thought only HC and Lafayette were beset with injuries. I guess it could always be worse. The litany of injuries your guys have to deal with is a lot to overcome. I hope those with concussions do not suffer any long-term damage.

Gilmore said Pujals would be out "a few weeks, maybe longer". Bell was not mentioned, but I doubt that Gilmore would switch qbs if he were available (unless things went south during the game).

Is a medical redshirt a realistic possibility for PP? If Wade continues to develop over the next two games, would HC want to play him for the balance of the season and then replace him next year? I am not sure that would happen.

this week's game notes include the 2-deep and it shows wade as the starter and bell as the backup - that's probably the case
the lafayette announcers did mention that pujals would be eligible for a medical redshirt should his injury keep him out for an extended period. i doubt that would happen esp with the season finale at yankee stadium - he deserves to start that game if he is sound.

PP did get injured early enough in the season where he would be eligible for a medical redshirt as long as he demonstrated that the injury kept him physically unable to play for the remainder of the year.
My guess is that Wade starts the next two and that Pujals comes back for the Lehigh game IF he's very close to 100% healthy. Best case scenario for us is that GW holds the fort until PP is ready to come back and lead us to a great finish to the PL season. Then Wade will become "the guy" for 2017 and 2018. Blaise is a great insurance option but the way Wade looked against Lafayette, I'd rather him be catching long balls.

I just want to make sure we have an experienced QB for Sept 8, 2018....the date of the BC game.

Did not realize Blaise had lined up at wideout as much as he has. We certainly want someone ready to represent the Cross at the Heights in 2018.

There's a difference between being NCAA eligible and being able to actually pull it off. As a senior it might be a little tricky to pull off a double major at this point in his academic career. I suppose he could take the spring semester off and finish a normal academic path next Spring. It's a little easier if you medical redshirt as a sophomore and have time to set up your curriculum for a double major. This also assumes that he wants to come back and play next year instead of graduating with his class and moving on to the next step of his life

As we know he might also take his year of eligibility to go elsewhere for a start on a Master's Degree. If he does come back for the last few games, all of this may be moot. IMHO, we'll know more after the Harvard game.

getting back to the game... we'll likely be underdogs in the following 3 games, so this one is another in the 'must' category. with the students on fall break starting this afternoon, we can expect a sparse crowd this week (and maybe next also even though it's vs. harvard). oh wait - what am i talking about?, the students don't go to games anymore. i almost forgot

Even if every student at Holy Cross attended we'd still need to fill the roughly 22,000 remaining seats.
