Bobby Young puts the Crusaders up, 1-0, about five minutes in.
A small contingent of cut-outs in attendance, including Dr. Fauci.

HC, 1-0, at the end of the first period. Action was mostly in the LIU end (HC, 32-12, on shots), but the Shark defense was impressive, particularly for a team playing its first collegiate hockey match.

LIU ties it up, 1-1, seven minutes into the second period. Came just after Holy Cross controlled the puck in the offensive zone for three minutes, but came up empty.
LIU goalie is a grad transfer from Mercyhurst and was drafted by Anaheim - he's looked tough.

LIU scored the winning goal, after HC dominated play in OT. Sadly, this seems familiar.

Well, we’re a part of hockey history! Little LIU announces an immediate D.1 program 8 months ago in the middle of a pandemic and they win their first game, on the road to boot - terrible distinction

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We outplayed them so much! Things never change Death, Taxes and Holy Cross's worst power play in D1 With 39 saves and staving off 5 power plays, their goalie deserves at least some credit As was mentioned, he was drafted by Anaheim

LIU used to be an NYC hoops powerhouse before the scandals of the early 60s Until rather recently nickname was the Blackbirds Now in OT LIU-Brooklyn won the NIT in 1939 and 1941 and the program was suspended in 1951-1957 after the CCNY scandal. This LIU is combination of LIU-Brooklyn and LIU-Post which combined in the summer of 2019.

Well, we’re a part of hockey history! Little LIU announces an immediate D.1 program 8 months ago in the middle of a pandemic and they win their first game, on the road to boot - terrible distinction 10 of the players were on Division 1 teams last season (four in Hockey East, two are the other goalies that did not play) and they have a D-3 transfer from UMass-Boston (not a bad D-3 team at all).

Thanks, BFoley Had the issue of a point shaving scandal correct, but the decade wrong. The 60s scandal involved St. Joe’s, Seton Hall et al.

As was mentioned, he was drafted by Anaheim Ironically, Metcalf was terrible in the two Mercyhurst games last year, which HC won, 4-0 and 7-2. In the latter game, he was pulled after giving up three goals in the first period.

NYU was involved in both the 50s and 60s scandals , LIU and CCNY the 50s.

When I read that this was the first game in the history of LIU's hockey program and that they were loaded with freshmen I figured HC would win along the lines of 10-1. This feels similar, but worse, than the basketball team losing to UMass-Boston. Of course, the shot differential might suggest this was a one-off, a goalie standing on his head to get a win. We'll know more Sunday, but red flags are up.
