Ugh! I have to agree that games like this are hard to watch.

back to 2021 - we're playing Merrimack on the road in the rain - watched the 1st inning (that's all I can take) we scored an unearned run in the top of the inning our PL rookie of the week, Alex Bryant was our starter - he walked 5, hit a batter, there were two sac flies - he lasted 2/3 of an inning - down 3-1 after one Why would Bryant pitch 2 (3 ?) days after he pitched twice over the weekend .? And 2 days before he will be needed on Saturday ? in a meaningless game tonight ?

Things settled down a bit - a loss by 7-5 score Good question about using Bryant - no doubt he’ll be needed this weekend

I haven’t really been playing close attention but I assume the top 2 in each division make the playoffs. HC and Lafayette are fighting for the second spot in their division. HC is 8-12 while Lafayette is 10-12. HC draws Lehigh which is in first in the South Division. Laf draws Bucknell which is in last in the South Division. Right now, our odds of making the playoffs do not look good. However, crazier things have happened in the last 14 months.

No, it’s not the top 2 in each division - it’s the top 4 winning pct regardless of division - see the attachment I posted with details from the league

I would guess we have to sweep Lehigh to make the playoffs?

Hey, guys, none of our pitchers can get anyone out. Not going anywhere, this isn't slow pitch softball. In fact, we'd be hard pressed to win in that sport as walks kill you there too.

Well deserved, he's a good one and also has a good bat I saw him pick off a runner on 2nd base this season which doesn't happen often

With Lehigh's split and Army's loss to Navy, the Mountain Hawks (17-10 PL record) are the no.1 seed in the league tourney that starts on Saturday - they will host Navy In the other semi series, Lafayette is at AWP

The two amazing stories of the spring continued this weekend - Fairfield finished the regular season 32-1 and Northeastern (30-8 overall) extended the longest winning streak in the country to 20, before losing to Delaware yesterday

Fairfield is amazing. SHU next door hired Bobby Valentine as AD but is only 20-22, although still alive. The Pioneers did not play the Stags even though this is the travel cautious Covid season.

Reading the book "Baseball's First Indian" The Story of Penobscot Legend Louis Sockalexis by Ed Rice
What a ball payer he was in reading the chapter about him at Holy Cross.
"Worcester went mad about him and immense crowds flocked to the little school on Mount St James to see him."
Author Luke Salisbury said "College baseball was more important in the 1890's then in this century. Colleges recruited baseball players the way they do football players. Holy Cross and Brown were the best teams."
In a game against Brown Sockalexis hit a home run that went through a window of the Brown University Baptist Chapel. He also stole 6 bases in that game.
John Parpal of the Holy Cross Purple said "Holy Cross was second to none in baseball. Crowds flocked to see Sockalexis play."
Wish the school would do something to honor him. I don't know what.
He is the first Native American ball player to ever play in the MLB. I know that he is in the HC Athletic Hall of Fame.

I would like to see either a monument or a series of signs or plaques at the entrance to HIP that recognize Lou Sockalexis, Jack Barry, Ted Williams and Babe Ruth playing at Fitton, and the1952 National Championship team, with the names of all team members engraved in recognition of their accomplishments. It should be prominently displayed so that all who enter will be aware of the legacy of Holy Cross baseball. Maybe Include in the tributes would include the quotation from The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway, Chapter 11, to indicate Holy Cross Baseball reference in American Literature. sabrina117english.blogspot.com/2011/10/sun-also-rises-allusions.htmlairossignol.wordpress.com/2011/10/09/the-sun-also-rises-allusions-from-chapters-11-and-12/Holy Cross Due to the subsequent reference to Fordham, it can be assumed that Bill is talking of the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. It is the oldest Catholic college in the country and would probably have had a very high reputation. The fact that the College of the Holy Cross was a Catholic college is very important. As it is associated with both Mencken and Bryan, we can deduce from this that Bill’s opinion of Catholics is that they have a rigid system which they are unwilling to change, and prove to be very critical of everything which does not meet their approval. “Holy Cross, College of the.” Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia. AWP is so tough in these situations - I think this is their 3rd straight trip to the NCAA's - after Lehigh evened up the series earlier today 3-1, No. 2 seed Army cruised in the deciding game 6-1
