Regarding the palette of the uniforms, the darker uniforms visually show less flaws, dirt and wrinkles than the lighter uniforms. The darker color uniforms are easier to maintain and clean in a laundry.
For a number of years, I was involved in an organization that sponsored a national PGA event that was televised by CBS. Several months before the tournament, there would be a fashion reveal of the various uniforms for the tournament committees. For a number of years, green and gold were the theme colors of the tournament, however, one year, white polyester pants were chosen for the various tournament committee staff, both male and female, with the women having a choice or either pants or culottes.
On day one, it was a brilliant sunny day in August, everyone looked sharp for the pro am. Then on day three, the weather changed, torrential downpours occurred, and the golf course parking lots and areas off the greens became a muddy pit. There was hay placed everywhere to soak up the water and the mud.
By Saturday and Sunday, everyone that wore white pants had mud splotches up pass their knees, that no matter how much bleach was used still showed. Needless to say, the days of looking sharp, descended into a disheveled band of people, that no longer had crisp looking uniforms on display when photographed or televised. The group looked awful when the last official pictures were taken, and when shown on national television on Sunday afternoon. That was the last year that white pants were part of the official uniform for the tournament.
Regarding HC uniforms, seeing a 300 pound lineman in white stretch pants, is not a good visual. Looking at teams that have Purple as their primary color, most have adapted a secondary color other than white. Either Gold, Black or Gray.
Using darker colors is a benefit to the staff that has to maintain uniforms that have a life expectancy of three seasons. So give them a break. Unless you want to help them laundering to get out the dirt, and other biological matter that is easily seen, especially on white pants or white shorts or skirts.

Excuses, my friend. Pretty sure my contributions over the years will cover the “extra” laundry bill.
If not, we can get a “go fund me” for those who think it worth the extra cleaning expense.
BTW, do you REALLY think that’s the reason for the black? Sounds too practical for anything Holy Cross would do.
Saving money didn’t stop them from redesigning the Purple Knight pins despite having enough to cover through the Class of 1974. You know, to get rid of the actual representation of a Knight/Crusader. (45, couldn’t help it😉)

White Spandex and Lycra stretch pants on a Big Ugly 300 lb lineman playing football is not a visual that one wants to see. Rather they wear black, so I do not see, what I do not want to see. 🤣.
The white pants of yesteryear, 30+ years ago, were thicker and heavier made of natural materials, cotton and blend, that did not show every detail. Also, those pants did a better job of covering their overhanging guts. Again, not a pretty sight 🥴.
Sorry guys, I vote for either purple, dark gray, dark silver or black pants or uniforms. They are easier to maintain long term over the three year uniform lifecycle before replacement.
White uniforms, especially pants or bottoms for teams that are played outdoors are an absolute pain to keep clean, and fresh looking. By year three, for teams that have heavy use and extreme contact in play, football, baseball, softball, basketball and ice hockey the uniforms, have lost their dazzle and usually stretched way out of shape with pills and runs throughout the material. The use of synthetic materials look good initially, but they deteriorate rapidly after several seasons of heavy contact play. The very high profile teams, with lucrative contracts, with manufacturers, completely replace their uniforms on a annual or biannual basis.
Sorry 70, I understand your yearnings for nostalgia, in team visage and tradition. However, the kids in today’s uniforms see it differently. The exception maybe is Penn State. Having spent time in Eugene OR, and visiting the complex at Autzen Stadium, I enjoy watching the Ducks parade of new combinations of uniform colors for each game. Their fans do too.

I don't give a rat's ass about the color of the team's sweaters. I care about wins.

I totally agree, that as an adult, that wins are what I really care about with our teams. However to get the wins, we need to recruit the most talented athletes, who are 18 years old, that are enamored by the glitz and bells and whistles that a program provides. Uniforms are part of the bread and circus of college sports that is used in the recruitment of these players. “Look Sharp, Feel Sharp, Be Sharp” remember that use to be called in advertising “a jingle”, now it is called sound branding...... Uniforms are essential to visual branding for a team. “Looking Sharp” is essential in recruiting athletes and students. Always desire Holy Cross to display being cutting edge, not mired in the past through inertia. legendsinadvertising.blogspot.com/2014/06/gillette-look-sharp-feel-sharp-be-sharp.htmlYou better look at the original video in the link above. “Chartbuster: Composed by Mahlon Merrick (of The Jack Benny Show fame), the Look Sharp march was first aired during the 1952 World Series (of Baseball, where Gillette was the *coughs* official sponsor) match played between the Dodgers and the Yankees. Consequently, 'The Look Sharp March' turned out to be the most played march at high school and college football game half-time shows in the USA for almost two decades.” Maybe be we can get the band to play the “Look Sharp” March as a rally song during the game. As always, Chu Chu Rah, Rah is a celebration song after achievement. Instead of Blue, “Our Purple Blades need to be Sharp”. m.facebook.com/AmericanPackageMuseum/videos/1587445207963049/?refsrc=https%3A%2F%2Fm.facebook.com%2Fstory.php&_rdr

Send your comments regarding green lighting uniform design to Coach Katie LaChapelle at Holy Cross who works with the Adidas design team in Portland Oregon. For Adidas, send a note to Dan Near, who is head of Adidas Hockey and Lacrosse. Matty Merrill is the Design Director for Adidas Hockey. The Senior Designer on the team at Adidas is Eric Bodamer. www.nsga.org/membership/hockey-dealers-association-hda/latest-news/adidas-appoints-new-head-of-hockey-north-america/ Holy Cross uniforms follow the Adidas custom design configuration. Take a look at the link below. uniforms.adicustom.com/ice-hockey/#!/jersey In the online site, the following is noted: “Please be aware that adidas Custom is transitioning colors to the new adidas Team Color palette. If you have any questions about colors, please contact your Team Account Specialist.” If you don’t like the palette and the unis.....call Matty. Matty was in the Design Program at Stanford, a few years ahead of my daughter. I believe they had the same academic adviser. However, I can’t guarantee he will give you a favorable reply. 😂🤣

Those black and purple uniforms are terrible. Who greenlit those? . They rival the basketball all black unis. Which always remind me of a nightmare game at Maryland circa 2008. Purple shirts and black pants would work better than this combo. Most teams the dark jerseys are the same or lighter than the dark pants; at least I can't think of a team where black shirts are not matched w/black pants.

Adidas pays for all HC unis. HC is no position whatsoever to look a gift horse in the mouth. Be more concerned with the play of the teams than what they wear.

I was commenting tongue in cheek regarding contacting Dan and Matty at Adidas regarding changes to the uniform. The same is true for all other HC sports uniforms and athletic apparel. Adidas pays to supply the uniforms to Holy Cross, that follow the design template established by Matty Merril and his team. Adidas also pays a sponsorship fee to HC for wearing Adidas uniforms and signage. So for all the curmudgeons who think they can complain to HC about changing the uniform design.....guess what....that ship sailed along time ago. Now for for our next topic.....When is Holy Cross joining the Big East. 🤣

Thanks for getting what apparently few do Crucis. Thanks ACTP. Forbes published a nice article regarding Adidas Hockey plans: www.forbes.com/sites/timnewcomb/2018/11/28/the-creation-of-adidas-hockey-forging-a-new-way-to-relate-to-consumers-nhl/?sh=1c50eeb61858One just have have to ask the questions to the people responsible and understand how sports marketing, design, merchandising and sponsorship works currently for D1 programs. Fairly easy concepts taught in a business program. I want HC to follow and adapt to the old Gillette sound brand jingle....... “Look Sharp, Fell Sharp, Be Sharp” It is time to adapt to the cutting edge, not be mired in the past. Being associated with Adidas Hockey is a Big Win for Holy Cross Hockey. Now we have to consistently put “The Biscuit in the Basket”.

And to expound on this further, about 4 yrs ago HC was heavily engaged with UA (based on NP's relationship with that brand from when he was at UMD), and Adidas stepped up huge to box UA out.

I was aware of some of the details. The deal with Adidas was better than the offers from UA or Nike when the sponsorship was being negotiated. NP was responsible for the visually interesting uniforms sported by UMD. I enjoyed teasing him and asking if we could get a similar scheme of uniforms for HC. Can you imagine the reaction by the faithful? 😂 It would have been a bigger outcry than not joining the Big East and joining the Patriot League. I hope that all can see some humor in this comment.

The picture below is from last January when they appeared in the photo wearing gray jerseys with purple pants. Both the Men and Women have worn black jerseys for the away games this year. No big deal..... just the uniform kit for this abbreviated season.

Anyone remember the year that the Holy Cross men wore the Hockey long pants for one year before they were banned. Had to be in the early 1980’s. The full length long pants were banned by the NHL after the 1982-1983 season. The pants were called Cooperalls. The pants design received considerable criticism due to safety and the design being too warm. I could not find a picture of the HC Uniforms, but I did find a picture and article about PC wearing the full length hockey pants. www.rihhof.com/remembering-when-the-friars-wore-cooperalls/

But, getting back to BC football unis, it's just one example of their general shiiiitiness, look at the photo.
