Not sure. some may have been, but the vax is supposed to lessen the severity of the infection among those who have the antibodies or have been vaccinated. At least three of them are breakthrough cases....Aaron Judge is one of the others as I am writing this that their status isn't known. He played in the ASG this week so could he have spread it throughout the league as a superspreader?

I have heard that as well. There was concern that he escorted Hank Aaron's wife onto the field at the game.

If the vaccine is known to keep people from getting seriously sick in most instances, but cannot absolutely prevent infection, why are players still being tested? We know they may/could still become COVID-positive. We know they likely won't get sick. Most of the players in this outbreak are showing no symptoms. So, why can't they play baseball?

1- Are any of those positive tests from unvaccinated players ? 2- Could those minimally sick vaccinated players who are tested positively give the virus to those unvaccinated teammates / staff who could get seriously ill/ die ?

It is to prevent outbreaks that could kill the unvaccinated. As a society we are trying to not leave the unvaccinated behind as best we can despite philosophical differences.

Okay... then there's no incentive for a vaccinated person who is highly unlikely to get seriously ill/die from COVID (like a professional athlete) to get the vaccine, if they will still be punished (prevented from playing, locked down, etc.) to protect the un-vaccinated. Mind you, at least among these athletes, the un-vaccinated are those who have flat out refused to get the shot, since it's been made available to them early and often.
This is the question for society at large. If there's little risk to individual life and limb, but a positive COVID test will still result in shutting everything down, then we'll never be back to normal until the virus is eradicated. The time to eradicate it was at the onset; shut the US down for 4 months, strict quarantines, with the government guaranteeing you 80% of your salary in the interim rather than the PPP nonsense. Instead, COVID is everywhere, with as many variants as I have weeds in my backyard... we should never expect an end.

I see every incentive for an unvaccinated person to get vaccinated. Even those unlikely to get seriously ill or die from a Covid infection are still even more unlikely to get seriously ill or die from the vaccine, and when you add all the other Societal benefits of reducing the number of hosts for the virus to spread to and mutate further, I see vaccination as a no brainer I understand not everyone agrees.

Despite both of his parents getting bad cases of Covid, I had a hunch Tom Brady was unvaccinated. However, now he is offering a chance at an autographed football to people who get vaccinated. That indicates he got a jab even though he won't even let the chemicals in sunscreen touch his skin. Apparently there are no germs in tequila.

Sox/Yanks game last night was a disgrace. Game should have ended after 5 innings at most (with the score tied). Probably sooner than that and would have either been suspended or no contest.
And at the beginning of the game they held it up in anticipation of a downpour, as it turns out, they could have played an additional two or three innings. In other words, a rain delay w/no rain nor lightning.

3 of the 4 are playing sub .500 teams. The Yankees play Tampa which is more interested in being ready for play-offs. After dropping 2 out of 3 to the 100+ loss Orioles, the Red Sox have no business in the discussion. Either way I don't think anything will be decided going into Sunday. Those teams still fighting on Sunday will likely need their best pitcher available for that day and maybe even an extra tie breaking game, while the Yankees set up their rotation for their best pitcher in the wild card game. Yankees have far and away the best chance of heading to Tampa for the ALDS

They’re on a nice run but I will not be counting any of my chickens until they hatch. I do like the idea of the Yankees earning the first wild card and then having a three way tie for the second spot.

Not sure if the Universe is ready to return to its proper alignment with a 28th Yankees World Series championship. HA!!! This year it might be a mountain too high for the Yanks. There is some positive buzz surrounding Matt Blake. Evidently, he is doing quite well.

Some of their pitching depth down the stretch came out of nowhere; young guys, mostly; who got acclimated to the big leagues rather quickly. Always better, even with a massive payroll; if you develop players rather than buy them.

I remember that game like it was yesterday. It was on a Monday, which was a holiday or maybe just a day off for me. I had a foliage walk at Quabbin Reservoir planned but when the playoff got scheduled we went to a restaurant to watch the game instead. When Captain Carl popped up to end the game, I died right along with him.

It was Rosh Hashonah; the reason I know that is that I switched teaching jobs that summer and went from a system that observed Jewish holidays to one that did not. Given I had just started at that school, I wasn't about to call in sick or anything like that...and I had access to tickets, too!
Even worse than that, I could have been home when the game started; but there was a department meeting scheduled for that day and our boss insisted on having it. IIRC he kept it short, but it was still 30 torturous minutes and I didn't get in front of a TV until the 4th or 5th inning.

Who wants to remember 43 years ago? That is being lugubrious on steroids. Sox have won many series since then; no reason to look backwards.

Red Sox up 3-1 in the top of the sixth, but Yankees have hit a Homer and a single and we have a pitching change. Eovaldi was lights out and lost it suddenly. Surprised at the number of Yankee fans cheering. They were probably able to get tickets on the secondary market. Last night it seemed there were more Raider fans in LA than Charger fans.

Seems like there's a lot more kids there than would be there for a normal post season game.

You know it's post season play when the third base coaches are in the spotlight.
