Jeff vanGundy left Yale for Nazareth I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead I just need some place where I can lay my head "Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?" He just grinned and shook my hand, "no" was all he said Bonus points to anyone who can explain what this song means.

Best of luck to Joey. I don’t consider his transfer as being anywhere near comparable to the ship-jumpers of the past few years. I'm curious as to why you call the other guys "ship-jumpers" when none were recruited by Nelson? it is very common for guys to leave a school after a coaching change especially when they were blindsided in June??

Others differ in viewpoint, but I don't begrudge anyone their choice of college at any point in their educational journey. I place the major responsibility for selecting players who fit the college and keeping the experience positive on the two highest compensated positions of head coach and Athletic Director.

Riley & all those who skipped out the past few years are prime example's that Bball players chose HC for the free ride not for the Education. I don't think the kid that went to Johns Hopkins and the kid that went to Union did themselves any disservice academically. Hopefully Joey's in that same category when all is said and done. OTOH, the guy who ended up at a community college? Fwiw, looks like Ciaran Sandy will be leaving Miami Dade CC. With four years of eligibility still, he's gotten recent offers from Northeastern State (OK) and Christian Brothers University (TN), both D2 programs.

What does it matter.
Only people it should matter to are the ones who would have to scratch his tuition check, and that isn't you.

I have trouble seeing Reilly playing a lot of minutes at a D1 school but I’ll be rooting for him to prove me wrong.

Sacred Heart has been a regular opponent in recent normal years. There's a decent chance Joey will be returning to the Hart center as an opponent.
I know Caleb Green was back in town in street clothes at the end of the Fairfield bench. I don't remember the last time an HC transfer returned to Worcester in an opponent's uniform. Off the top of my head I'd guess Doug McCrory with Hartford

SHU athletics may decline for a while as Bobby Valentine will be occupied campaigning to become mayor of Stamford.

Based on his managerial skills with the Boston Red Sox, Sacred Heart might do better if he isn't paying attention

Going back further, we did not play St.John’s when Bobby Kelly played there. That transfer and Kevin Stacom were the most damaging in the last 60+ years. Kelly was the perfect partner to RP Jr. (For those two seasons they formed one of HC’s best backcourts, right up there with Blaney-Shea and Cooz-Laska) Chris Mullin would probably agree. SJU finished #3 in the nation in ‘83. As good a passer as Mullin was, Kelly led the team in assists the two seasons he played.

Nazareth, PA where they make Martin Guitars, which Robbie Robertson was musing on while writing "The Weight". The Last Waltz is the definitive Band experience but for those looking to dig deeper, We Were Brothers is a Robertson and Martin Scorsese produced doc that came out last year and has some excellent archival footage and stories, albeit from Robertson's perspective. The anecdote on writing "The Weight" was in WWB.

This is just an opinion
I am not sure he would have left HC for another WO position unless he was terribly unhappy with the coach, team, or the school.
Actually, I believe he is a good 12-13 player on a roster. Tough, competitive, and a decent player to have in practice. Most teams need a player or two like him on the roster. So even if he is a 4th or 5th combo guard with only mop-up time in his future, he seems worthy of a scholarship. The biggest problem he faced in having this role at HC was failing to deliver when he had playing time as a freshman, and the imbalance on the roster, by class and position.

I think there’s still the unknown about the impact of his Dad being a Wesleyan employee on what his tuition might be at HC, SHU or another college.

Understood, my point was a roster needs to be balanced and you need players that want to play, but willing to give of themselves to make a team better, even when that means little or no playing time.

This is a good point. You can argue that it takes a special person to come out of high school as a highly acclaimed athlete, perhaps even getting a college scholarship, and then be willing to make the heavy commitment it takes to play D1 sports after realizing that there will be little or no playing time.

With the portal and players leaving for multiple reasons, few if any coaches can afford to give a 12th or 13th scholarship to a practice player That is what walkons are for

I'm checking out WWB as soon as I can.
