Looks like it's going to be one of those nights. Buckle up! Rather than making fun of hc87, why not share your thoughts on TG? You were certainly one of the most vocal critics of MB. Are you now ready for us to move on in football as well or should we give it some more time because we won a league title 7 years ago?

But, it's clearly time for a new direction here. What about Mike Sanford? He's a young guy at ND, brilliant offensive mind...may have his sights set on something bigger than HC.

We are still experiencing the effects of the PL being the last non-Ivy's in the northeast to have scholarships. It completely stalled the momentum and roster-building that TG had created in his first few years.
I am also becoming more and more convinced that we may need an overhaul to the strength and conditioning program. Between the injuries and every team we play against in the league having stronger guys than us at all positions other than offensive line. I do not believe that we are just recruiting smaller guys across the board.

You'll be better off if you stop trying to re-create the past. It's gone. Gone forever. However, if you insist, ask that a future President appoint justices willing to overturn NCAA v. Board of Regents. That decision ended the past that you knew, and which you are trying so hard to resurrect. www.oyez.org/cases/1983/83-271

I do not believe that we are just recruiting smaller guys across the board. If anything is NOT the problem, it is coach Jeff Oliver. I do think it's a matter of recruiting and a matter of X's and O's. Everyone has injuries - the difference is that we don't have the depth that the top teams in the league do and when our 1's are out, we are beyond helpless against top competition at our level.

Jeff Olivier has been at Holy Cross for 20 years, I believe. We have a long history of players getting injured in what seems to be greater frequency than our PL opponents. No doubt, injuries happen, especially in football. In basketball, the men and women were plagued with injuries. RW thought it was the Hart floor and replaced it. The injuries continued unabated.
Our football team seems to always start out strong and fatigue quicker and deeper than our opponents. Just a perception. Not condemning Jeff but he shouldn't get a free pass either. He is a factor in all sports.
I am not saying with certainty that the strength and conditioning coach is the problem, but he may be a contributing cause and certainly needs to be looked at as a possible cause of our lack of success.
Today, no doubt, we missed Geoff Wade and Peter Pujals even more. And, did I mention, it'd be nice to have an RB that could run through some defenders when we needed 2-3 yards? Lehigh has them.
Finally, we really need to not play some DBs that not only can't cover but can't or won't tackle.

Despite being a club athlete, Ollie and the other coaches were quite good to me and a few other club hockey guys. Gave us workout tips and routines when they didn't have to. Nonetheless, the 2nd half fatigue and injuries cannot be ignored. I do not think it is Ollie's problem, but possibly is a flaw in the system or the amount of coaches dedicated to the football program. Holy Cross should have 2-3 dedicated football strength coaches (NSCA accredited). Recruiting is still a problem despite schollies.

Why we can't recruit better is an utter mystery to me.....we should get most of the best kids (if academically on par) in New England not going to BC (admittedly losing a few to the Ivies), many of the kids from Catholic high schools in Penn, Ohio, Illinois as well as the NY/NJ area....it's not brain surgery.....I know it's not 1986 anymore, but we should be a bettah draw for high school football kids than we seem to be right now.

In my honest opinion it is definitely time for a change! CLEAN HOUSE! Go find a staff that can recruit, get the best out of them and win!
Without going into many details, but I'll offer a few...
1.) we don't know how to tackle 2.) we don't defend the pass 3.) clock management is poor at best 4.) we don't have punishing running backs 5.) too many assistant coaching changes over the years... WHY??? 6.) losing record etc., etc.,
Time for a change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's not 1986 anymore. I think you answered your own question. The thing is....HC was basically pretty bad in football for most of the 1970s....we improved with better coaching/culture in the 1980s....it can be done again imo

Did the 1st and 2nd string Lehigh running backs (both Soph's) look like they do now when they arrived on campus? I honestly don't know, but I doubt it. Without any understanding of the strength & conditioning program at HC and how it compares to other schools, I just can't help but notice that the guys at all the other PL schools look like they are in considerably better condition (strength, speed, stamina) than us. We certainly have other serious problems, but this issue has really started popping to my eyes as PL rosters have gone back to scholarship players.

Bragalone gained over 1000 yards as a frosh last year, built basically the same as this season.

I find it hard to believe that we would be so deficient in strength&conditioning vis a vis the other PL or FCS programs....it comes down to coaching imo....kids don't want to come to HC and play for Gilmore and those that do, lose their enthusiasm in doing so after a year or two.....a change is sorely needed.

Obviously, no one can defend or argue for Gilmore after losing 46-14 to Lehigh at home....it really isn't personal...he just isn't the right guy for HC football in 2016 imo....we need a "new guy"....who that it is, I have no idea...but if HC is serious about having a competitive football program, a lot of changes are needed.

Actually Brisker and Bragalone did come in as speedy power backs. Brags was 205 now at 215. Micco same weight .Caveat he was a champion power lifter in Georgia. Coen has expanded thd S & C program and staff. All athletes at LU get a specific tailored program for their sport. It is a year round monitored program. It has cut down our injuries and improved strength and more importantly IMO stamina.
