It’s a shame that the Providence College Baseball team does not have a real stadium to use. Oh!, I forgot Providence College no longer sponsors Baseball.....America’s pastime. When was the last time Holy Cross played in a Final Four in any sport??? Seems like it worked out pretty well for Providence with multiple teams winning a national championship in the last ten years. Why do you bother to post here - on a Holy Cross message board, when all you do is bash the school and the decisions it makes? Still pissed you had to walk a hundred yards to use the restroom at the Lax field? And shouldn't you have a HS JV tennis match to take pictures of or something better to do?

Why bash PC on a HC message board?? Jealous? There is no reason to bring up them dropping baseball. They have had more guys play in the Majors in the last 25 years (Worcester/Auburn's Keith Reed and John McDonald) than Holy Cross in the last 50 years Mike Pazik is the last and his final game was in 1971.

Lou Merloni from PC is another one. I don't see why PC doesn't have a fundraising campaign to bring back baseball. What did they do with their diamond, use it for a club team?
If there was a baseball only New England League, teams like PC wouldn't have to fly all over the country to play baseball in the Big East (only to have some games rained out) and HC wouldn't have to travel to Lewisburg or Annapolis.

They built a track facility on the site which as they had two olympians this year and helped win a national championship for their consistently nationally ranked cross country teams.

I think you need to check your facts. HC has had three MLB players in the past 50 years. Also Pazik’s last season in MLB was 1977.

Well, since you ask...(1) Providence has long been a rival of Holy Cross so that really explains it for most people. (2) No, not jealous since I do not follow them. I find it hard to believe that a school with. no baseball has had more players in the pros that HC, but that could happen. If they had that talent and did not use it that seems short sighted, but it also falls under "I don't care." (3)You do make an occasional post that is insightful and which I find interesting, but the constant negative posts are really tedious. If you don't like HC, simply stay away. Be well.

Brian’s skewed perspective allows us to appreciate all that HC has to offer. As he nit picks at HC athletics program, one realizes our robust history, as well as the plethora of on campus facilities currently available to our student athletes.
Looking forward to seeing Brian sitting behind the plate of the new Holy Cross softball stadium and at mid field of the Smith Stadium that will be remodeled and enlarged for Soccer and Lacrosse and enjoying the view atop Mt. St. James of the Worcester hills.
Wonder what he will be complaining about then?.........
PS, Providence had baseball from 1923 to 1999, when the sport was eliminated.

Having worked in Johnston, an immediate suburb of Providence, for almost 15 years my company was full of PC grads and had only a couple of HC grads but a few HC parents. Not one of the HC connected folks would have preferred to have gone, or have their kids go, to PC. The same could not be said for the PC connected folks a number of whom complained they had to take a mandatory course called something like "World Civilization." There was a certain degree of "Holy Cross envy" that was even noted once in the ProJo about the immediate past president who expressed his goal was to try to get PC on a par with HC (believe it was on both academic and financial basis). PC not a bad school and has improved over the years. I am absolutely sure this was a result of their Big East affiliation! And as I posted previously, the one baseball PC alum was at least as angry with PC about baseball as I am about you-know-what at HC.

Looking forward to seeing Brian sitting behind the plate of the new Holy Cross softball stadium... Right next to the administrator the HC athletic department assigns to the softball team in the absence of a coach (that's the plan for softball fall games per a coach at one of the scheduled opponents).

There's a 100% chance that the next major leaguer from either school comes from Holy Cross. A lot of other things one can point to PC for athletic superiority; but baseball ain't one of them at this point, folks.

Outside of the 2 flagship programs Men's Basketball and Men's Hockey, their strongest programs traditionally are Track/Cross Country and to a lesser extent Womens Hockey I believe. Lacrosse is basically at our level and even a sport like swimming where we have basicLly no funding, we have actually been competitive in dual meets with PC in the not too distant past.

Well, this thread is officially off the track and down a ditch - maybe start of new thread Meantime the softball team is working out with captains in charge and no coaches in the building - Hey, but we're D.1 and we get a stipend from the NCAA to have a team - great reason to keep losing year after year

And if the player is on the Red Sox and goes back and forth to triple A every week like Lou Merloni did, he won't be going south to RI, he'll be going west to the Woo.
