Baker is the chair of the athletic committee on the BoT. Baker is the former chairman / CEO of Ecolab, a company with $12.75 billion in annual revenue. I am quite certain the Blossom's architectural and engineering study of what to do with the Hart rink had Baker's blessing.

Given past precedent of where our departed ADs seem to end up, Im sure whoever we hire will wind up replacing Jack Swarbick at ND when he retires.

Which is why I tossed in the concept of if the (or now either of the) interim AD(s) is effective, why not consider waiting a year, pocketing the fee for a national search firm and offering one of the interims the full time gig at a good home town discount. My experience is that resources spent to retain talented coaches (Duffner, Willard, Pearl, Chesney) is a better investment than paying full market price for national searches to identify ADs on their way up. At HC, the fundraising aspect of the AD job is important, but we have a well oiled Development operation to partner with Athletics. Combined with winning coaches, that might allow the highest level of fundraising as opposed to hiring a slick AD who can talk a dog off a bone. I noticed there has been no mention of a search firm yet, which I applaud.

Nick Smith led Assumption to a pretty high level but if he continues to stay at HC, he will have been passed over two times for this job. Might be time for him to move on.

Perhaps Nick's world (like another Nick, the late Nick Manzello of the T&G) ends at the Kenneth F. Burns Bridge over Lake Quinsigamond and he wishes to stay in Worcester. Have either of the new co-interim ADs had much interaction with your colleagues in the local media/vendor community and if so, how are they viewed?

Nick's world doesn't even include Worc, as he, like several in the dept live in RI and leave Worc like their asses got shot out of cannons when the workday is over.
This is a big factor in the dept not understanding the Worc market & how to engage it.

I don't know that much about the qualifications of our other co-interim AD and have no clue if she would be a good choice. But going towards ACTP point, Rose Shea is a native of central MA and I believe has worked in HC athletics since graduating from HC back in 87

Living in North Smithfield is directly between Worcester and Providence...He has literally worked in Massachusetts college athletics since 2004 when he was at Stonehill.

Challenging first week in Omaha for Marcus - just saw on Creighton's site:
It is with a tremendous amount of sadness that Creighton Athletics shares the news that Chris Gradoville, an alumnus who served as Creighton's director of baseball operations, was killed in a shooting on the morning of Wednesday, September 30th. On Thursday afternoon, Father Hendrickson gathered with head coach Ed Servais and athletic director Marcus Blossom to share this difficult news with the baseball team and staff.

Marcus had not been at HC long before the tragic rowing team van crash. I wish him well in Omaha.

Marcus was with the Creighton WBB team tonight doing radio at PC. Never seen an AD doing color during a game.

Red Auerbach did color for the Celtics when he was GM. That was fifty+ years ago. I think Heinsohn was one of his broadcast partners. He also did "Red on roundball" segments on national TV NBA telecasts while he was GM of the Celtics. He would teach concepts like "give and go" for a couple of minutes at halftime.

1. Tommy Heinsohn was play by play guy (mostly) for the Celts for 2-3 years until Russell retired and he was named head coach. The games were on then-brand-new Channel 56. Red often was his analyst, believe it or not; Tommy was the voice of reason in that duo. 2. Ronnie Perry Sr. did a few HC away games analyst work.

I don't think there are any subways in RI but there are many subway alums of PC in the Ocean State.
