I may be in the minority, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to get excited for basketball seasons. In previous years (even the ones where the expectations weren’t very high), the eve of the season would have felt like Christmas Eve. Anyone else feel this way? Maybe it’s because we are playing some school called Regis tomorrow. Unsure.
Hopefully Nelson figures it out this year.

There were far more nights with a electric atmosphere in the Hart Center from ‘75-‘80 than the following 41 years. That era feels like Camelot.

I'm looking forward to the season and and the game tomorrow night! We have not seen a game love in a long time, and this team is a whole new ball game!! Just think, we have NEVER seen ANY of the team members play live before!!
I am hopeful, the group last season progressed, yes AB and MF are gone, but like every other year there are new young players to get to know and cheer on!
GO CROSS GO!!!!!!!

I am excited by tomorrow's game because HOLY CROSS is playing. It matters not a hill of beans who the opponent is because it is HC I want to see.

Think back to the excitement before opening up against Maryland in '19. It's now a whole new team but the jerseys and positive anticipation is the same. We root for the laundry.

Ahhh, "rooting for the laundry." How poetic!

Makes more sense than going to HC games more because of the opponent and less so because of the Crusaders.

"Rooting for the laundry" could be seen as a variation of "defend the shield."

I’m definitely excited to see the team tomorrow night and to sit in my new chairbacks. Have to agree with SOV though that I am embarrassed about playing Regis, an all women’s college when I was matriculating. However, not as embarrassed as I was in the back seat of my buddy’s car outside the field house that Saturday night during freshman year when the Regis throng visited HC for my first mixer. Go Cross, Go!!

Each evening from December to December, I might think back to all those tales of Potter and Vicens, but I am still excited about this season. I have no clue what to expect from these guys and I don't think HC should ever play D-III. Last year was the first season since the place was built that I saw zero games at Hart. I'm just itchy to get back

Is Caleb Green playing for Stags?

Post by efg72 on Nov 14, 2021 18:25:28 GMT -5
Yes
The stags are more experienced and they play with a sense of purpose on both ends. Little given up in transition compared to our game v BC, disciplined team, and adjustments made throughout the game.
Anxious to watch Q game tomorrow with a full squad???
Praying for improvement
That said it gets old when we talk about youth and inexperience. These kids, for the most part have played about 200-300 games in AAU while in HS against this level of talent-although coaching and teaching is not the same for the top 100 teams
As we see many are comfortable in rolling out the ball and let the kids compete with little coaching.

With several posters describing anything they see as bad on the court as "AAU ball" it makes me nervous to hear about all the AAU experience these players have. I can't see all that as really good or bad...it is mixed and the coaches need to straighten that out.
Regarding Caleb Green...he played for about16+ minutes against BC, scored one basket, had 1 rebound and 1 steal, he had 3 assists, and 3 turnovers.

Regarding AAU, There must be a decent amount of expense involved for facilities rental, coaching salaries, travel expenses, etc. Do skilled but poor prospects get assistance paying the fees? Do the teams need to have a balance of not as skilled, but able to pay full freight players to sustain themselves?

Highly skilled players pay little at the top programs. In fact, the best are constantly enticed, by trips, gear, etc. to switch programs Our former player, Drew Lowder, now at his third college, played for 4 Grass Roots teams

Most of the teams are sponsored and the kids get to play in the top tournaments in Vegas,Pittsburgh, LA, Atlanta…among others in their local, regional areas.
hoops and other coaches might have more up to date info as the last group I coached was in 2007.

The cesspool has only gotten deeper since then. I cringe at that thought. Back then there were a handful of good coaches.and people but it certainly didn’t bring out the finest qualities in way too many.

There are some high quality coaches, as Jason Curry of Big Apple Hoops, but many are self serving.
