Do some youngsters opt for AAU over instead of HS ball? Or, is AAU used solely in addition to HS?

Both take place. Basketball is being undercut by AUU (play and money) in much the same way that girls gymnastics was virtually destroyed by outside competition. BTW, I would lump the new faux high schools that are basketball factories in with the AAU teams in that regard.

Where things seemed to have changed from the olden days is, many top hs prospects seem to look to transfer to prep schools as soon as they can. Could be wrong, but it just seems like there are fewer D1 players that spent 4 years at a high school.

Soccer is a close second to hockey- there are elite clubs (if you see "Development Academy", that's usually one of them) that do not allow their players to play high school.
Now, getting back to basketball, AAU more or less runs mid-March to mid-June and then again in the fall before hs/prep ball starts. There are many levels and, therefore, many kids on completely different "career paths" all under the umbrella of AAU.
No question the taller kids tend to end up at prep schools even if they start at a local high school; the thinking being that those kids are wasting their time playing against your average high school big, who's a lot smaller.

UNH gave Providence a battle before losing 69-58. They also had a 6 point loss recently to Marquette. I think the UNH game is going head to head with the Pats-Titans on the 28th.

Just speculation on my part based on Cmo's question It's reasonable to assume that IF HC is hosting a football playoff game at 12:30 at Fitton and a basketball game at Hart at 2:00, that attendance will suffer. Football time will be set by the NCAA or some committee., Not that hard to ask UNH to change the game time to eliminate the conflict. Not saying it will happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did change it, I seem to recall a similar situation with a early season basketball game at UNH some years ago that would have been at the same time as a UNH home football play-off game and the hoops game was moved to eliminate the conflict. Of course this all assumes that the Crusaders get a home game next weekend

Which brings me to my next thought.
HC should do something to get some of the football crowd to the Hart later.

HC should issues special tournament tickets that give admission to BOTH games.
