My sources :
“It was Brown 45 - HC 17 at half. Brown maybe 85-55 final. Ass kicking.
Brown without best player. Hc had 3 players out. Not sure who.”
I will try for more specifics.

I’m telling myself it’s only a scrimmage.

I am concerned about who was out and why (injury, illness?).

FWIW, RJJ, Bubba and Rabs were the 3 guys who didn't participate in the open practice.
Will try not to panic just yet.

At least Brown is a D-1 team.

The Regis game is now starting to take on a lot of significance.
They were 8-18 in Div III last season.
I know most of the posters on this board will be watching anxiously.

That's what I said. He might start in D-3 but he chose to walk on in D-1 at Sacred Heart. Shows confidence and I admire that.

Since you did not specify schools, only numbers, and I do not know if he indeed is a walk on at Sacred Heart, I thought you meant that he walked on at D1 HC, not Sacred Heart.

I suspect only “some,” not “most.”
I won’t be anxious before the game but only after if we pull another UMass-auxiliary campus loss. Some wouldn’t be anxious even then.

At least Brown is a D-1 team. Brown is supposed to be good. Hopefully they turn out to be very good.

Hopefully HC can have all of our players available for duty as well.

That whole walk on at HC was a false rumor started on this board. I have no clue of Reilly's scholarship status at Sacred Heart, but he definitely came to HC on scholarship

I heard a similar reports from a secret scrimmage prior to the 2019-20 season. That year didn't end too well. Kind of a buzz kill on my foundationless optimism

The scrimmage score is worrisome, but my concern is heavily offset by the fact that we don't know who didn't play, or who did. In these kinds of scrimmages coaches often send out players they're unsure of to see if they can contribute. They also might experiment with some different offensive and defensive schemes. HC's talent is clearly good enough that they wouldn't get trounced by Brown in ordinary game conditions. We'll know soon enough.

That is their purpose...not to produce wins or losses (since, in any case, they can't do that) but but to test individuals and team play. We will see against Regina what HC has for this season.

Normally I would say you are correct about scrimmages but I also believe that some coaches use them as a confidence builder for an inexperienced team or one that has struggled with wins and that's the case with our team. More importantly is that we don't know who didn't play and, really, the score is still a rumor if I understand the prior posts. We are getting it 3rd hand.

An article or comment was posted from an SHU observer that one of the positive surprises of the pre-season was the play of "walk-on" Joey Reilly, transfer from Holy Cross. Not proof that he is a walk-on but most likely. I wish Joe good luck. SHU appears to be responsive to what the market wants so he should have an expanded choice of majors there also.

I have no clue of Reilly's scholarship status at Sacred Heart, but he definitely came to HC on scholarship Then Coach Nelson is very confused too because in his interview for the preseason Blue Ribbon Basketball Yearbook last year he clearly left the reporter with the impression Reilly was a walk-on. But at this point it doesn’t matter. So let’s move on.

Well, we did OK and bounced back after the UMass-Boston loss, right? We won 8 games subsequently over 1.5 seasons. Rome wasn't built in a day. Patience, my friend.

And if HC lost by 10, I wouldn't give it a second thought. A total beat down, even if both teams are doing some experimenting, is very worrisome Quinnipiac might be the first game that gives a fair evaluation of this squad
