I'm not sure that the high ticket prices at Fitton are a deterrent to Worcesterites, but how about trying a "family pack" offer: 5 tickets plus 5 hot dogs and 5 soft drinks for $50? If you have two kids, one can bring a friend

Here's the thing. You could probably easily get 15,000-18,000 at Fitton for most opponents if the administration would wise up and admit anyone from Worcester for $2-$3 (proof of residency required but scrutinize that proof as closely as they looked at the covid/ID proof - in other words, very lightly). "Here's the deal" - an empty seat brings absolutely no revenue. Doesn't generate an enthusiastic crowd. Looks bad on TV/streaming. Doesn't do anyone any good. For a cheap seat, it builds community connection and the people who come, especially kids, will use the concessions. Can you quantify the resentment factor for Dick from Holden or Pat from Paxton who has to pay $15 at the gate? Would they just be happy to pay 5 - 7.5 times more?

Yeah, zippo, as they already aren't coming to Fitton.
I'd say, let everyone from Massachusetts in for $2-$3 but I know your snappy comeback will be, what about those just over the border in RI, CT or NH?
And, my fallback position, which you conveniently forgot was that there be a very loose inspection of residency. Besides, Dick & Pat MUST have friends in Worcester county who could buy the tickets for them. If they don't have friends in Worcester, they are probably hermits or recluses who aren't going anyway.

We have been hearing about this sub-optimal visitors locker room for as long as this board has been in existence. Is it really that bad? If so, why in the heck don't we invest the few dollars necessary to bring it up to standard? Other than maybe UMass, who is coming to Fitton that will stay away because of a lousy locker room. I've neve been inside the home locker room, but I think that's no great shakes either. I would work on that before visitors. I don't have an issue if things are uncomfortable for the opposition. Kind of like the old Boston Garden that had no hot water in the visitors locker room

Given the same conditions that existed this past Saturday (and let's say covid issues are mostly behind us): UNH 13-15K probably the strongest FCS following in NE week to week URI 10-13K hoop following primarily Maine 8-10K too far I meant to say FCS Playoff game against any of those regional State U's, but given the colder weather during playoffs, these figures are probably equally valid. Yeah, those are probably high for playoff games in New England in late Nov/early Dec actually. We barely drew 10-12K or so in '83 vs. W. Carolina....

Kind of like the old Boston Garden that had no hot water in the visitors locker room Red Auerbach claimed later in life that was a myth - that when there was no hot water for the visitors there was none for the home team, either. However, he allowed the myth to stand during the life of the old Garden to keep the intimidation factor. Larry Bird or another former Celtic also said the advantage the Celtics had in the old Garden of knowing where the soft spots on the parquet floor were was also a myth they let stand. Apparently the soft spots were real, but floating depending on how the floor was put together for that game and the Celts had no way to know where they'd be either.

I was aware of this, but the logic is still sound. I don't really care if the opponents have a nice comfy locker room

...or if college sports writers have their free food on time in the Fitton Field press box?

Kind of like the old Boston Garden that had no hot water in the visitors locker room Last winter/spring, Marcus said in a zoom meeting, that the home lockeroom at Fitton was going to be upgraded during the summer. I have no way of verifying if the project was completed. The current home lockeroom was built in 1981, as a condition for Rick Carter coming to HC. The last ice I was in the HC football lockeroom was in 1998. At the time it needed an upgrade. At the next home game against Georgetown, someone should wander over from the home side to take a peek regarding the upgrade status.

Re the visiting locker room, I am reminded of a conversation I had with a work colleague way back in 1979 at my first job out of HC at a financial firm in lower Manhattan. I started there in July of that year. My colleague, a 1978 graduate of Brown, joined late in 1979 after having spent 2 years as an assistant football coach at Wagner. He was an offensive lineman at Brown. During his first day at the office, I was introduced to him by the training director. I had seen his resume and knew he had been a football player and he certainly had the size. I asked him if he had played against HC. He tartly replied, "Ah Fitton Field, that's where they move the lawn mowers out of the way in the visitors locker room." I was perplexed by that response. Only years later did I realize he was referring to the maintenance building up the hill near Kimble. At least the current locker room is inside the stadium.

I believe prior to the maintenance building lockeroom, the visitors changed in lower Kimball.

Didn't they use the day hop lounge for a time?

I was aware of this, but the logic is still sound. I don't really care if the opponents have a nice comfy locker room I seem to be taking on the world today, but how about Holy Cross being first class in every way? The rest of the campus is pristine.

Agree 100%. If anything I’d make the visitors locker room particularly nice—why irritate the team you’re going to play? Plus there’s that first class thing…
