Recruiting for the Patriot League and Holy Cross specifically, for non scholarship slots on a low D-1 roster has to be an acquired skill that should be better understood and improved upon over time. It's been noted that recruiting is selling, but product knowledge of what your selling complements selling ability. I hope a hidden asset to retaining coaches like EK for awhile is acquired skill at identifying which potential recruits are the best fit for Holy Cross. A .310 hitter for four years could be more valuable than a .330 hitter for one year and I hope coaches in all our sports are honing their skill at identifying keepers. Good luck to Nick Wang. I hope he finds his best fit. If he doesn't need a scholarship he should have one of the least stressful experiences in the portal as the much of the college baseball world would be his oyster. If it's a situation where a player will only transfer if given a scholarship at the next school, I hope the Coach has kept the light on for that type of player to remain with HC baseball after testing the waters. It is kind of hard to get in the mind of a 17 year old hs kid and even if you do, his or her feelings a year later as a college frosh are likely to be very different. It is hard enough recruiting at a school like HC without trying to gauge which recruit is likely to stick with the program for more than a cup of coffee.

If coaching talent could be measured as exactly equal between an HC coach in his or her fifth season here and one in his or her second season, do you see any additional value to the coach with the longer tenure in purple? It would be nice if there was some way of getting coaching added value other than competing for proven D-1 winning coaches at market rates which HC doesn't have the revenue to do for 26 sports.

Army (31-22 record) wins today 12-2 and will represent the league in the NCAA's - they were clearly the best team in the PL throughout the season

O’Neill was probably going to start a game, but when Bucknell had the lead in game 1, coach probably rolled the dice by having him close. Didn’t work out, but probably the right move. Army should score some runs in the regionals, but starters after Early will probably have a tough time. Would like to see them get a W, would be good for PL

Would like to see them get a W, would be good for PL yes, you’re correct about rolling the dice. He did it in the previous series with Lehigh and it worked out. Against Army it worked until the ninth inning. Bucknell has been one pitcher short since the start of the season when their preseason pitcher of the year went down with an arm injury. That was the difference.

As of today there are no HC players on any Hampton Collegiate Baseball League.team. Under the previous coach, at least 2 or 3 of our better players performed each year. Bucknell has at least 6, Lehigh at least 1.

NCAA committee thought highly of the Ivy champ Columbia and made them a 3 seed at the Blacksburg regional- the lions beat army this weekend 8-5 in an impromptu game scheduled to keep both teams sharp during their long break

Committee also probably thinks highly of the Ivy League (17th RPI conference).

Holy Cross finished 272 out of 301 in RPI as an fyi.
It's the lowest end of season RPI in program history. Last year was the second worst RPI in program history (269)
We played the weakest schedule this year in the last 15 years. Troy was the best team we played with an end of year RPI of 98.
Our best players are in the transfer portal.
Our coaching staff may be the weakest in Division 1 with no connection to the area or alumni.
And the above isn't even the worst part. The worst part is...
No one cares. Alumni have disconnected from the program. Athletic leadership has further deprioritized the program. There is no sign of change.
The program has a better chance of being dropped than contending in the Patriot League.
RIP Holy Cross Baseball

I care about the baseball team, but you make a lot of good points, and it is in a bad place. I think we have to give Kit a chance. No idea what his plan is.

The unfortunate thing is, I'm sure those above ADKH will merely look at the 11-14 conference record and qualification for the PLT and assume all is well. We are seemingly competitive. That's all that matters.

He showed up for senior day pictures, then left before the first pitch. If I’m a new AD, I’m watching games to 1) show I care and 2) make some personal assessments 3) observe coaching interaction and decision making, etc.

Yikes. Even worse than I thought. Let's hope some school wants HCEK as an assistant and it opens the door for a new coach to take over. Doubt it, but we can all pray.

You think recruits are making decisions because they see Holy Cross players in the Hampton League over the Perfect Game League or the Futures League? The current HC players are going to the leagues they are going to see the most playing time and see the best level of competition. I just pulled up one of the Assumption guys that is in the Hamptons League with Sag Harbor. He has pitched 8.1 innings over his two seasons in Worcester. assumption.prestosports.com/sports/bsb/2020-21/bios/pacheco_will_5uqx?view=career&pos=pAnother outfielder on the team was the third best hitter at Rhode Island COLLEGE! One of the other two outfielders on the roster is from perennial power Gettysburg. Not the highest level of competition in the Hamptons...
