The Cape Cod Baseball League has sent over 1250 players to the major leagues. Of course the league started in 1885 which helps. One in six major leaguers has played in the Cape League according to the Cape Cod Convention and Visitors Bureau, which is kind of hard to believe.

Just under 23,000 players in MLB history so the 1 in 6 is a wild exaggeration. Perhaps it is 1 in 6 in the post-war era?

Five out of six current major league players did not play in the Cape League so we are in good shape.

Uconn into the Regional final with a 10-5 win over host Maryland on Saturday night. Anyone else recall someone in this board saying they played in a week conference and weren’t that good?

Again, think it comes down to cost and scholarships. You’re coveted if throwing 90 in HS, so will get many offers. HC probably recruits guys who are projected to throw harder, as their college careers evolve. Some probably pan out, some don’t.

I watched LIU today. Guys threw in the 90’s. Foreign to have a guy in the 90’s at HC. Why? Because you develop velocity. You don't purchase it. And we are extremely weak at developing players, among other things.... like pretty much everything it takes to run a division 1 baseball program. Scott Loiseau (D2 COY multiple times), Steve Simoes (Mass coaches HOF), Gabe Ribas (Detroit Tigers player development), Matt Antonelli (MLB Player/1st Round pick), Matt Weagle (6th round pick) were assistants at Holy Cross over recent years. We have Sam Tinkham, Michael Slattery and Mitchell Holmes. What did we think was going to happen?

Why would a high schooler throwing in the 90's head off to a non-schollie program at high-cost HC? Ditto a kid who projects to throw with 90+ velocity as a frosh/soph in college. We can (and do) have a participating PL team but the odds of landing kids with pro potential are very very slim. Speaking of the very rare HC baseball player and pro potential, Declan Cronin is getting steady work in relief for the AA Birmingham Barons: www.milb.com/player/declan-cronin-686539?stats=gamelogs-r-pitching-mlb&year=2022

Regis HS has many graduates in distinguished fields ( inc the good doctor who will be honored on Saturday) but probably few, if any, MLB players Good luck to Declan.

Uconn into the Regional final with a 10-5 win over host Maryland on Saturday night. Anyone else recall someone in this board saying they played in a week conference and weren’t that good? When you go 46-13 and 16-5 in your conference while being named a three seed (same as Columbia) you play in a weak conference. They were 1-0 heading into the tournament in quadrant 1 victories and 7-2 in quadrant 2.

May I suggest you become a resident on the UConn & Columbia boards and harass them. We've more than paid your dues on this board.
