Umm maybe the fact he’s from TN has something to do with this?

Also, HC can't hang it's hat on robust on-campus facilities. As much as the facilities cost to build, that's the easy part. HC pays premium prices for construction in the highest quality manner. Then goes light when it comes to hiring proven winners for AD and head coaching positions.
The general default has been to hire men and women on the way up but without a pattern of consistent winning as the top person (either AD or coach) and hope to get lucky. Coach Chesney is the exception that proves the rule.
Would you rather have AIC's hockey coach and play downtown or have head coaches who take their first command of a team at HC and play on-campus?

Would be more excited if he was staying but a nice honor for him.

He had the highest batting average of any of the third basemen All Americans. Decision by HC Athletic Dept. whether to tweet out the news and congratulate him with an announcement on Goholycross.com? Awkward.

The AIC coach had zero D-1 head coaching experience when he took the job. Served as the mens and womens coach at Manhattanville in his only other head coaching gigs. Chesney had no D-1 coaching experience of any kind as an assistant or head coach. But he had built winning programs at two colleges. That's a better bet than an assistant at even the highest level of D-1 if building a winning program is your goal. Often by the time our head coaches figure out the head coaching learning curve it's time for them to go. Why not let them go through the leadership learning curve on another college's time and dime, not HC's? Having said that, there's no foolproof method of picking coaches, but past experience is the best predictor of future results as they say.

There was some list of the top 10 PL basketball coaches a few years ago. My recollection is that most of them had success as a head coach elsewhere before becoming a PL head coach.

From a story in today's Courant about UConn baseball in the Super Regionals. A comment from Geno gives the reporter a reason to mention HC. “I think Coach Penders’ kids relish the opportunity, and I think they relish being the underdogs,” UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma said. “I think they’re the underdogs all the time in the NCAA tournament because of where they’re from. They’re from New England. When was the last time a New England team won a College World Series or was playing in the College World Series?”That would be Holy Cross in 1952, long before the current 64-team format. UConn is the only Northeast team among the 16 still standing in the NCAA tournament and the first team from the Northeast to make it this far since Stony Brook in 2012."www.courant.com/sports/college/hc-sp-ncaa-baseball-uconn-stanford-super-regional-20220611-20220610-ttu6gkplbjfsxa7vvelge2pbsa-story.html

Maine made the CWS five times from 81 to 86; SBU's the only Eastern team I can find who made it afterwards.
I assume the format changed in 1987 (seeding rather than straight geographical)?
Shoutout to Foley- UNH made an appearance once.

Notre Dame to Omaha after upsetting the overall number one seed, Tennessee. UConn, playing Stanford, a win away from Omaha. ND made it in 2002 back when they were in the Big East. It should be an expection now being part of the ACC.

An expectation getting to Omaha? Expectation to compete to get to Omaha. The ACC is the second or third best conference in the country. Florida State fired Mike Martin Jr (son of legendary Mike Martin Sr.) this week after being a two seed and going 34-25 and 15-15 in ACC play. Martin had an overall record of 77–54 in three seasons and made the NCAA Tournament in both seasons. He spent 25 years on the staff in Tallahassee. Clemson also fired their coach after missing the NCAA Tournament and going 35-23 overall and 13-16 in ACC play. Lee had an overall record of 242-136 (.640) and 102-86 (.543) in league play in seven seasons as Clemson’s head coach, which included trips to the NCAA Tournament from 2016-19, as well as the ACC Championship in 2016. Virginia Tech lost in the Supers but was the fourth overall seed this year.

If UConn goes all the way, CT public higher education will have swept two of the three NCAA baseball national championships this season. Somewhat similar to the year UConn wom both M+W D-1 Basketball championships.

UConn scored 3 in the first but were outscored the rest of the way 10-2 - a great season with 50 wins ends for the Huskies
