Going for sure. I suspect we will have 5,000 to 6,000 folks in attendance. Hoping Baseball Lot stays open even after the (hopefully little) rainfall projected for Friday! From the college's parking announcement, no parking on the baseball field. Parking on the West Lot, which I assume is the old HoJos lot. Tonight Snow showers likely, mainly before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 25. West wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Saturday Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 35. West wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Thanks for not mentioning the projected wind chill factor. That will be sub-freezing for sure. Any signs of temporary lights being installed? Would the gusts as high as 28 mph have any effect on them?

Because I looked them up, here are the official attendance figures for each of our games this year:
Merrimack 8211 Harvard 10023 (Homecoming) Georgetown 4518 (Fall Break) Colgate 9508 (Polar Park and Family Weekend) Lafayette 6514
Compared to what other PL teams draw, these numbers are quite strong. While I officially predicted 8192, a number like 6500 would be pretty good given the cold weather and empty campus.

Let's see exactly how hardy Crusader, and to a lesser extent Sacred Heart, football fans are. While I am guessing not as hardy as Buffalo Bills or Green Bay Packers fans, having lived in the Syracuse area for 9 years (i.e. 9 long winters with an average of 120" of snow a year), I always chuckle when I hear New Englanders proudly talk about their reputation of how hardy they are in winter. If we get to the 8,000 that I predicted, they'll get a metaphorical star from me.
Having lousy weather not only is "John Madden football" weather, it's a way for fans to demonstrate that they are, in fact, "fanatics." I know a bunch of us Crossporters were in the Fitton stands in 1966 against Dartmouth for that great upset in a biblical deluge. Even more is on the line Saturday.

Guessing in the 3,500 - 4,500 range. No students. Holiday weekend. SHU won’t bring many people. 36 degree weather. Remember that season ticket holders aren’t reported in attendance, like they would be for regular season. I’d love to know how many season ticket holders we have in the “revenue” sports.

Just don’t see many local residents showing up to watch HC play Sacred Heart — doubt many are even aware that SH has a football team. Hope I’m wrong.

The draw is definitely that it’s a playoff game much more than the opponent. Lots working against us but hopefully people will still turn out in decent numbers. Most youth sports pause this weekend so hopefully lots of parents out there looking for a Saturday afternoon activity. I am sure we are reaching out to all the local youth football programs as well.

Do hope you are right but have to think the opponent matters a bit. Fingers crossed.

SHU matters in that they may well brings fans to tomorrow's payoff game...at least more easily than some midwest school could.

Do hope you are right but have to think the opponent matters a bit. Fingers crossed. It would matter some. But, of all the teams in the field, Villanova is probably the only one that would change attendance materially. Maybe JMU. But they’re both seeded and probably never coming to Fitton for a playoff game unless we get seeded one year. It is what it is.

I dont think even Villanova would move the needle attendance wise. They would bring like 11 fans total.
UMASS when they come back to FCS would be the best possible playoff draw. Or UNH.
JMU is going to the Sun Belt next year right?

JMU is going to the Sun Belt next year right? I would agree on visiting fans. For Worcester area fans, I think HC vs Villanova would be more likely to draw casual local fans than HC vs SHU. And, yes, JMU is abandoning the FCS for the less green pastures of the Sun Belt Conference.

Without a doubt but to some extent when the connection isn't there between HC and the locals, an opponent like UMass or Villanova isn't going to bring thousands of people out of the woodwork. I think BC would if they ever agreed to a game in Worcester.

Worc is a "name" opponent fanbase. Only way they're coming out to see 'nova is if you tell them it's a basketball game.

The coldest HC game (and one of the two coldest in all) I was at was the HC big upset, Jon Morris led win over BC in 1963 in Fitton. That was also over Thanksgiving weekend.

Ditto. My gosh it seemed the stands shook with some of the hits by the great Jon Morris. And, he was a very decent fellow.

Was hoping Cool Beans would be open in Hogan before the game so we could get a little food and be inside before we head to the game. Alas, it’s closed all day.
