I like what I see on paper. Boston guy, college athlete, similar age to Chesney (~43) and lots of football experience. By everything I read, will value a football program as a top priority. I wonder if Vince and other decision makers consulted with Coach Ches?

Former AD for football at NC State. Well rounded as well, having played lax and been involved in the CCHA hockey conference. I like it.
I wonder if Coach Ches was instrumental in the hire.

Here's the email from the Prez
My fellow Crusaders,
I am pleased to announce that Christopher “Kit” Hughes, who is currently deputy director of athletics at Bowling Green State University, has been named director of intercollegiate athletics at Holy Cross. He will begin his tenure in January.
This announcement will be shared with the campus community later this morning, and to the public early this afternoon.
Throughout our national search process, it was apparent that Kit understood and embraced our Jesuit mission and the significant role athletics has, and will continue to play, at Holy Cross. As a former student-athlete, coach and administrator, he brings broad and relevant experience to his new role. His principled leadership, commitment to academic excellence and integrity, and deep experience in creating the strategic vision and structures that enable success stood out to the search committee and make him an outstanding fit for the College.
While at Bowling Green, Hughes helped lead day-to-day operations of the Falcons’ athletic department and was responsible for administration of its men’s basketball and football teams. Prior to Bowling Green, he spent seven years at North Carolina State University, concluding his tenure there as Assistant Athletic Director for Corporate Relations. He previously spent eight years as a football coach and administrator at Boston College and NC State.
Hughes earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Bowdoin College in 2001 and received his master’s degree in higher education from Boston College in 2006. He was a four-year letterman in lacrosse at Bowdoin and led his team to the 2001 ECAC Championship.
Hughes is married to the former Kathrine Ranere and the couple has four children: daughter Finley, and sons Coady, Cullen, and Griffin.
We will introduce Kit to the campus community at a press event at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 9 in the Doran Auditorium in the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. I invite you to watch via live webstream on the College’s YouTube channel. It will be archived for later viewing.
I am grateful to the Athletics Director Search Committee for their work. Former ice hockey player Doug Baker, Jr. ’81, member of the board of trustees and chair of the athletics committee; and chairman and former CEO of Ecolab Inc., chaired the committee. I am grateful for his work in selecting an outstanding candidate to lead our athletics department. Members of the search committee included:
• Erin Bengston '22, student athlete, Softball • Amber Hupp, Associate Professor, Chemistry Department Chair • Paul Irish, Associate Dean of Students • Brian Kelley ’83, Former member of the Board of Trustees, Football alumnus • Cornell LeSane, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management • Chase Maitland ’22, student athlete, Men’s Lacrosse • Payton Shubrick ’15, Women’s Track and Field alumna The committee was assisted by Parker Executive Search of Atlanta.
Please join me in welcoming Kit and his family to Holy Cross, as we work with him to build a bright future for Crusader athletics.
Sincerely, Vincent D. Rougeau President

I like the fact Mr. Hughes is a grad of a small, selective, LAC in New England. I wish him a long and successful tenure at HC.

Love the New England connections. This guy seems like a Chesney type hire with his age and passion. I wonder of BC influenced the search process and in turn can help not only pay BC what he deserves but keeps him on the Hill longer?

I saw football and basketball and was excited. One needs a turbocharger to take advantage of the great success over the past three years to increase the output even more... and the second one needs life support and resuscitation.

I suppose I can still get excited about the hire. Maybe he needs to confess first. Lot of good hockey and football players in the ISL so perhaps we move the needle there. It doesn't hurt that BH hasn't sniffed a football win against us in a few years!

It would be great if we use this opportunity to make a job in Holy Cross Athletics a potential career job. If we invest our resources the right and make the right choices in hiring, it will make the fund raising efforts much easier and if history with other institutions proves true our admissions numbers will grow

I do not know enough about Mr. Malone but he has an extensive resume even in D1 FBS. That being said, I think a young coach with energy like Chesney and Carty is the way to go at convincing recruits from San Antonio to come to Worcester and win Patriot League championships.

Wishing our new AD the best of course. But do others see the same pattern as Kearney, Pine, Blossom and Nelson all being 40ish, with impeccable, polished resumes in ascending support positions at larger schools but no experience being an AD and no experience in the PL?

Pine was at Army. I believe they are in the PL.😊 And of those I mentioned, Pine made the biggest contribution, ironically in PL FB that Army doesn't participate in, by moving on at the right time from one coach and making a fine outside the pattern pick for the new coach. However Army doesn't face the same challenges as the smaller private schools in the PL.

Side note: Terry Malone ex football player at the Cross is the Offensive Coordinator at Bowling Green.😜😉 I was not aware of Terry Malone--here is what the BGSU website says about him: "Terry Malone begins year three of his second stint at Bowling Green, bringing more than 30 years of coaching experience, which includes an NCAA National Championship and an NFL Super Bowl title. Malone coached at Bowling Green from 1986-95 under Moe Ankney and Gary Blackney, serving in a variety of roles, including offensive line coach, tight ends coach, offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. He helped BGSU to back-to-back MAC Championships and bowl game victories in 1991 and 1992. The Falcons went 61-45-5 during that 10-year stretch. In his first year serving as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach under Scot Loeffler, Malone began to rebuild the offense. Tight end Quintin Morris became one of the most productive tight ends in the country, catching 55 passes for 649 yards and four touchdowns to earn second team All-MAC honors. BGSU scored 46 points, racking up 37 first downs and 620 yards of total offense in the new coaching staff’s debut against Morgan State. The Falcons also dominated MAC East rival Akron by a 35-6 score on Senior Day. Prior to returning to Bowling Green, Malone coached at Western Michigan as the team's running backs coach in 2018 and as the Broncos' Director of Player Development in 2017. Prior to Western Michigan, he was the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at Purdue. Malone spent nine seasons on Sean Payton's New Orleans Saints staff, helping the Saints capture the Super Bowl in 2009. He mentored Jimmy Graham, helping elevate him into an All-Pro tight end. In 2001, Graham became the first Saints tight end to have more than 1,000 yards receiving and in 2013, he led the league in touchdown catches and the Saints in receiving yards (1,215). Prior to his stint with the Saints, Malone was the offensive line coach (1997-05) and offensive coordinator (2001-05) at Michigan. He was a member of Michigan's 1997 National Championship team and a part of five Big Ten championships. His teams played in eight New Year's Day bowl games, while he helped produce 14 All-Big Ten selections and four All-Americans. Michigan had back-to-back Big Ten Player of the Year winners on offense (Chris Perry in 2003 and Braylon Edwards in 2004), while two of his linemen were recognized as Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year (Jon Jansen in 1997 and Steve Hutchinson in 2000). Malone began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Arizona in 1983 before moving on to his alma mater, Holy Cross, in 1985 to coach tight ends. He also spent the 1996 season as the offensive line coach at Boston College. A four-year tight end at Holy Cross, Malone earned his bachelor's degree in history and was a captain his senior season.
TERRY MALONE COACHING STOPS 2019-pr: Bowling Green (Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line) 2017-18: Western Michigan (Running Backs/Director of Player Development) 2015-16: Purdue (Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends) 2006-14: New Orleans Saints (Tight Ends) 1997-05: Michigan (Offensive Line/Offensive Coordinator) 1996: boston college (Offensive Line) 1986-95: Bowling Green (Offensive Line/Tight Ends/Offensive Coordinator) 1985: Holy Cross (Tight Ends)
1983-84: Arizona (Graduate Assistant)" Edit: he played 44 games for HC catching 52 passes for 590yards and 1 TD

1997. Michigan. That means Ton Brady earned an NCAA ring to go with his seven others. A fact I never picked up on despite being a long time fan. I thought Michigan was good but not national champs while Brady was an underclassman. Good research Ky.

Tough time to become the HC AD. Men’s basketball is a dumpster fire. Women’s basketball is meh. Football is awesome but we’re on borrowed time before we have to search for a new coach. Neither hockey team is doing anything though there is some reason to be hopeful there. The Olympic sports have been awful since Beaven was a dorm. Tall order but, if he turns it around, he can write his ticket. Guys who did virtually nothing for us moved on to bigger jobs.
