AU's definitely coming on. Defense today was outstanding. Lehigh missed a couple of open looks from deep but I thought part of that, at least, was because we really locked in early on running them off the three-point line and getting into any kind of rhythm. Have beaten BU, Bucknell and Lehigh in the last two weeks. Will be hard to beat Lehigh on back to back days but if we win Wednesday we obviously get the season sweep and tiebreaker over them and all but clinch a top-four spot.

Copied from the Bucknell board:
American knocked off Lehigh this afternoon. They play again tomorrow. That makes the current standings look like this:
Boston U . 11-4 Holy Cross 11-4 Lehigh . . . 10-5 Bucknell . 10-5 American . 10-5 Army W.P. . 9-6
Boston U currently owns the tiebreaker due to a win over HC. But they play HC again at the end of the year. Bucknell is 3rd at the moment due to its 3-1 record vs LU and AU. AU is 2nd due to a 2-1 record against the group. AU meets LU tomorrow in a crucial game, which will knock one of them out of the 3rd place tie. It probably would be better for the Bison if LU wins, since the Bison swept the series vs LU and would thus own the tiebreaker in any two-way tie.

American looked very good today. Had balance which is key. I think if Lehigh takes the same approach on defense tomorrow as they did today that the Eagles will get the sweep. No idea why they guarded so far out on the perimeter and didn't pack the paint. I thought AU's weakness was perimeter shooting?

Sue Troyan is a good recruiter but not good in x’s and o’s, so Lehigh underachieving is never a surprise. AU has a big edge over LU in the coaching department.

Anyone notice the PL women were one game over .500 in the OOC this season? Something's cooking.
Thanks D-3😊 But still good for a low major league.

Our small lineup played well. I expect Lehigh will try to pound us inside tonight, but I can live with that if it means they shoot fewer threes.

LS, you say something's cooking ? what exactly is that - against a very weak ooc we were 5-5 vs. D.1 compet we are losing 4 of our top 8 players to graduation our 3 frosh have nor shined does anyone know that any of our 4 incoming recruits have exceeded their h.s. expectations this season ?
I say this final stretch to the season is our opportunity to get 'something cooking'

I say this final stretch to the season is our opportunity to get 'something cooking' I was referring to the Patriot League. I notice now I didn't make that clear. In viewing the standings I noticed the league as a whole won one more game than they lost in WBB OOC play. I recall years where the PL in FB, M&W BB have had decidedly losing records as a league against OOC competition. Thus I was very impressed. Regarding HC, I agree. The team was picked to finish fifth. I think Avery has a Tom Brady like effect on the rest of the team, giving them confidence and helping them all play better. This final stretch is an opportunity to take it to the house against the odds. BU has more size and talent, but this HC team has a little bit of magic.

I don't know what the expectations for the incoming frosh were, but Meg Cahalan has started every game for the #1 ranked team in NJ who are also the #3/5 ranked team in the country whose only loss was to the #1 ranked team in the country this past weekend . She's averaging around 8 pts a game in limited minutes (they tend to win their games by rather large margins & go the bench early). Donnelly is averaging around 10/6 a game, just held a McDonald's AA Justine Pissot (Tenn commit, whose twin sister is going to Navy next year)) to 5 pts in a playoff win yesterday. Her team is ranked #4 in NJ (I think). Flanagan is averaging around 9 a game for the #3 ranked team (25-0) in Penn. Foreman is averaging around 13/14 for a so/so St Andrews Episcopal team. Time will tell who, if any will play a significant role next season, but I think they will all have an opportunity to get mins.

American completes the 24-hour sweep of Lehigh with a 61-52 win at Bender. Rock fight of a game in which AU rallied from an 11-point deficit in the first half to catch the Mountain Hawks in the third, and pulled away in the fourth. Four players in double figures. While Boston, AU and Bucknell are each now 11-5 in the conference, BU wins the current tiebreaker between the three teams by virtue of a current 2-1 cumulative record over AU and Bucknell this season, and is in second place. AU is a cumulative 2-2 against BU and Bucknell, while Bucknell is 1-2 against AU and BU. So AU is now third in the PL, and Bucknell is fourth.
If AU wins either of its final two games – at Loyola Saturday, or home against Lafayette next Wednesday – it clinches no worse than fourth in the PL.

Bucky winning big by 20 over Navy late (what a shame we did not do the same) AU also up big over BU late in the game - 16 pt gap is a surprise

AU is 12-3 in its last 15 games. Have beaten BU twice, Lehigh twice, and Bucknell during the current streak. Best 3-point defense in the league. We are 16-1 at Bender this season. Sunday will be a difficult challenge, b/c Bucknell is playing great. But so are we.

BU sunk badly after they had some injured players return; kind of subtraction by addition. HC seemed to out-quick them and in general HC wasn't that quick of a team.
The player that "retired" before the end of the season might have played into this as well.

Bucknell 16-14 over American in the final. Good crowd at Bender. What does Berger have to do to reach the effectiveness of 6'2" Emma Schaeffer of Bucknell?

Four out of five AU seniors will return to join whatever juniors who become seniors next year. HC counters with one senior Addie Cross next season. Thank God the last BG/AM recruiting class will be juniors and it's a good class.
So HC will have four experienced contributors (Cross, Allen, BBC, Cara) and 7-8 question marks.
Coach Magarity will have recruited the majority of the team next year. It will be interesting to see who has more wins, BN or MM. But only BN will be on the hot seat.

Bucknell started fouling at 53 seconds, down five I believe. I thought it was good to start fouling then, but with AU making their free shows the strategy failed. As much luck as coaching skill dictates the result of the decision to start fouling at that time.
When/where is the WNIT selection show? I hope it's not the last remaining phone booth in America.🙂

We're so proud of this group. They had to overcome a lot the last two years to get back in position to compete for a title this year. And midway through conference play, we were struggling. But our seniors came front and center the last half of the PL regular season, and led us today. Jade Edwards was sensational today with 21 points, playing all 40 minutes. Taylor Brown added 18 points and 6 rebounds in 36 minutes. And Emily Fisher controlled the game today the way she has the last 10 games from the point, with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in 40 minutes, and was named tournament MVP. (That likely came as well because of Fish's 25 points in the semifinal win over BU Thursday.) We out rebounded Bucknell 36-29 and our 3-point defense was again terrific, as Bucknell made just 2 of 12 threes. (They missed some open ones, to be sure. Don't let anyone tell you home court doesn't matter.)
AU's third PL championship in nine seasons under Megan Gebbia, who is one of the great mid-major coaches in the country. We remain incredibly lucky to have her.
