I checked the HC Basketball Schedule site. The record is 3-12. Maybe we should schedule more of the Vincent’s and Regis’.

It took 13 games, but we finally got postgame comments from our head coach. Funny how that happens.

rgds, you love to count the D.3 wins - well, many of us do not Does it make any difference to you that those opponents do not count the game as a loss as it’s an exhibition for them ? I agree with those that say ‘well done guys on a great effort for ur first D.1 win’ ! Regis counted the game as a loss.

If the season ended today, we wouldn’t have a first round PL playoff game!!

A well-earned victory for the team, although I hope they practice free throws this week. Rabs played just 6 minutes and Louth 11. IMO they won't beat any other PL team with so little a contribution from their big men.

Lafayette is the tallest team in the PL (https://kenpom.com/height.php?s=SizeRank) with a very strong 7-footer in Quinn manning the paint.

I think we can be a respectable PL team with a core lineup of RJJ/Luc, Bo, Bubba, Dorsey and Gates.

Was wondering about Dorsey as a shooter given that some of his long range shots have been well off the mark so far. Found this from an article following his commitment to New Mexico:
“Dorsey has really developed into a skilled point guard with great size. The 6’6” guard has a great handle, elite court vision, and some flavor to his game. He has demonstrated his ability to consistently get paint touches and find guys. While he will need to continue to improve his perimeter shooting, his mid-range game is solid. Dorsey will be a great fit for the Lobos next season.”
I love a lot of what he brings, especially defensively, but we may just have to accept that he’s not going to be the answer from the 3 point line.

But can they play us? Not many PL 4s are going to have a lot of success guarding Bubba and Bo. Louth, Rabs, Kenney and Lewis can obviously contribute as well and add a little more size if a matchup dictates that.

I think we can be a respectable PL team with a core lineup of RJJ/Luc, Bo, Bubba, Dorsey and Gates. 1. I do like that one person didn't measure up to Nelson's defensive standard yesterday and lost a bunch of minutes he normally would have been out there (and didn't do too much at the other end either). But, sooner or later, in ballgames, you better put the ball in the basket. So, let's not forget him either. 2. Fuggettabout RJJ until they tell us otherwise. 50/50 he returns before the fans do, and I honestly don't expect the fans back. 3. There will be games where the matchups will dictate Louth or Rabs be out there. Kudos to BN and the staff for figuring out that yesterday was not one of those games, especially where it seemed so certain that exactly the opposite would work better. 4. No one's given much credit to Townsel but he got a lot of minutes down the stretch; they must like his defense as well. 5. Whoever's in there, improvement still needed on the defensive boards, a lot of extended possessions for the Leopards yesterday, especially on long rebounds after missed 3 pointers.

Our opposing 4s would more likely cover Dorsey, as he would likely cover them. Doubt Dorsey has played much at the 4 at either end. Stat of the game- 73% FG in 2nd half

Martindale could help fix that problem if he can get stronger on D. He causes matchup problems when we’re on offense. Just needs to be better at the other end.

Lafayette's approach to Gates was different we have seen so far from any other team and I thought Gates exposed the problem with Quinn.
I didn't see any doubles on Gates - and when Gates started to hit the little mid-range jumper - Quinn was too slow in getting out to guard him.
Good for us, but I would expect a different approach in Easton.
We still need to see Gates handle the double teams - i suspect he will still be seeing it a lot.

It is hard to double Gates when he catches at the free throw line as he did vs their zone

I have not seen enough games to see if he has played many 4s this year.

I suspect that will correct itself. Hopefully soon.

HC needs to learn how to win consistently over the next three weeks before facing the top half of the league almost exclusively in February.

He made had some nice takes to to the hoop yesterday. This can balance his 3 pointers. He is a tough cover at his size and pretty good quickness.

He has also been struggling from downtown lately so hard to keep him out there if he’s not hitting his shots. I suspect that will correct itself. Hopefully soon. His first step offensively is fine, but defensively not so much, and his reaction to the opponent movement appears delayed leaving him very vulnerable and frequently playing from behind. Clearly it can be fixed but needs to be addressed now, and be a priority or he will remain a concern on defense.
