Not like anyone was in doubt about this. Now who takes over the Peacocks?

Shaheen is a special person as well as a terrific coach. He has attributed much of who he is to George Blaney, his coach for some of his time at Seton Hall.

This is awesome As was mentioned earlier, Shaheen (rightly, I assume) attributes much of who he is today to George Blaney. George always preached comporting one's self with CLASS, and it's obvious that Holloway took that to heart. Good for him. I hope he's wildly successful at SHU - on and off the court.

Thad Matta returns to Butler Happy for the man that he's well enough to coach again. A shame what happened to him.

La Salle is hiring 74 year old alum Fran Dunphy as their next coach. I wonder if he still has the 'stache going.

Coach Dunphy has actually been clean shaven for several years. He made a vow to shave it if Temple Star Dionte Christmas got his degree. As for the hire, it sounds like Dunphy, as a concerned LaSalle alum, took it because no one else (most notably Matt Langel and John Gallagher) would. LaSalle has far surpassed Fordham as the worst job in the A-10. When a 44 year old up and coming coach would rather coach a program moving down to D3 that take a mid-major job in a talent rich city, you know your program is in trouble.

Forget the program, the entire school is in trouble. If Langel went to Lasalle and signed the same contract he just signed at Colgate, there’s a decent chance the school would close before the contract expired.

Yes, Forbes currently gives them a financial grade of D - which I think may be as low as they go. It's no wonder Langel wanted no part of the job. He will likely wait until Billy Lange or possibly Steve Donahue gets fired. Or possibly Temple.

How long is Langel’s new contract ? Wonder how large the buyout is ? Do you think he limits his options to Philly only ?

I heard LaSalle was in trouble financially, but didn't realize the situation was that dire. From an athletic standpoint, they need to get the heck out of the farflung and costly A10 where they do not have the resources or facilities to compete, and join the more regional and economical MAAC, who I'm sure would welcome them back in a heartbeat. Wasn't St. Peter's also teetering on thin ice from a financial standpoint prior to their great tournament run?

The SPU endowment is less than $40 Million while the Holy Cross endowment is approximately $1 Billion. St. Peter's made it to the Elite Eight where they lost to the National runner-up after having beat Kentucky and Purdue. HC lost in the play-in round of the PL Tournament at home, to the lower-seeded American U. for the third time this season. Money can't buy happiness, nor can it buy athletic success - unless you're willing to spend some of that money.

New LaSalle coach Fran Dunphy was born October 5, 1948. He will be 74 years old when the college basketball season starts up again. While there may be a few others still coaching that might be older, most all of them are well established at their current jobs having been been employed there for many years. It is extremely rare for someone to take on a complete rebuild at this age. Pitino is the only other recent name that quickly comes to mind for me. The job to get Iona back to respectability within its conference was however probably an easier task than LaSalle.
