One could reasonably argue that Ryan S and Tim S were kind of a special case as they were scholarship athletes on a mostly non-scholarship team

OK time to get all math geek
For starters, Colgate's win over American means HC cannot finish any worse than 8th and will not be traveling to a play-in game. It also means that the team has exceeded the expectations of the other coaches and AD's in the pre season poll
IF HC loses out, they will finish in 8th place unless Lafayette also loses out. If both teams lose out HC finishes in 7th place
----------------------
If HC loses to Colgate and beats Army
- If Lafayette loses at least one game AND Lehigh andLoyola both win at least one game, HC holds 2 way and 3 way tiebreakers and avoids the play in game with a 6th place finish
At this point, work is interfering with bracketology (I started typing this post an hour ago). I'm going to wait until lunch time to figure out what happens if Lehigh or Loyola lose out and get into the mix

If HC loses to Colgate and beats Army (cont)
HC goes to the play in game if - Army also loses to Bucknell AND - Lafayette wins out AND - Lehigh loses out AND - Loyola doesn't lose out
that would leave HC in a two way tie for 6th place with Lehigh and Lehigh holding the tiebreaker based on their split with Colgate. That is the only scenario I can see where HC has to play in if they beat Army. Any other permutations of everyone else's last two games does not send HC to the play in game if they take care of business on Homecoming. A split the other way isn't as rosy. ----------------------------------------------
For the optimists in the crowd, if HC wins out, 4th place and a home quarterfinal game if - Lehigh loses out AND Loyola loses at least one of their last two

We are talking about avoiding a play-in game in the Patriot League. Let that sink in. The last time we had a good season was 15 years ago. I am beginning to think I should find a new winter interest. This is painful.

I can feel your "pain." It is also painful to read posts like this one about an HC fan giving up after 15 years. I, for one, would say that the year HC won the league tournament and an NCAA game was a good one. I hope you can find a rainbow coming through all the dark clouds you see right now.

HC has not participated in the quarterfinals in two years. I really, really don't want to make it 3 in a row. Yup. It is sad and pathetic I'm thinking like this. Of course it was kind of cool to not participate in the quart finals in 2001

I probably don't have a lot of seasons left and am tired of losing and being oh so irrelevant.

Well this is easy
If HC loses to Army, they will be hosting a play in game 7th place if Lafayette loses to Lehigh 8th place if Lafayette beats Lehigh
If HC beats Army, they will get the bye and not have to participate in the play in game 5th place if Loyola loses to American 6th place if Loyola beats American

We control our own destiny as to getting a bye and if we don't get it, we will have a home game? I wouldn't have seen this scenario six weeks ago.

Call me crazy but I don't think hosting a play-in game would be the worst thing.
Here's my rationale:
1) We're certainly not a realistic candidate to sweep through the entire PL tourney for an NCAA berth 2) Thus, I think the experience gained from a home playoff game (much less a WIN!) would be beneficial for this very young team. 3) Going on the road for our only playoff game and possibly getting blown out at Colgate would leave a bitter taste in most mouths...especially if we didn't have that play-in win to look back on.

How many fannies in the Hart seats for a play in ? How much, if any, of a home court advantage would it be ? Would not Colgate play the winner of a play in game ?

How many fannies in the Hart seats for a play in ? How much, if any, of a home court advantage would it be ? We are 3-5 at home vs. 4-5 on the road in league play. Two of those four wins have come against BU and Navy. For whatever reason, seems like playing away from the Hart is a good thing.

Since you asked (sort of) . . . If HC 's only playoff game is on the road, that means they will have to win Saturday. . . 1) If Loyola loses to American giving HC the #5 seed, they will play at Lehigh 2) If Loyola beats American, HC will be the #6 seed playing at #3 - At #3 Navy if Colgate beats Navy AND BU beats Bucknell - At #3 BU if either of those things doesn't happen

one other factor, win and play Thursday lose and play Tuesday Would a few days to rest and get prepared be the better choice?

Absolutely, especially considering the condensed schedule of the past few weeks.

In ancient times, there were lots of tests and papers this week. That is probably still true today. Not that we like to talk about these things, but the extra day off will also allow for a little academic focus
