A good player on a good team in a better conference. Why would he want to come to Holy Cross? Apparently he doesn’t. According to the Delaware board, he is going to either Davidson, Wake Forest or St. Louis.

A good player on a good team in a better conference. Why would he want to come to Holy Cross? Gates and Octave did. Gates was a good player on a mediocre team in a poor conference (Southland)
Octave was a decent reserve on a bad team (Air Force)

Averaged 14 ppg and shot 41% 3PT.
We could use more good shooters.
Presumably has two years of eligibility remaining.

He would be going from the Crusaders to the Crusaders so we have that going for us.

Knee pads. No serious Crusader ever goes without them.

Not to be cynical, but I saw where he was 110% committed to Belmont Abbey back in 2020.....sigh

Baker, a 6-5 wing, has put up very good shooting numbers, exceptional beyond the arc - 55/46/83 last year, 129 3FGA, about 40% of his shots from deep. Similar percentages as a freshman. abbeyathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2021-22Doesn't look like we are pursuing any PG - maybe, as bbc suggested elsewhere, Nelson is comfortable with Dorsey running point.

Surprised he isn't driving up to Hanover while he's here. Maybe he fits in our AI, but not in Dartmouth's.

“Hearing from” a school isn’t the same as the school being anywhere near giving you a roster spot. Having you on campus at this point is a sign of legit interest on the school’s part.

You know that when tweets like this are pushed out, they're looking to woo a potential recruit:

A new vision for HC basketball is needed. No quick fixes in the portal it would seem. The fact that HC cannot recruit in the NE is a real concern. Kit needs to turn this program around his number one priority. HC fans have suffered long enough. We are who we are and record and transfers out tell us all we need to know about this regime.

Yeah, it’s too bad we didn’t get the PL ROY from NE last year! Or have another highly ranked NE kid (top ranked pL recruit in NE) coming in next year! But maybe you were talking about Nebraska since we lost that kid to the local university there?

...and we had three other New England players I can come up with off the top of my head transfer out during this regime.
Of course, saying that opens up another can of worms which we've beaten to death- why did those local kids not stay?

It wasn't homesickness. I believe you should be able to average a bit more in talent from local/regional recruits because you should be able to sell a local mid major better than a distant mid major can sell itself because they have to define themselves in addition to sell themselves.
But if you have already defined yourself locally as hapless, that works in reverse also.

Of course, saying that opens up another can of worms which we've beaten to death- why did those local kids not stay? So many locals transferring out...Perhaps they want to spread their wings and get away..Too much pressure from local friends and relatives to do well? As a retired HS teacher, I saw many kids choose to get away from their local roots and love it, and saw many kids who wanted to stay close to home, decide to move further away...Some mature and see a better place farther away.....Some stay close to home and never really leave...Jared Curry posted a while back, that if the transfer portal was around when he played, he felt the same number of kids would have transferred..

I can see the one year sit out rule being reinstated pdq.
When the fifth Covid year ages out that should reduce portal activity also.

I would be surprised if the one-year sit out rule comes back as it previously existed. I think it’s gone for good, or if it does come back, it will have many more loopholes to give greater flexibility to the player. The old rule seems incongruous in the NIL era.

I suspect the most powerful schools believe the easier transfer rules help them as they can use schools like HC as a minor league system. Remember the Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.
