I saw Frattura post a mid season update Hudl post. This season so far he's 83/104 in terms of completion %. 80%. That's hard to do with zero defenders.
I have no idea what level of competition Sparta plays against. They are 3-2 so far, but 80% completion rate is legit.

They play in Group III (second largest public school enrollment group). Last season Sparta beat second seeded River Dell 42-0 in their state tournament and RD was pretty good.
Massey ranks Sparta (4-2) as #64 in NJ out of 344 ranked high schools (Bergen Catholic Crusaders at 5-1 are still #1, Don Bosco is 4-2 and #2)

Not so much the generic group, the league is not highly competitive as compared to the best. Their league has a power rating of about 75, the league that Bergen Catholic (Sean Woods) and Don Bosco (Jovan George) play in is in the 90's. Don Bosco already has a regular season win against BC who was 6th rated in the country. Could meet again.

Apples and Oranges. The Big North has what some say may be the best high school league in the country. Sparta is not at that level, but they are a good team and well coached. That blowout win over RD was a most impressive one.

Another entertaining video for a light moment is Lacota Dippre's Twitter page and his video from this week's game. We've mentioned the HS competitive level issue but I think this guy's going to play. The first highlight is him rushing from the right DE on a pass play and while engaging the tackle he flashes up and snatches the pass out of the air over his head and then outruns both teams to the end zone for about 70 yds. Several others also quite entertaining.

I tried also but I'm not a member and it didn't seem to give me any way to copy link or files like I can elsewhere. If you Google "Lacota Dippre football" it'll be one of the first 5 returns and the game highlight will show as posted earlier today. There's also a second post of a video from local tv coverage where the two announcers are calling the play which is also very amusing.

It looks to me that Sterling Smith received an offer from Air Force this week, and Brayden Holmes from Furman also this week. Are these post-commit offers sanctioned? It seems odd. Maybe an FBS school can offer "down" to FCS? Holmes made a comment about his amazing game visit this week and offer. I don't blame guys who thank programs for unsolicited offers (Mullaly PWO from Penn State), Smith thanking Air Force, but Holmes' comment about amazing game day visits seems a bit over the top.

Definitely not a great look to be visiting additional schools and tweeting about it after giving a verbal “commitment” to another school.

I am sure the coaches will handle this in the appropriate way for the program
The kid might nor understand the meaning of the word commit ( a red flag) , Furman might be the best school for his desired major, or a menu of other reasons. I would give it 24 hours, talk to the player and his family, and if I wasn’t 100% satisfied with the explanation I would pull the offer.
Meanwhile let’s beat Laffy

The coaches continue to speak with these committed recruits. There are a lot of factors that none of us know about but be assured that Coach Chesney and his staff are ALL over the recruits. They've been on the road touching bases with the commits'.

The problem is that the players and their parents aren't necessarily rational actors. Similarly, if the college wants the kid bad enough, depending on the timing and how many slots they have left, they might be willing to let him dip his foot back in the water with the hopes that they can keep him. Players seem to have the upper hand lately. I think we may see more of this.

That may or may not be relevant in this case but it is something to keep in mind.

Recruiting is a game that these coaches play and to your point partial versus full and mid season tapes that the kid is showing to promote himself make a huge differance. Thus why a kid committs and then takes a trip to another school. Best offer wins the race.

Beyond the scholarship (even at the FCS level) , I think you're going to see kids decommitting when someone comes along with an NIL component along with the schollie.

If I'm a kid who knows that he absolutely, positively wants to play at XYZ U., am I able to sign on the dotted line when I get my offer, or can I only provide my verbal, and then not actually be fully-committed until signing on NLI day?

Nothing is binding until they sign the NLI. And that’s not done until 12/21. Only other component would be if the student applied Early Decision. Which is also binding - e.g., Jack Bowler a few years back.

I guess this is why I only pay half attention to all these verbal commits, not just football, but basketball as well. I Curb My Enthusiasm (tip of the hat to Larry David) until the NLI (as opposed to "NIL") is signed.
The ancient days of "my word is my bond" are gone.
