I thought of this last weekend when I was sitting in a chair at a lakeside beach in NH. I had on an HC tee shirt. A man approached me and said "HC, Class of '70". We had a nice chat. He's a physician from Atlanta who spends his summers in NH. He was not familiar with Crossports, but I encouraged him to check it out as some of his classmates were members. It mad me wonder where else Crossporters might have run into fellow alums.

No excuse for any ‘70 alum not too know about Crossports!!!
PM me his name and I’ll give him a hard time!😉😊
If it is who I think it is, he’s on my Class email distribution list.
The Crossports link has been sent multiple times over the years on my “important links” page as well as on the Class website.

Have run into a few alums on business travel, typically at the airport or on the plane but the most surprising encountered occurred many years ago.
My wife & I ran into an alumna we knew from the class of '86 just walking down the street outside Windsor Castle in England. We knew her and she was serving in the Navy at the time but had no idea she was stationed in the area.

In my position as VP of Medical Affairs for our physician owned medical group in NW Washington State, I was charged with negotiating a special, innovative new contract that would capitate primary care services, give doctors the freedom to manage without intrusive paper work, improve access and decrease red tape for the insured people. They were sending up their physician medical director from Seattle to go head to head with me. All I knew was that he was a new, young guy with a pony tail and I was expecting the worst and getting ready to play hard ball. Well, as it turned out, we got along really well and saw eye to eye about all the key issues. He was innovative and a change agent who had his eye on the things that were important to us. That first day, in casual conversation, he mentioned that he was a Holy Cross grad. No wonder we got along! We went on to forge a dandy partnership that lasted for many years!

St. Simon's Island, connected by a causeway to Brunswick, GA.
We were driving along the main road and turned off to go to our rental. A car followed us and started waving at us. Couldn't figure out why as my driving on this occasion was beyond reproach and our car wasn't giving us any trouble.
Finally decided to pull over. A tall, Morgan Freeman-looking fellow stepped out. Said to me: "I noticed your sticker (an HC one)!. Have never seen one around here, have lived here 40 years!".
The man was Oreon Douglas, one of two black students at HC when Lew Alcindor paid the place a visit. Became a judge down there.

My brother’s classmate and reportedly a great piano player. My brother said he had the longest fingers of anyone he had ever seen.
Supposedly he was brought to HC on a basketball scholarship but never played a minute and guess he didn’t play well but was recruited by some alum and offered sight unseen.

My unexpected encounters with a HC alum, who also happen to have been. classmates both occurred in the Washington DC area.
The first at National Airport on March 7, 1980. I had attended a seminar in Rockville MD. While at the airport waiting to catch the Eastern Shuttle to LaGuardia, in the hallway I ran into a classmate catching a flight to Providence to see the HC vs Iona first round NCAA game that evening. It was Ronnie’s Perry’s last basketball game representing HC. Remember it well, as soon as landed after my connection, I drove to a friend’s house who had cable and ESPN to watch the last half of the game. Much to my dismay.
The next unexpected meetings occurred down the road on the same side of the Potomac. It was in April of 1991 at Mt. Vernon. While my wife was at a conference, I decided to take my two children to see the home of George Washington. In the parking lot, a classmate who lived in Minnesota, recognized me and we spent the tour of the grounds catching on what had transpired since our days on Mt.St.James.
Sad to say, both these gentlemen are no longer with us. Would have been fun to have caught up with them at our most recent reunion.

Not really eligible to comment due to non HC grad status but I will anyway. Rome, 1976, met Marty Halsey on a bus as my wife and I were heading back to our pensione. He was hard to miss. A few years later ran into him again at the Wonder Bar, my Dad's restaurant, and we had a good laugh.

Another DC area connection. Most recently, in 2019, as I was waiting for a Metro North train to arrive on a Sunday morning, I ran into a fellow alum, at the New Haven Train station. He just got off the Amtrak train from Washington and was on his way to Yale to give a lecture and to attend additional events before graduations.

I'll be watching early next week (while proudly sporting HC attire) as I traverse the hallowed grounds at St. Andrews for the 150th Open Championship, and will report in upon my return.
I can't imagine that there won't be other Crusaders in attendance.

I ran into a current football player and his family last New Year’s Eve in a restaurant in Aruba. Great family. Spent more time with them than we did at our own table.

On a more pedestrian note, I've met four alums just in my CT neighborhood (two lawyers, a doctor, and a teacher).

I can't imagine that there won't be other Crusaders in attendance. A follow-up, as promised:
Departing Logan Airport on 7/8, heading to Glasgow via Amsterdam, I encountered a young woman (class of '21) wearing her HC hoodie. We chatted for a few minutes.
During a two-hour layover in Amsterdam, my wife and I were chatting with a gentleman traveling by himself to meet up with other guys for some golf in Scotland. He was from the NYC area, and when he learned that we're from the Boston area, he immediately noted that his daughter would be a freshman at HC in the fall. He also mentioned a number of HC Wall Street names of '76-'78 vintage who are friends of mine.
Mid-week trip to watch a practice round at St. Andrew's, I was wearing an HC pullover, and sitting on the bus to the course when a young family boarded. The mom/wife saw my attire and said "Hey, Holy Cross!". We had a nice visit. They're from Virginia.
Leaving the Open Shop (a surprisingly large temporary building) with a wallet that was much lighter than it was when I entered, a young lady at the exit saw my same pullover, and said, "Hey, Holy Cross! My aunt and uncle went there!"
That was it for the week. I thought I might encounter more, but then again, there aren't many people up in the Highlands!!

Not an HC grad, but a story a few people here may appreciate. Fr. Reedy was the president during my 4 years in college. He used to drive around campus in a forest green Volvo with "HC1843" plates. After our graduation ceremony I was taking a ferry back to LI, one of my roommates and his family happened to be on the boat too. As we were queued up to board the boat, in the next row of cars I saw a forest green Volvo and from the angle I could only see the end of the plate, but it was MA and ended "43". After boarding I found my roommate, told him I suspected Fr. Reedy was on board and we decided to go to the bar on the boat suspecting someone traveling alone may have been there (and if we struck out, we deserved a post-graduation drink anyway), and we found the Father there. We introduced ourselves, he bought the drinks for us, we talked for awhile, then went our separate ways. Later that weekend I was watching what my memory swears was a tight Knicks-Heat playoff game, but I don't believe that to be the case now (was probably just another team's game) when the phone rang with about 2 minutes left. I hear my mother say "Yes, he is here" and I was immediately upset I was about to have the game interrupted, until I heard my mother say "Thank you father." Perhaps recognizing the gravitas of the game that was on, he kept the conversation short, invited me out to dinner later that week and told me he had invited my roommate and one other grad who lived nearby. Fast forward a few days later, we go to meet him for dinner, we walked in on time, but since he was seated at the bar waiting for us, I felt compelled to apologize for making him wait. He responded "Its never a wait when you are in a bar"...a line I've since used myself in his honor. We had a nice dinner, I recall him telling us the story that he had been in the city for an alumni function earlier in the week and he was happy to report to the alums that he had the pleasure of buying two recent grads their first post-grad drink. In my 4 years at HC, I never had the pleasure of meeting him, in the 4 days following graduation I had a drink and a meal with him.

It sure sounds like you graduated from HC , so what does your very first phrase mean, “not an HC grad?”
Forget it. Having re-read it you mean Fr. Reedy was not an HC grad. DUH!

You sniffed me out, it was all just an elaborate ruse to get Fr. Reedy to buy us a beer on the ferry and a steak and a beer a few nights later...we actually had no affiliation with HC! haha

Anytime I go away, which is several times a year, I’ll wear some HC garb. Saratoga trips will always bring a hello from a HC grad, and at least half my trips to Vegas will do the same (says something about HC grads!) Perhaps the most interesting was going to the UCF hoop game over 15 years ago. I met up and had dinner with Chu Chu, and when we sat at the sparsely attended game, we started chatting with a gent who was cardiologist from the area and was a HC grad. It turns out, he was my father’s cardiologist, who lived in Daytona, and neither knew of the HC connection. A year or so later, my dad died at 97, and the doc sent us a nice note about my dad and our meeting at UCF.
