Well we received $500k so I suppose we can pay them with a thank you and a smile and offer them a return game at Fitton-but I like the pay games so maybe not

That seems rather high to me for a MAC team to be shelling out. I would have expected something closer to $350K or in that range.

Whatever. It must be frustrating for UB to pay out big bucks to get kicked in the face. Wish them much success for the remainder of the season.

Up 14-0 and then 21-7 and even when we tied at 21 they came back to go ahead 28-21 within about 30 seconds, they had to think this game was in the bag. Indeed, we were chasing them pretty much the entire game.
They probably felt like we did after the 1st Merrimack game - one that should have been a gimme but just never panned out.
Like a minority opinion expressed here, I think UB will surprise people after their 0-2 start. They have some real talent but with all their "portal patrons," they need to gel and which as Coach Chesney said in an interview, that was the one advantage we had over them - a lot of guys who've played together for multiple years (synergy?).

So I‘ll more brief since we are squarely in game week vs Yale and have them with these comments in mind. Offense - for those that didn’t see Sluka was just awarded his 3rd reputable national offensive player of the week (1 Stats Perform 2 Bluebloods and 3 CFB Network). One of the grittiest and most competitive performances I’ve ever seen by a QB. His will to win is unmatched. Can still improve with keeping his eyes downfield (I counted 3 missed/open receivers one being Lane who was wide open in the middle of the field when Matt was scrambling. He may look like Superman but no one is perfect and he can still improve which is scary. RB - good to see Fuller getting more Carries this year instead of just goal line to save hits on Oliver. Sluka carried the ball a ton against Yale last year so hopefully Oliver and Fuller can get it going. WR - just unreal. I don’t think we had one bad drop. Ayir maybe one on a throw that was low but other than that everything that hit their hands they caught. OL/TE - a very solid game vs a very talented Buffalo front. Buffalo’s 2 DT’s are the best we will see all year (especially 95 Williams will play on Sunday’s) Buffalo’s MLB Patterson might also be the best we face all year. Defense DE - Kuz and Reich had a very good game especially against the run. Both made a couple nice plays against very good O tackles. Our other D-lineman were a bit more exposed without the 5th year brute strength of Kuz and Reich. They never quit and Springer was still fighting his ass off on the last drive. LB - Another good game by Dobbs and Liam. Dobbs all over the place. We need to find ways to get Liam freed up more on pass rush. That’s what still lacking but again the Buffalo O-line especially on the edges were very very good (transfers from Rutgers and San Diego St) DB - This is the area where the talent gap was most noticeable. Both in run fits and pass coverage. John Smith was probably the only guy with the talent to really match up against those Buffalo WR’s and RB’s in space. The Buffalo receiver Marshall is a DUDE (started at Louisville will also play on Sundays) Devin Haskins had a great 2nd half after giving up a TD in the 1st quarter and battling through a calf cramp. His length really helped him recover on a couple plays. IMO, we really need Terrell Prince back against the run which should help this week. Our 5 best athletes/players in the D-backfield are Smith, Haskins, Spence, Reynolds and Prince. I expect some version of those 5 to be on the field as much as possible going forward with Argys, Burns and Jarmo subbing when necessary. Also a bit surprised Kam Molten hasn’t got more of a shot on passing downs given the struggles so far.
Summary: That Buffalo team was NOT UCONN. They were the most talented team we’ve played up and down since SDSU, they just don’t have the culture yet. I’m rooting for them as all reports were they were a classy group from the coaches to the players. YALE game is always close. This game this week will tell us as much if not more than the game vs Buffalo.

I was hoping we’d land an FBS game for 2024 prior to beating Buffalo. Assume it will be tougher to find a willing opponent now.
The future FBS games we reportedly have under contract:
9/9/23 at BC 8/30/25 at Northern Illinois 9/12/26 at Miami (OH)
2024 does look pretty tough even without an FBS game as we have URI, Yale and UNH on tap. We’re also supposed to play Harvard every year through 2025 but the future Harvard games are not on the future schedules website.

Let's get UVA or Duke on the schedule We have players, grads and friends that might help make it happen Neither looks like a great fit for 2024. UVA already has an FCS game (Richmond) and we don’t seem to have a mutual open date early in the season with Duke. At least one of us has a game each of the first four weeks of the season (8/31-9/21). Maybe 9/28 but guessing conference play will be a problem then.

We should give BC a chance for a rematch in 2024 after Sluka and Coker have graduated. Although I hope they come back for a ninth semester in the fall of 2024 and re-write the HC career record book.

I now feel far differently about an FBS game than I did just a few years back. Getting sn FBS opponent where HC has a fighting chance is the key. With the guys we now have...bring 'em on!

I do like some historic matchups which can bolster attendance and perhaps our payout as well (within reason). I'd love to see Army on the schedule. I don't mind the BC matchup every so often as long as we get paid! I think the MAC opponents are a good target for us, again, as long as the payout is worth our trouble. I wouldn't mind dipping our toes into the American to play some of those opponents, some of whom might have a bit more name recognition than Buffalo (my high school students didn't know that the Bulls were even FBS). If we were playing the USF Bulls, they might know that name.

FBS payouts should be taken advantage of..... BC once every four years, Army, Navy, Air Force, Tulane, Rice, Vanderbilt, MAC conference, San Diego State, Duke, Wake Forest, Northwestern, SMU, Notre Dame - a lot of good name schools with good alumni locations. It would be great if we played BC every four years, so our players could experience the old rivalry and tradition.

ND will never play HC in football. Why should they do so? In its long & glorious history has ND ever played a school designated 1AA or FCS? Outside of BC which Roman Catholic colleges have played ND? Perhaps St. Mary's? It has to do with maintaining its brand.

Not sure it has been mentioned, but PATRICK HAUGHNEY (#95) did a solid job as holder, especially on the FG that gave HC the lead.

Not sure it has been mentioned, but PATRICK HAUGHNEY (#95) did a solid job as holder, especially on the FG the grave HC the lead. And especially after it appeared that Ng's two misses (one PAT & one FG) at Merrimack were largely a result of a faulty set-up process - whether that be re: the snap or the hold.
