spectrumnews1.com/ma/worcester/news/2022/09/20/improved-passing-attack-key-to-holy-cross--strong-startImproved passing attack key to Holy Cross' strong start to seasonWORCESTER, Mass. - At 3-0, the Holy Cross football team is setting the stage for one of the biggest seasons on Mount Saint James in recent memory. One of the keys to the undefeated start by the Crusaders is the improvement in their passing attack. Quarterback Matt Sluka was 16/22 for 249 yards in the past weekend's homecoming win over New England rival Yale. 96 of those yards were to All-America wide receiver Jalen Coker who was awarded the Johnny Turco Memorial trophy as the outstanding player in the homecoming game. The two Crusader standouts said a productive offseason has led to this early season success. "I think it's paying off immensely," Coker said. "Especially just going out there and just being confident. Having, like just knowing that we just have that chemistry already rolling and it's just everything just going so well. So we just got to keep hammering that and just keep doing it." "I think I started over the summer, you know, working out with these guys," Sluka said. "We all lived up here and so being able to work out with them and spend time with them is huge. And I think it really just goes down to me getting a little older. "You know understanding the play book a little more, understanding how to read some coverages and just connecting. You know we have a great time in practice, just working on routes with different combinations and so I think it pays off." Holy Cross looks to continue their winning streak as the Crusaders travel to Colgate on Saturday.

spectrumnews1.com/ma/worcester/news/2022/09/19/holy-cross-football-looking-to-continue-strong-start-to-seasonHoly Cross football looking to continue strong start to season as in-conference play startsWORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross football team's win over Yale this past weekend was impressive. The Crusaders dominated all phases of the game en route to a 38-14 homecoming weekend victory. The players enjoyed it for a short time, but now they're right back to work on their next opponent, Patriot League rival Colgate. The team moves on quickly from both wins and losses and keeps the marching orders of head coach Bob Chesney, "get better, whether you win or lose." "They're just such fierce competitors," Chesney said. "And I look at their bodies and physically what they've done, mentally what they've done and then you know just overall psychologically what they've done together, with each other and just really built this thing. "We test them and fire as much as we can, we put them in many pressure situations and try to see who's going to break." "As soon as Monday comes around, it's over with and we got to move on our next opponent," wide receiver Jalen Coker said. "Going out there and just being confident having like, just knowing that we just have that chemistry already rolling. "And it's just everything's just going so well, so we just got to keep hammering that and just keep doing it." The Crusaders are on the road in Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Colgate Saturday at 1 p.m. Their next home game is October 8 vs. Bucknell at Polar Park.

"Holy Cross has not earned a win in Hamilton since the 2010 season." That is bulletin board material if ever I saw it!
Check out the article on Justin Coker on the HC website. It will make every Crusader proud! He is a credit to his family (and that includes his football teammates).

Apparently, defense is Colgate's calling card. A good stout defense can keep a team in a game. In a close game anything can happen. Traditionally, Colgate has been tough at home. If Colgate can keep HC from scoring fewer than 24 points then all bets are off. Of course we anticipate HC's great "D" will dominate. Expect HC's overall talent & depth to prevail but it might be another nail biter. GoCrossGo

You said "If Colgate can keep HC from scoring fewer than 24 points then all bets are off." I am guessing you meant keep HC from scoring MORE than 24, no?

Father played for Coach Duffner at Maryland Another recognizable name on the Colgate roster. #2 Josh Szott. His father Dave had a long career in the NFL.
