If Eddie Folgler ever wants another client, UM will not have to pay the 25 large, and I'm near certain the fee will be waved, since these arrangements are usually contingent upon a hiring contract, and there wasn't an official contract signed.

Some are speculating that Kelsey has a better job than Umass lined up. The rumor is that Chris Mack at Xavier will take the Indiana job once X is out of the tourney. Adds some reasoning why things have been rather quite on the Indiana job search. Kelsey will then return to Xavier (he was an assistant there to Prosser) to replace Mack. We might now if this has any credence in the next few days. Would at least seem plausible at this point. It is likely moot at this point, but Kelsey was not an assistant at Xavier. Wrong. Kelsey was associate HC at X from '09-'12. Last stop before Winthrop.

Winthrop took him back. If he bolts for Xavier or anywhere else after all that, he really looks bad.
Of course, that doesn't mean it won't happen...

Mike Boynton Jr. gets the job at Oklahoma State. A year ago at this time he was an assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin.
hchoops may remember Boynton, who played his high school ball at Bishop Laughlin.

Warms my heart that they hired this no-name guy over insufferable blowhard Doug Gottlieb, who was trying to force the AD's hand through a public campaign, while he was in the midst of being let go by CBS.

He never resigned, so technically was not rehired but still under contract at Winthrop. Because he is not being rehired, Winthrop is not part of the buyout, just Kelsey. He needs to stay there two years. Not sure we'd go after him personal, certainly not the 1 Million. At this point hope the X job opens up and he goes, then we can recoup some of the buyout money.

I have read reports that Kelsey may never have signed an official binding contract with UMass. There was supposedly a signed Memorandum of Understanding which outlined general expected contract items. This type of document is not usually considered legally binding. If this is the case, it will be interesting to see what, if anything, transpires.

Alford: "100% not going to Indiana"

Yes, I doubt that Kelsey has to pay Umass back anything.
I was talking about Winthrop and Kelsey, not UMass and Kelsey. Kelsey can't go back to Winthrop and a week later take the job at Xavier without there being some ramifications. You can't let a guy break his contract TWICE.
Update: I doubt Mack is going anywhere now that Indiana filled its job. It's hard to make the argument that Georgetown is a better job going forward than Xavier.

Archie Miller to Indiana.
A much better hire than Alford, who has bounced around from job to job without really doing all that much. I couldn't believe how disorganized his UCLA team was last night, losing to a Kentucky team that was just slightly less disorganized themselves.

Yes, I knew that, but was responding to the statement that "Kelsey will then return to Xavier ( he was an assistant there to Prosser) to replace Mack. " Should have been clearer. Meant that he had not coached under Xavier under Prosser. Went on to mention that he started his D1 coaching career at Wake under Prosser.

The A-10 is really taking some hits these last two weeks with regards to coaches. With Archie Miller going to Indiana, the perennial top two programs (VCU and Dayton) will have lost coaches to P5 schools just this week. Two of the teams that finished at the bottom of the league this past season fired their coaches some two weeks ago and are not having an easy time getting replacements. The coach of the 2017 A-10 Tournament Champion (URI) is being mentioned for one of the premier northeast college jobs (Georgetown). There was already going to be a lot of top player turnover in the league and now you can add coaching turnover. The A-10 will very much be a conference in transition next season.

VCU made a fine hire when Shaka left. Likely they will do a good job again. Hopefully Dayton also.

Before that he was a VCU assistant and, before that, he was a long-time assistant and then head coach at Randolph-Macon, where Nathan Davis coached before moving to Bucknell. Rhoades played at Lebanon Valley for Pat Flannery when that team won the D3 national championship just before Flannery moved to Bucknell. Rhoades was D3 POY his senior year. Also In Rhoades early coaching days at Randolph Macon, one of the players he coached was Nathan Davis. Small world.

Had Nathan Davis interviewed anywhere or popped up in coaching searches? I don't think so, but you never know. He is very happy where he is, so I doubt he would approach another school after only two years on the job. But of course someone could contact him. Given that he has only had one recruiting class so far, it's a little early to evaluate his overall ability.

Seems like a good hire for Qpac He is highly thought of. He has had other offers. At 34 and associate head coach under Jay Wright, he must believe he has a good chance to win there.
