Tom Crean out at Indiana after nine seasons. Last season COY, to the dance 4 of 9 seasons. AD: Ultimately we need more consistency With how big basketball is in Indiana and the resources of IU for basketball, I think its fair that they expect better results than that. They should at least be in the tournament every year at an Iowa State like level.

AD: Ultimately we need more consistency With how big basketball is in Indiana and the resources of IU for basketball, I think its fair that they expect better results than that. They should at least be in the tournament every year at an Iowa State like level. Probably fairer to say 4 of 6 seasons in the Dance. After the Kelvin Sampson debacle, no coach could have got them there the first few years. Inherited a team with no returning players.

Either one would improve them, but does the program have the proper administrative support ?

UM is gonna pay 800-900K. Just opened new training facility next to Mullins. Bamford the AD is a hoop guy/fan. Chancellor is a sports fan. Rank & File professors support hoops, hate $ pit D1 FB.

Wonder if IU will break the bank in an attempt to lure Brad Stevens back to his home state? They might try to do this but seems like it is very unlikely Stevens would leave the Celtics now. He's been successful, has a young team, and they have the a locked in top 4 pick from the Nets in this year's draft

Mike Hopkins is heading to Washington. So much for being Boeheim's successor.

Boeheim must be staying for a while, or he now cannot choose his successor

Mike Hopkins is heading to Washington. So much for being Boeheim's successor. A bit of an expensive risk since he has never been a head coach nor coached any defense beyond the 2-3

He will have to wait until/if he gets the right players. Romar did not recruit for the 2-3

How many of these "coach in waiting" setups work out?
Seems to me that one of two scenarios happen: First one: program continues to flourish and the guy who's supposed to step down wants to keep it going....Second one: The program starts to slide; or, better still, falls off a cliff. The powers that be want to get rid of the long time coach and want a fresh approach, so the coach-in-waiting gets thrown under the bus too.
And if I was Washington, I'd have a very, very steep buyout for Hopkins should his next place of employment be Syracuse.
