Getting doubled up at home at the half to winless Lowell. Embarrassment. 8-4 Lowell if anyone cares

Gutsy W. Kids never gave up.. credit to Coach JL .. they are still plying hard. A win against Colgate would be a nice finish to the season…

It’s obvious to an educated eye, that The team improved over the year. The O advanced much further than the D. Goalie play has been terrific. Face off group and D need better players. He has one full class of recruits. I doubt the team players are receiving Alston Awards, NIL $ or significant scholarship dollars that are being paid to those at the B10 and ACC. If, and it’s an if, he can produce a winner with the tools available at the College, which can be done given the depth of talented players that have interest in playing D1 lax with their families committed to full pay, that will be seen over the next few seasons. But for one night, and one game, good for the team and the Staff.

And it takes $’s to build a stronger roster. We match the lax schollie dollars of the top PL schools, with this staff, we’ll be competitive for PL championships.

One of Dean Danonno goals was no.3 this morning on ESPN’s top 10 plays for Tuesday - another nice positive after last nights result

I respectfully disagree with both of the above posters (mostly). I would say the woes of this years' team are largely due to coaching, tone, and leadership. I would say 80% coaching, 20% roster talent. The areas where play is most "coached" or choreographed is clearing and man-up; we are among the worst in the country in these areas (clearing at .780 and man-up at .262). These areas' results reflect scheme not talent. Looking at 3Q results which should reflect coaching adjustments made at halftime, we have scored 21 goals and given up 42: our worst quarter This team is admittedly at a talent disadvantage to the top of the PL (Army, Loyola, BU) and Syracuse, all fully funded programs. I think we are in the ballpark with Lafayette, PC, Bucknell, Dartmouth, Merrimack, Colgate etc.. I think we have more talent than Mercer and UML. If I was handicapping our schedule preseason I would have had the most competitive games being against: PC, Merrimack, Dartmouth, Lafayette, Bucknell, and Lehigh. I would have predicted between 1 and 3 wins against these teams with games being mostly 1 or 2 goals margins. We lost all 6. We lost by a combined 38 goals (6.3 per games) - blowouts. Losing to these teams by 1 or 2 might accurately reflect talent disparities. Getting blown out is coaching IMO.

We were picked dead last by a wide margin in the pre-season PL poll so I didn’t expect any wins or close losses in league play.
Agree we have more talent than UML.

Providence is fully funded according to the former head coach in an interview I did.

Saderlax3 - You say that HC has more talent than Mercer. Why does a team with “more talent” (HC) have 25 turnovers against a team with “less talent” (Mercer)? Mercer had 13 TOs that game, 12 fewer than HC. So maybe HC has more talent … except when it comes to catching, throwing, and cradling? Only 4 of HC’s TOs v. Mercer were on failed clears. That means the more talented team turned the ball over on 21 of its 32 possessions in the offensive end. Either way - nice win yesterday. Showed guts.

Saderlax3 - also consider that the man up unit at Maryland 2015-2020 (when Reppert was the offensive coordinator) averaged .445 over those 6 years. Best year was .591 and worst was .331.
His best year would have him 3rd nationally this year. His average would have him 23rd (right next to Lehigh).
I doubt he forgot the Xs and Os when he got to Worcester. I also think he had great talent at UMD.
Maybe it turns out he’s not a great head coach. Maybe he is, and he just needs better talent. Maybe it’s going to take a while to adjust to coaching with HC-level talent … it’s a different game when you don’t have a roster full of 4 and 5 star recruits. I don’t know the answer. But I think it’s hard to square the above with your perspective.

Reppert had the NATIONAL player of the year in 2017 (Rambo was on the team from 2014-2017) and 2021 (Bernhardt was on the team from 2017-2021) so those EMO numbers are very inflated.

Wait … are you saying Reppert’s record would be better if HC had Bernhardt and Rambo on its roster … at least the man-up numbers?
Either way, I agree!
And, by the way, MD was playing the best defenses in the country … not Merrimack and Mercer. Coaching top talent to compete against top talent. Given that fact, I’m not sure it’s such a strong argument to say the numbers are inflated. If he had Rambo and Bernhardt and was competing against HC’s schedule … the argument would be stronger.
Note, I’m not saying Reppert is the best head coach out there … just that it’s kind of hard to know given the talent on the roster relative to the talent on opponents’ rosters (see my earlier comment re 25 TOs v Mercer). Or consider the 31 TOs v Dartmouth along with minus 14 on faceoffs. No team can win when they never have the ball to begin with or when they throw it away the vast majority of times they get it … it doesn’t matter who the coach is.

Just saying having two of the best players in the HISTORY of the sport on the same team in 2017, is pretty insane. Bernhardt last I knew was still on the Falcons roster as a WR. I think anyone would have a pretty decent man-up offense with those two elite players leading the attack. Remember Maryland head coach John Tillman which was the OC on the Navy squad that went to the NCAA final in 2004.

And would the converse also be true … that anyone would have struggles on their man-up unit if they had lesser talent compared to their opponents?
To be clear, I am not trying to trash the players on this team. There is some talent and I respect the effort. They stuck it out through some very challenging times … Covid shortened season in 2020, canceled season after 6 games in 2021. Coaching changes and long periods of coaching uncertainty. They are true student athletes and should be commended. But the numbers are the numbers … the TOs (including clears) and the faceoffs especially, killed this team … and that’s a talent issue.

I thought they were woefully unprepared against Providence in the only game I saw them in person. They were making 50-60 yard clear passes I only see made at the D-3 women's level when a team has no idea how to set up a clear and they just chuck the ball up the field hoping a team mate can get it.

I am not sure TOs are as unambiguously a 'talent issue" as you say. www.ncaa.com/stats/lacrosse-men/d1/current/team/559We are better than Dartmouth (who killed us), worse than UML (win) and about the same at Lehigh (big loss). You are using the wrong metric to judge talent.
