Yankees lost to the Nats, 2-1. This was their ninth straight loss; the longest streak since 1982. Clyde King was the manager.

Who else is playing Immaculate Grid each day? Been having a lot of fun with this the last month. I have been. It is fun. I do well with identifying players by team with big stat numbers, HOF, etc; not as well with identifying players with multiple teams If the Sox lose to Houston again tonight, I am going to give up on them once more.

Ohtani has a torn UCL. And Trout is on IL So that bumps Ohtani back to Judge money (9/360), not that there's anything wrong w/that?

Nightmare scenario for Angels, and likely Ohtani as well (not that I'm crying for either as a Yankee fan). Angels had to show they were going "all in" at the deadline to maintain a good chance to resign Ohtani when he hits free agency this winter, so they add to their flawed team rather than trade him for a king's ransom. The team has slipped and lost more games. Trout briefly came back for one game and then immediately returned to the IL. Ohtani will almost certainly need his second Tommy John surgery (5.5 years later), meaning he definitely won't pitch next season, and likely would miss at least half of that season.
If you're a team looking to sign Ohtani, sure he's a star, but you'd only be getting half a season of a DH next year at best. Maybe one day he returns to RF. He definitely won't pitch next year, and he probably will have some hiccups and potential regression as a pitcher for the foreseeable future. He's 29 years old. As a hitter, he's not the best in the league although he's up there. As a pitcher, he's good but not the best. His value is obviously the uncommon combination in that he's both of those players in one. If the pitching element is removed, he's not worth the jumbo deal he was headed for last week.

I guess that he will undergo the most thorough physical in the history of baseball before someone pays him his king's ransom.

Ken Rosenthal claims that Ohtani is still worth a $500 mm or more contract

That article reads like it was written by Ohtani's agent. It completely minimizes the injury risk, because it puts the majority of the value on his offense (with pitching being a potential, unknown bonus).

Can you imagine Ohtani’s value in a world without the designated hitter?

Ohtani still playing with torn UCL. DH last night. 1-2 with a double and 3 walks against the Mets.

Now the Angels said that Ohtani will get a second opinion before deciding on Tommy John surgery.

Ken Rosenthal claims that Ohtani is still worth a $500 mm or more contract Someone might pay it. Whether he’s worth it is another question. But no one said sports contracts were rational anymore.
