There is a third classmate joining Simone and Janie in the Class of 2027. According to City of Basketball Love as well as Hannah’s twitter account, she is a Holy Cross commit. Welcome to Mt. St. James Hannah! Hannah Griffin (2023 | Gwynedd Mercy) The Monarchs finished as the runner-ups in the AACA and the fourth seed in District 1, with Griffin — a 5-7 point guard and Holy Cross commit — leading the way. The daughter of St. Joe’s coach Cindy Griffin, Hannah is a scoring point guard who likes the one-dribble pull-up, though she’s crafty in the ways she gets to the rim, and she can finish through contact. www.cityofbasketballlove.com/news_article/show/1263851Very nice to get a child of a college D1 basketball coach. Hannah also is a cousin of the new Bucknell Men’s Basketball Coach, John Griffin III.

I like this - Owise too much pressure on Flanagan as the only legit PG with ball handling skills This was a very quiet recruiting job as HC13 did not have it

Honestly thought it might come from the portal though. Scrolling through her Twitter, she is one of those kids who never listed offers, unfortunately, very common on the women's side.

I think our coaches have a newfound respect for Phila hoops with the great year that Flanagan had

Would have to believe pres VR gave the ok on this 14th scholarship on next years roster - maybe with the coaches commitment to recruit only 2 in the next cycle to get back to 13

Well, they have carried 14 before, although it's been a while. Generally, I think BG & AM preferred 12/13 as it made chemistry issues a bit easier. It will make for an interesting pre-season. I note that after taking a quick sample of MM's roster at UNH, she often had 13/14 & even 15 on her rosters.

With the addition of Hannah in the Class of 2027, is Orlagh Gormley (HS Class of 2024) still being considered?
Or will the focus for the Class of 2028 be solely on Post players?

They certainly should be looking to add at least one big. After watching them struggle against the press, I'd suggest that any good ball handlers at still welcome. Personally, I think their biggest priority for this class may be a player who can create their own scoring opportunities and or shot the 3. Need to replace BPC, granted, we still need to see if which of the underclasswomen are going to step up. Foreman was a very pleasant surprise, will Munt emerge?

Re: Munt. I was surprised we did not see more from her last year. Do you know if she was hampered by any minor injuries, or was it simply a "sophomore slump?"

Re: Munt. I was surprised we did not see more from her last year. Do you know if she was hampered by any minor injuries, or was it simply a "sophomore slump?" I also thought that she would be a key player for us but she has not so far; good size, nice pull up jump shot and a good rebounder. She wasn't that effective as a freshman, either so she had little from which to slump.

I believe that Grace had a series of injuries, foot/shoulder, that limited her ability to practice. Once reasonably healthy, the emergence of Foreman limited her playing time. Going to be very interesting camp this coming season as HC has a bottleneck of players with a similar skill set - Munt, Donnelly, Foreman Backmann & Huber looking for minutes.

She didn't do much but was the best performing (most fluid appearing on the floor?) of three underwhelming freshmen that made one anticipate solid contribution as a sophomore after four seniors left. Next season it looks like "Who wants it most" or, who has the best health.

So hard to judge, their freshman year, MM clearly made a decision to rely heavily on the Seniors & Sophs + Cross. In retrospect, I was surprised as several of the then seniors also had up and down years leading into their final season (but it was clearly the right move). Munt had some quality mins, but was set back by some injuries in the latter part of her first year season & the better part of this year. The one thing we did learn about the players this season is that all the returning kids who played are good to very good on defense. It strikes me, if you are a guard and want to get on the floor, you need to improve your 3 pt shooting. If you're a big and are looking to take mins from Berger & Allen, really need to improve your conditioning and show you can finish around the basket. I think most of us would agree they over-achieved the past 2 seasons, I look forward to see how they do this coming season.

Will they be the pre season favorite ? If so, it may be difficult to over achieve.

Could be, but if I had to guess, BosU will be again the pre-season favorite. In any case, I think the top 3, in no particular order would be HC, BosU & Lehigh.

It will be nice to see HC as the pre-season favorite and I think we will be. Followed by Colgate, BU, and Lehigh. BU is losing a lot with Johnson, Pina, and Durant leaving. And now Davenport is in the portal. Still a long way off but fun to speculate. There is no team heading into next year that is far and above the rest of the field talent-wise the way Boston was heading into this last season. But if we're guessing here, I'd say HC is that favorite team for next season.

Wonder who will be Pre Season Player of the year next fall? Bronagh or Caitlin as leading candidates?

Wonder who will be Pre Season Player of the year next fall? Bronagh or Caitlin as leading candidates? Great question. Can you remember a season where it was this wide open? Weimar and BPC for sure. Therien at Loyola? Maybe Andrews at Lafayette?

After giving it more thought, you are probably right, HC will be the preseason pick, as much as because they have nearly their whole team back. I have been fooled to often by Colgate to believe they will be there in the end. Navy may surprise as they too have most of their team back. I honestly don't see anyone running away with the season title as BU did last season. I suspect the top 4/5's records are going to be closer.

At tonight’s zoom with the coaches, Magarity said they have 2 recruits and a 3rd who is a walk-on - surprised me to hear that Griifin is a preferred walk-on - maybe her mother has some sort of financial aid for her kids written into her contract at St. Joes

Believe we have discussed it before, the Jesuit Colleges and Universities have an articulation agreement regarding tuition for children and dependents, except for Georgetown that does not participate. Since St. Joe’s is a Jesuit University, her tuition should be covered at Holy Cross.
Definitely a win-win regarding filling a roster spot for Coach Magarity, and a win-win for Coach Griffin and her family.
