Today is a big day for supporting athletics, and in my opinion it is important for us to make a statement for the basketball program. It has been over a decade since we had a consistent winner, but that is about to change. I am convinced our financial support will help accelerate that process.
While giving days don’t always come at the right time, especially after tax payments, if you can support any of the programs, today would be a great day to consider supporting basketball.
I believe the goals they set for today are ambitious, but they are achievable.
Time to start winning✝️✝️🏀🏀🏀

In my opinion, there is one, and only one difference between making a gift this weekend and making a gift at the end of June
Doug Baker '81 has pledged to give $10,000 if 500 people donate to the CAF this weekend, $20,000 and 1000 people donate this weekend, and $30,000 if 1500 people donate this weekend
Giving now instead of procrastinating can help the athletic department access this extra pool of cash

I have always focused more on the number who give rather than the average amount, since every gift counts, no matter how large or small.

Hopefully the 1970ers didn’t tap out with the earlier “Power of Purple” when we broke our set goal.
If they don’t donate, it won’t be because they didn’t know.
How about the other classes?
Phreek, I sssume you hit up your classmates.
Let’s put our financial support behind new guy Paulsen and, of course, many other deserving sports on Mt. St. James.
Publicly acknowledging that I donated to men’s basketball after a 2 year hiatus. Trying to send a not so subliminal message that I support the change in basketball leadership.

Agree with all on the importance of giving, which I did. That said, the email carpet bombing is a tad excessive.

Already have 1500 donors on day 1 of this 2 day event. They maxed out the $30,000 incentive pledge

I'm an old school type, so I sent in a check (split amongst men's lax, men's hoops and football) earlier this week. That way the CAF avoids the processing fee. Looks like a successful campaign. Onward!

I’ll bet they will receive some late contributions to lift the number up to the $1 mill mark

Onward! With checks to be processed, Hopefully the CAF will top the 1 million dollar amount received this weekend.. Especially if Princeton Crusader sent the check that will get the Fund to top that amount.😁

The results are ok for participation unless the target was too low.
Given how the past decade-plus has gone with hoops, the participation and donation results were reasonable, but I heard they were well below the goals set for the day. Anxious to see the final numbers for football and both m/w basketball.

The "official" numbers on the website are obviously low and here's how I know.
While I saw that Crucis and other posters here who I know are listed as donors, I donated early to 3 different sports and got email confirmations back (no, I didn't send checks) and also got confirmation that in 2 sports my gifts were "in honor of" players and former players that I know and the third was for football "in memory of" my deceased Classmates who played football. And, no, my gifts were not large enough for them to name a building after me or install permanent lights on Fitton Field.
I was told that my early gifts would "count" toward the actual giving day.
Then, yesterday, one of the sports that I hadn't donated to in 2-3 years, men's basketball, I felt a twinge of guilt having met DP, so I donated money to men's basketball. Again, not enough to knock anyone's socks off but enough for TPTB to know I am supporting the team not only with season tickets but financially (think "widow's mite"). I again got email confirmation of my gift.
But, BIG BUT, when going to the website, it does not show me as having donated either under my Class or as a supporter of any of the 4 sports. I have an inquiry to the staff as to why this is when we have already had personal email exchanges thanking me for my support and my credit card was charged.
So, beyond late checks, this "Give Campus" platform doesn't seem to function very well.

I can confirm the platform missed my contribution as under my class year as well. I sent an email to the email addressed for inquiry regarding the contributions, but I have yet to receive a reply.
There is a a change to the drop down boxes on the page that is needed to ensure class year is not missed when giving through that platform.

Probably throwing gasoline on the embers here but for the PC Zoom with Kit, Maureen and Dave a week or so ago, I only heard about it via Crossports and when I contacted the HC staffer about whether, despite my donations, I was no longer in the PC as I had not gotten any notice about the webinar event. Here's a redacted version of my email exchange (emphasis mine):
I know 45 and I have spoken on a number of occasions when he or I get an email and the other doesn't even if we both should. It happens for both athletic and non-athletic events. I'm not sure who is in charge but any investment in the communications system might pay for itself.

IIRC, the goal for the CAF for the current fiscal year (2023) is $2.5 million. The $1 million raised on Athletics Giving Day will be a big chunk of that, but I believe the larger portion of the $ comes from gifts which often arrive either near the end of the individual tax year, or the end of College's fiscal year. Not all that unlike the donations in the collection boxes on church holy days.
On certain reunion year gifts, e.g., a 55th reunion year, the College includes gifts made during the 51st, 52nd, 53rd, and 54th post-commencement years, in the totals for the 55th.

Believe Phreek is correct as that is how it works for the 50th.
As a possible explanation for my situation, perhaps my "dedicated" donations on the early day had to be manually inputted but the basketball donation on the day of had no such dedication. Let's just say, Holy Cross' computer system doesn't have cutting edge AI capabilities.

Let's just say, Holy Cross' computer system doesn't have cutting edge AI capabilities. If you designated a contribution for a specific sport, you should have immediately received an automated thank you acknowledgment from a student playing that sport. I believe this is the first year for student acknowledgements. Men's basketball was Gates, women's basketball was Cross. There may have been others.
