Pomeroy predicted a 67-59 win for HC today -- we won 68-59. That guy is good.

HC took the foot off the pedal a bit near the end, but never stoped hustling for the ball. The MA grab and time out by RC was beautiful! HC appears to be getting things together as we now head toward PL play.
Massey had it 70-59. He was right on target if PB had hit either of those 1-1. (Not bad for a dead actor)

Floyd red light from three, Kentucky? Yes--in perpetuity

Pat Benzan is beginning to give Torey Thomas a run for my favorite HC player of this century. I just love watching him (as Sota suggests above) and the word that comes to me is one I and others have used about him repeatedly: "smart". He is one smart ballplayer in my opinion.

Benzan is indeed a very heady player. He uses his body very well gong to the basket to ward off defenders and the thing i like best about him is he knows his limitations and will only shoot from outside when there is no other choice. Its pretty obvious that Carmody thinks he has a chance to win this year and will play the core 6 a majority of the minutes in league play with Floyd's minutes determined by how he's playing that day. Don't think you'll see much of the rest of the bench unless there is foul trouble. I think he knows next year is going to be tough breaking in 5 freshmen with the returning members of this years roster.

Floyd red light from three, Kentucky? Yes--in perpetuity I watched him in warm up..He had a pretty good stroke going from the top of the key...His shot in the game, not so good....Looks like he is trying to develop that top of the key three to fit into the Offense. His free throw shooting has improved, so there is a chance...

Cheers.

Seems like we will be a seven man rotation for the rest of the season, with CLS / Zig getting minutes sparingly. in the pregame interview when CBC was asked had he established a 9 man rotation that he said that he wanted in preseason, he said yes but that he had to get more minutes for MZ & CLS; after the interview DL announced that TC had been dismissed by the College.

I just love watching him (as Sota suggests above) and the word that comes to me is one I and others have used about him repeatedly: "smart". He is one smart ballplayer in my opinion. We talked some last year about "win shares," a way to statistically measure individual contributions to that most important stat of all - wins. Coming into the game today, Karl and Malachi led the team with 1.3 and 1.2 shares, respectively, of the team's first five wins. Benzan is third. I was a skeptic last year but am really enjoying PB's play this year, too. I particularly appreciate his understanding of the game's continuity from one end of the court to the other - he's constantly in motion, and purposeful about it.

I think CBC saw early on this year that the offense flows better with PB at the point (though in the PO all the players on the court pass and cut) . He was looking for an opportunity to start him ,but did not want to "lose" AT. When the hip injury happened, it was an opening to start PB in the second half of that game and continue ongoing. AT is only player on bench to start game without warm-ups as he's pretty much guaranteed to come in after the 16 minute mark timeout. AT can show high-energy coming off the bench anyway. It is a delicate situation, and if AT makes some plays , Carmody usually praises him through the press. for his effort.

Not sure about the math, Woogray, but my observation is that MH starts the game and when he goes out, PB stays in and AT is subbing for MH. How is that not taking minutes from AT rather than PB? Anyway, that's been the rotation for the last few games since MH starting.
As for PB, I have observed that when he is in, he is literally running full speed almost 100% of the time. Whether running back after missed shots or when we are inbounding if he does not have the ball, the kid doesn't just trot down court even when the pace of AT bringing the ball up is leisurely. You can see CWC frequently yelling for the ball to be brought upcourt faster.PB is our team's Everready bunny, he keeps going and going and going and . . . .

PB has only started a couple games, due to AT's injury, but here's the arithmetic - AT averaged 32.4 mpg last year, and through eleven games this year, he's averaging . . . 32.4 mpg. Most games, they are out there at the same time. Benzan's extra minutes come from Husek and Cullen Hamilton's graduation
Look, I get it - Pat Benzan is in transition to full-time PG, and I'm very comfortable with that. But AT will likely be our primary PG the rest of the way this year.

I still feel like they both can contribute, and am rooting for them both to succeed; given the depth (or lack of), I can't see the team repeating without contributions from both.
DiMarz - I too was watching JF hoisting up threes before the game, and I agree, he looked good. I hope he keeps working on facing the basket in practice - if he doesn't develop a changeup, teams are eventually going to be sitting on his fastball, so to speak.
I'll take the win; hard to believe it's time for league play!

One thing I noticed today was CBC telling the team to play faster...Not fast break and fire up shots, but move the ball quicker, pass it sooner and cut sharper. Make Marist work harder on D..This seems to be a new wrinkle for the 'Saders as the guys figure out the offense...

The 17 assists on 24 fg puts us back on track after a few low assist games. Up to .670 assist per fg, 9th in the country, but the 6 directly above us are well within reach.
