You don't mind if I savor Harvard Coach Tim Murphy's comment that the facilities at Holy Cross are incredible, do you? This expectation that a small private college can sponsor 27 sports and have every facility and venue be brand spanking new with state of the art amenities gets tiresome. You have an historic stadium that's safe to use and fully paid for, you treasure it, imo and use the savings from not having to build new to add new resources like the Luth. Someone made a good point that Fitton Field is the front door of the campus. I agree and a beautiful new brick Stadium with classic lines would look great and you could add great amenities. But even at $190 million or something, Polar Park ran out of money for brick and went with a utilitarian metal facade. Fitton doesn't even have a facade. Just steel girders. But once you get inside your first view of the green grass is the same sensation as the first view when you come up the ramp to the stands at Fenway Park and view the field, it's fabulous. No one will disagree with anything you said. However...the structure/steel is old and will need to be addressed sooner rather than later. And get a new press/coaches box. If I was Vince I would consider giving the President's box to the press and invite your guests to sit on the fifty yard line of the home side. The President's seats at the Hart have typically been at mid court. The mostly young and fit assistant coaches for both teams could still climb to use the current press box for spotting.

Bloomberg Radio in NY just did 10 minutes on Polar Park and the upcoming HC/Harvard game. It sounded like they are broadcasting it in the Boston area and were hyping the game.
Their guest was Harvard Coach Tim Murphy and they discussed how the Harvard team was doing this year.
Then they asked him about the HC game and Murphy spoke for at least 3 minutes about what a powerhouse program Chesney has built at HC. He mentioned that Matt Sluka might be the leading candidate for FCS national player of the year. He talked about the facilities at HC being incredible and, in addition to having "an offense that easily put up 50 points in a game", stated that the HC overall "basically has no weaknesses".
The host on Bloomberg ended it by saying what an interesting game this looks to be and that he will be watching for sure.
Real nice publicity.
Just checked. The game, as are most Harvard games, will be broadcast on 1130 AM, 106.1 FM WRCA which is Bloomberg Radio. They should post that to our site also. Harvard has a link to listen online. Call me old fashioned but I wish we had a radio partner. Heck Westwood One should be sending our games out around the country! If we move to the CAA we might get a mention on the Grand Ole Opry before the Campbell game.

Murphy was likely talking about the indoor football facility which is only 80 yards...He wasn't talking about the subpar lacrosse field, average at best soccer field and the subpar field hockey field. And noone compares Fitton Field to visiting Fenway for the first time....

If the fields are safe to play on, that's 99% of the battle. After that you add upgrades and amenities as you can afford to. The idea that colleges can spend millions of dollars because the photographer calls their fields sub par is absurd and putting the cart way in front of the horse. Having so many playing venues right on campus is fabulous for an older city school. Only the golf, indoor track and rowing teams have to leave campus that I can think of. I suppose Cross country has to leave campus but they can run right back if they choose to. I'm not sure what the route is, maybe they do use a route with less traffic elsewhere.

Look at the results on the field....I think the lack of amenities at HC have a little something to do with it.

Matthew Sluka Playing Like A Walter Payton Award Favorite
Sluka is one of the most entertaining players to watch in the FCS. The dual-threat QB will take Holy Cross far in the playoffs if he keeps this play up, just like he did against SDSU in last year’s quarterfinals where it was a tie game heading into the fourth.
Holy Cross, No. 4 on HERO Sports’ Top 25 ballot, has a Walter Payton Award frontrunner leading its offense.
Sluka is the highest-graded FCS QB on PFF. In four games, he has thrown for 781 yards, 10 TDs, and one interception along with 365 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Against P5 Boston College, he threw for 130 yards and ran for 135 yards.
Sluka has a moxie to him that rubs opponents the wrong way but his teammates rally behind. He’s the emotional and physical leader of the team, and one of the toughest guys in the FCS to contain.

FWIW, 5/5 of the Globe sport's staff pick HC to win tomorrow. 4/5 pick UMass to beat Arkansas State, BC to beat Virginia and ND to beat Duke. Hope all predictions are spot on.

haskins hasn't had as great a start to the season as we might have expected, but very glad he's healthy as he's obviously a key contributor to the defense. i suspect his play will pick back up to the high levels we've seen before very soon.

Been a while since we've beaten Harvard in consecutive meetings (1991-92).

Not sure whether this has been discussed here but is there some reason that Sluka loses his helmet so often?
I've watched many college games that no one has their helmet come off. Yet Matt seems to lose his at least once a game.
Are the opposing players ripping at it? Seems very unusual.

He appears to fasten the strap (1 not two on each side) but yes, it does seem opponents rip at it.

The HC fan reputation seems to be growing!
An HC football game may soon be the "place to be!"

Love to see this! I feel like the BC game put us on the map (literally haha) as a fan base. Have to show up and show out tomorrow evening.
I know Matt wears a headband under the helmet, but I have seen players with huge heads of hair with or without headbands, bandanas, and durags lose their helmet less frequently. Baffling to me. I know on a few occasions last year opponents were ripping at the helmets. Didn't know Mac Jones played defense at FCS schools!

x.com/kstone06/status/1707793491542134923?s=46&t=zUtf0AuM8T0c8UVJhAwAUwI’m not sure if this comment was made by a player or Coach Tim Murphy. I don’t have a subscription to NE Football, but maybe someone else here does and can look it up. Harvard’s non conference schedule this year: St. Thomas (PFL) Holy Cross Howard I’m sorry. This is not a “brutally tough schedule.”
