I'm really curious about this move by Coach Dan. I'm assuming he will get an increase in pay; wonder if he had a prior relationship with Autry (The Basketball Tournament, maybe?). I'm curious because I'm wondering if this might be the start of a trend - sitting low D-1 coaches latching on to a position in the pro-college division of NCAA basketball. Maybe he is as optimistic about the future of low D-1 ball as I am (which is, not very). He also had a couple of really good freshmen hit the portal; maybe that played a part. At any rate, good luck to a good guy. Wish JB a good transition as well. He recruited like crazy to get pretty good players to the Mount, a school of 900 undergraduates, plus grad students and seminary. I think his move was to get away from the day to day pressures of the NIL and portal. A good coach and terrific guy who cares about his craft and his players. MSM’s website says they have 1766 full-time undergraduate students.

Must have grown over the last few years-- what can I say, does that include the seminary students, and general studies for residents of the local community?

Choosing not to wait until Billy Donovan ends his Bulls season. Kentucky chooses alum Mark Pope of BYU, a polar opposite of Calipari. The carousel continues. Portal numbers and decommits will grow.

Pope was captain of the 1996 championship team. His teammate Jeff Sheppard is the father of UK’s sensational freshman Reed Sheppard. I think UK fans will be happy with the new coach . I’ll report back what I hear

I predict disappointment at not getting a bigger name. The AD set the fans up for disappointment by flirting with Oats, Donovan and Hurley, all unrealistic options.

After being fired, then getting his Long Beach team to the Dance, Don Monson is the new coach at Eastern Washington.

The Nichols coach is leaving Dudley to go to UTRGV to become associate head coach. I had not realized that he had played at URI for two years before later transferring to Assumption in the mid 1990's.

But one of the nicest to meet in person.
Back in the day, ( February of 1965) I sat next to him during game one of a NBA double headed at Convention Hall in Philadelphia. The Knicks were playing game one and the Sixers were in game two. Luke was coming off having been a member of the US Olympic Basketball team. He could not have been more gracious.
Sitting in the section were some of the legends of college hoops, including Hal Lear ( who years later became the stepfather of a HC Alum), Ira Harge, and Jim Washington to name some that I remember.
Those were the days when there were NBA double headers, and admission for children was about 2 dollars. On certain promotion nights, a basketball was included with your ticket. And yes, Dave Zinkoff was the PA announcer.

Meanwhile in Lexington KY the introduction of UK’s new coach Mark Pope drew a standing room only crowd of 20,000+ fans to Rupp Arena on Sunday. I think that answers the question about Wildcats fans’ first reaction to the new coach.
