FGs and lack of control and depth on KO’s are an issue

Say what you will about the defense, but to only give up 13 points in the second half (and score 6 of their own) after giving up 34 in the first was a nice turn around. It wasn’t pretty, but they made the two plays they needed to when it mattered most. Was what I was hoping for in the first half, HC stopped them once for every time they got a TD. First half, 5 out of 6, which is pretty bad. Hope it continues. Beat Lehigh!

FGs and lack of control and depth on KO’s are an issue Coverage was pretty good today. Just keep the damn ball in bounds!

Like how Chesney took no chances at the end. Did not want it to end up 4th down and a few seconds left and risk a punt or something else. So Pesansky burned off 4-5 seconds on the first two downs before taking a knee.
If only Tom Gilmore had met him 10 or so years ago, he might still be HC's head coach.

Only 5 penalties today for 35 yards, good improvement in this area.

Great win but I don't think the outcome would have been much different if Sluka had played. Matt Who-ka? Obviously, I jest, but what a gutsy, high-character win by the guy who has willingly stood by for the past three years and supported the premier QB at the FCS level. Many players with Joe P’s talent would have packed their bags and moved on to a school where they would be the #1 guy. Today’s effort showed Joe’s football capabilities, but his still being at HC and being ready when his number was called shows me the depth of this young man’s character. Congratulations to Joe and to the entire team - especially today to those players who have showed up for years and have thus contributed to every win and suffered through every loss - without ever seeing game action. We wouldn’t be where we are today, and where we’ve been for the past few years without you.

Gentlemen, sometimes I may be critical but this is the best game I've seen in years. Not because of the outcome, but because of the moxy we played with.. Not pretty all the time, but damn if the boys didn't play as a team. We left with a win.. Damn I love football...

In this current 7 game win streak against Fordham, we have trailed in every game but have come back to win.
A shout out to our players who never quit, our coaching staff for making the proper adjustments and to Coach Grautski’s conditioning.
And maybe to the rain delay in Fall 2021, lol.
I also find it interesting that in Spring of 2021, we discovered we had our future QB, and I think we discovered that yesterday as well.

Kudos to the Crusaders and their coaches. They snatched victory from the jaws of defeat Saturday at Fordham. It was a very satisfying win. Proud as hell of them.

...as are all Crusader fans. As HCBC said, there is still work to do and some things to be cleaned up. The work will be done and things will be cleaned up. I believe that because every member of this team believes it and shows it as well.

FGs and lack of control and depth on KO’s are an issue I know the # of attempts if very few, but our K is amazingly accurate on PATs for also being totally ineffective so far on what should be pretty make-able FGs. Like our young secondary taking its lumps, I fully expect him to build upon this season and get the confidence up on longer kicks as his career progresses. Obviously, he had the leg in HS to get recruited to a DI school. Seeing Chesney opt to go for it in almost every potential FG situation can't be good for his confidence. Hopefully he realizes, that it's not him, it's our phenomenal offense that factors mostly into those decisions.

You are one tough grader. Making 2 of 4 attempts is not really "totally ineffective" is it? Small number of attempts, as you said, and he clearly has the leg to get FGs, but why go for 3 when 6 seems to be always "right there?"

I believe that because every member of this team believes it and shows it as well. True that. I was discussing the prognosis in the stands pre-game with former HC Football student manager Ashley Alebiosu '12. We knew it was going to come down to the defense making 1 or 2 key stops. And of course it was the pick-6 and the stop on the 2 pointer that won the game for us. What poise the offense and Joe P showed as well. They knew we couldn't sacrifice ANY of the expected weekly production, and they delivered. With Matt in the lineup, my 63-48 final score prediction may have actually come to fruition. As it stands now, HUGE win. Now on to our next "one game season" against Lehigh in Bethlehem.

Does Sluka win Offensive Player of the Week again? He's averaging 170 yards rushing the last two weeks. Insane.

What is the squad limit for a visiting team in the PL? Does that limit apply at Army as well? Defenders keep going down and going to be a factor in a ground-and-pound game, maybe even at Lehigh.

The sudden switch in tenor on this thread reminded me of the HC-Bucknell March 2016 basketball game thread ("the shot").

Here's the Holy Cross advantage/(deficit) by half for those 7 games:
Year= 1st Halk/2nd Half=final result
2017=EVEN/+22= HC wins by 22 points 42-20 2018= (10)/+14= HC wins by 4 points 17-13 2019= (14)/+36= HC wins by 22 points 49-27 2020= (1)/+11= HC wins by 10 points 34-24 2021= EVEN/+28= HC wins by 28 points 52-24 2022= (3)/+4= HC wins by 1 point in OT 53-52 2023= (6)/+8 = HC wins by 2points 49-47
Composite=(5)/+18= HC wins by 13 points
Composite-= Fordham leads 19-14 at half-time and HC dominates the second half outscoring Fordham 28-10 for a final score for 42-29

Got to speak to a few of the guys after the game. I want to shout out to Pat Haughney who had but 2 punts and they both went 52 yards. I suggested to him it was his best day punting all year and he readily agreed. He had a fistful of cigars that he got from his Dad after the game. I would suggest to you that the guys' attitude was like they won another PL championship and excited to hoist the Ram-Crusader Cup for the 7th straight year. They agreed that this was a "typical" HC-Fordham back & forth game and it seems the team who has the ball last wins the game. That's almost always us! Coach Chesney was extremely happy for Joe P., as he should be. Joe's another class act. I've said before that Coach Chesney either knows how to recruit kids of high character or he develops them to that level. Suspect it's a lot of both. I know we've lost 3 games but these guys deserve another crack at the playoffs and they will focus on what they can control - 1 game at a time.
