AWP looks at this point of the season to be playing very good BB. Up 38-25 at the half over Navy. Swarming physical defense and shooting nearly 47%. They are legit I think. They look to be a very different team than the one we played and beat by 15 in early January. Granted, they have had a couple of bad losses to Lafayette, but good wins over Colgate & BosU. PL continues to be a mystery this season. Army is a competitive/athletic team. Definitely a contender this season. Their Lafayette losses are stunning but it is really due to their lack of understanding with how to run zone offense. Lafayette plays a lot of zone and gave them that both times. Against man D, Army can beat anyone in the league if their freshmen show up to play.

Wow. If we are not denying the inbounds out high, then why isn't everyone sitting in the paint?

Second-best team in NE? Got to be Fairfield, 22-1; one three point loss on the road to 19-7 Vandy (coached by Shea Ralph).

Second-best team in NE? Got to be Fairfield, 22-1; one three point loss on the road to 19-7 Vandy (coached by Shea Ralph). Might be, but it’s far from certain. Massey and at least one other rating model have Boston College well ahead of Fairfield. The reason is that Fairfield has played one of the weakest schedules in the country, while BC’s schedule is around number 50.

Loyola tied at the top of the standings with HC and Army at 8-5 after shooting 64 pct from the field in 93-76 win today over Lehigh - wouldn’t it be nice to see an HC team that can shoot the ball like that ? !

Pending today's results, the top seven teams in the PL are .500 or above. Good balance.

Pending today's results, the top seven teams in the PL are .500 or above. Good balance. Good balance, yes. But also mediocrity. I thought both teams played well today. It's a shame that the PL has little opportunity after the OOC season to be able to show if play has been improving compared to other mid major leagues. The PLT winner will surely play a top seed and get blown out in the NCAA tournament. The new secondary tournament and the WNIT, if it survives offer some opportunity to play competitive post season games against other mid majors. The FCS football tournament is ideal for a school the size of HC. An NCAA tournament to crown the national mid-major champion would offer a similar opportunity to HC basketball. On the men's side there would be reluctance to lose a cut of the big dance revenue and the unmatched prestige and glamor of earning a bid. The women's NCAA tournament isn't as well established, although getting there steadily. It will never happen but I would love HC to have a shot at a mid major Natty. Currently the PL winner gets to raise an NCAA participation banner to the rafters but that's it.

It's also a shame that most teams in the PL schedule so weak. Most teams played vs. D3 teams this year and a couple programs played multiple games vs non-D1 teams. ADs need to step in and eliminate that practice except for exhibition contests. It hurts the league. Bucknell and AU may have gotten smashed in their OOC games the last couple seasons but at least they challenge themselves.

Any split of March Madness unfortunately sends the lower half to obscurity. The many D2 schools that have moved up will testify to that; they'd all be back there along with The Cross and many others.
