Makes me wonder if Matt has a place in mind already.

Let’s add another quarterback to the Sluka-Poffenbarger debate. This guy had following stats Att= 275 Comp= 155 Yards= 1,875 TD= 16 INT= 8 Comp %= 56.4% Yards:Att= 6.8 TD%= 8.5% INT %= 4.3% Would you take this guy over Sluka or Poff? Also FCS player Any opinions on this third guy? The third guy walks. Unless his identity reveals an intangible this stat profile doesn't. Sluka has great stats especially with an arm injury for an unknown duration this season. Ches knows that. Plus his throwing is like a free upgrade thrown in if you pay full price for his running. Well, the third guy is actually the stats you get when you subtract Sluka’s stats from Poffenbarger’s, intended to demonstrate that Matt had better passing stats.

Would JMU sign Brandon Huffman if Jordan McCloud was coming back? Would Brandon Huffman (who did start a full [albeit not so good] season a couple of years ago for Washington) sign on at JMU if Jordan McCloud (the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year) was coming back? Looks like McCloud is not coming back and Chesney went for one of the best available QBs in the portal. Before the music stops.

So did Sluka sour on Chesney or did Chesney say no to Matt ? Is their a third option ?

Would Matt be open to a QB competition at JMU? Would he do so at a P4 school like Ark or Nebraska? Lot of interesting questions to be answered in time. Perhaps Matt is still thinking P4

Are there many/any P4 schools looking for a run first QB ?

Going to Nebraska with Rhule to compete with Dylan Raiola is one thing. Going to JMU with your former head coach to compete is a whole other story. I can't imagine JMU is still an option for him at this point.
I'm very curious who said no to whom here.

Could Matt have entered the portal believing that Chesney wanting him was a sure thing ?

No coach in the country knows Matt’s capabilities more than BC knows Matt’s capabilities.

Could Matt have entered the portal believing that Chesney wanting him was a sure thing ? Uhm no...he entered the portal before Chesney left....before Chesney's current job even opened up, so even if you want to believe Chesney and the team knew he was leaving, Chesney didnt know where he was going or what the QB situation would be.

Teams want their new QB at spring ball. Sluka can’t do that.

Yes, when there were strong rumors of Chez looking at Syracuse (and vice versa), Sluka entered the portal. 11/20/2023. Not saying one was related to the other.

Teams want their new QB at spring ball. Sluka can’t do that. “ can’t” or won’t ? If can’t, did that not severely limit his options ? If he did not want to transfer now, It seems as if he must have strongly believed that some schools would have taken him despite his not playing in this spring.

Fair...here's a question for those that know more of this than me...in looking to confirm the timing of Sluka's announcement, I noted that he "entered the portal as a grad transfer", does that status mean anything? I.e. does he have to actually graduate? If so, it precludes joining any team for spring practice. Could Sluka (or anybody similarly situated) simply entered as a transfer and either withdrawn from HC for spring or only taken 1 class, not graduate from HC, then go to another school for a semester to earn undergrad degree?

I feel like Hamilton Berger who just got schooled by Perry Mason. Nice way to build your case, especially for a non-attorney Bourbon Steward.🤣

You say grad transfer, I say NFL, let's call the whole thing off...and play in the CFL! That's another option we haven't discussed much. You tear up the CFL and the NFL notices. Eh?

The NFL will notice with a deep run in the FCS playoffs as well. Haven't been a ton of CFL players " matriculating " to the NFL lately

The NFL will notice with a deep run in the FCS playoffs as well. Haven't been a ton of CFL players " matriculating " to the NFL lately Although Americans like Fenerty and Flutie have played in the CFL, apparently the CFL draft now is only open to players at Canadian Colleges and Canadians who played at American colleges. Probably Americans get added to rosters as free agents or maybe they have a supplemental draft.

I don't think I've seen this question, so I'll ask: is it possible Sluka didn't want to go to JMU?

I had originally though Max Brosmer (UNH) was a decent comparator (Northeast QB, FCS, 1 year of eligibiliy) to Sluka. But Max's arm is obviously FBS ready, he seemed to have Minnesota assurances when he entered the portal, and quickly committed to Minnesota. According to SI: "He already has reported offers from Western Michigan, Minnesota, Western Kentucky and Buffalo, with more on the way."

/\ There is an awards banquet tonight for the big FCS awards (Walter Payton, etc.) which may explain why he'd be out there.

Not knowing specifics but beyond your comment, Matt is certainly not looking for CFL at this time. Having spoken to one of our players who does qualify and has had strong interest from the CFL, he told me he will not go this route as the pay is peanuts and he'd rather go to grad school as a transfer or possibly even come back to HC. Matt is higher profile and the likelihood of him pursuing this would seem minimal to none.
