Can we wait to see if Coach is leaving first? I would like him to stay and don't want to tempt the fates.

They should talk to Reno at Yale. He is very familiar with the Worcester area. He's a Massachusetts guy and I believe he lives in Sturbridge. Pay him more than what he gets at Yale!

My vote is for Chris Smith of the NY giants. i agree.
Note the paragraph:
"I was an economics and accounting major at Holy Cross, and I did an internship at GE in financial management in 2008 … and I hated it," Smith told The News last fall before a Holy Cross game at UB. "The corporate atmosphere wasn’t for me. I was in the second round of a job interview for an accounting job after college and I turned it down to coach. You realize at some point, it’s more about being happy than it is about being rich, and if you love something, do it. I said, “If I could ever make it back as a full-time coach at HC, I’ve made it.” And I’m doing this at Holy Cross."

When and if Bob Chesney leaves, we can discuss Chris Smith as Bob's successor. Not now. But that's a great quote.

Chesney hasn’t even left yet and many of you have him already gone. Hope he doesn’t actually read these things. If he does leave maybe he’ll be fortunate enough to go to school and program where the fans actually care more about sitting in the stands watching their great team then hanging out Tailgating through the entire game. Not to mention all the students that never make it into the game. And the kids drinking through the game in the parking lots which brings up other issues. The support for the team is poor. I’ve been to many other college environments while traveling for work and seeing student sections that are full and energetic. I was late arriving for a game one time due to a family commitment and while walking through the baseball parking lot , I witnessed a bunch of clowns, fully decked out in their Holy Cross gear with a Holy Cross ez-up, holy cross cups, table cloths, etc. listening to the game on the radio and cheering when they heard a good play, meanwhile, the game is actually going on not 50 yards from them. Pathetic. Way to support the team (and Chesney). And another thing maybe he’ll go to a school that actually has a band that you can hear during the game and before the game and after the game. I remember my father saying that that was one of the things that Rick Carter asked for when he came here years ago. I remember how great that was. There’s a lot of hypocrite HC fans. You want a great coach and you want a great team but the support doesn’t match that. As a whole, I feel like we don’t deserve Chesney or the team that we have had in recent years.

I take your point about those tailgating while the game is being played a few yards away, but HC supports its football team better than most PL and IL schools. Totally disagree with your statement that HC doesn't deserve Chesney. Ridiculous. Did you go to HC?

I think you have no idea what you are talking about. We actually all would love Chesney to stay. We want here for as long as we can. I would have loved to play for him. I think you are conflating our fear of losing him or respect for his ability with our understanding that that he deserves to be a P5 coach. He is great.

We're not matching Umass' band or the JMU Marching Dukes. Both are fantastic. Imagine a school of 3,000 having over 400 band members, which is the Dukes' band size.

Not sure what “did I go to Holy Cross” has to do with anything. Been a fan for over 50 years. Agree that the real Holy Cross fans come out and support the team. And yes more so than a lot of PL IL fan bases. We’ve all seen that in road games. My point was with fans that never come in and stay out tailgating, and that this team with all their successes deserve better than that. I’m sure the team would love to play in front of a packed house full of energy as anybody who has ever played sports can attest to. And I’m sure the coaches would like to see that support as well. Do we not think Chesney could find that environment somewhere else? And I’m not comparing Holy Cross to other PL and IL schools but to programs trying to win a national championship. If that’s what we’re talking about here then, there are better environments than Fitton Field. For the record, I remember full houses back in the 70s and 80s and when they added seating due to the crowds.

And yes, all my thoughts about Coach Chesney are for fear of losing him and us taking a step back.
I think the Chris Smith as replacement contingent is coming from a place where we feel he's the closest thing we have to BC that it'd help stabilize the program.

I think it’s ridiculous to think that the horrible attendance at the home games shows great support for the program and coaches. Where is all the alumni if it’s important whether or not somebody actually went to Holy Cross? Where are all the students? My dad was one of only two non-alumni members of the varsity club back when they used to do ticket drives to get people in the stands. I don’t see any real energy put into that kind of support for the team. It’s a shame. Go to all the local schools in Worcester and surrounding towns and hand out free tickets. Get people in the stands. No one is saying we have to have a huge band like UMass, but have one that actually plays. I remember the Sacred Heart FCS playoff game a couple years ago. Holy Cross didn’t even have their band there, but Sacred Heart had theirs. No need to come back at me. We all want the same thing. I just wish the people in charge on the hill would hear some of this.

If you and your family have supported HC over the years a big tip of the hat.

The HC contingent of fans owned Alumni Stadium at BC in Septembah....yes, we may not have great #'s....but the fans we do have are some of the most loyal and supportive in America imo.

HC and Florida St might have been the only two huge crowds at Alumni this year. Packed Michie as well! One of their biggest crowds as well.
