Ooh, PSU. I hadn't considered that before. That's a good shout for his eventual P5 landing spot. Why would Franklin leave Penn State? Because they will move on from him......he simply can not beat Michigan or Ohio State.

Yes, I think Chesney has the drive, the talent, and the character to succeed at any level, but you raise factors that might be beyond his control. I'm sure he knows what he's getting into.

As a PA guy, I wouldn't be surprised, if he is able to continue JMU's success in the realm of NIL and the portal, he will get his P4 shot and he would love for it to be at PSU.

JMU message board largely foaming at the mouth at the idea of bringing in Sluka. The JMU QB, who is also very good, is in the portal.

From the notes on the podcast, expectation that BC will be at JMU for no more than five years. If he is successful at JMU, he will be gone. (And the converse: if he is not successful at JMU. he'll be gone as well.)

I won't lie, I don't think he even makes it 5 years. If he does well (which I expect), I think he's gone in 3.

An interesting but unlikely buy-out clause in Chesney's HC contract would be the acquiring school pays HC $100K for each win over the first three years at the new school. No upfront payment and the AD from the G-5 school probably hopes to move on up as soon as possible to be long gone when the final total is in.🙂

I could absolutely see that. If he was in contention for P4 jobs now, I think a lot of schools will be fine taking him on now that he'll have a little FBS seasoning.
I get the reasoning from those schools, though I dont agree with it. I think BC fumbled the bag being too cheap to buy out Hafley (literally couldn't afford it), and I think Syracuse may end up regretting it as well.
But a school is going to come along totally fine paying a ton of money to buy him out some day soon.

I hope he has a good defensive coordinator at JMU. If we had any kind of defense the last couple of seasons we could have gone a lot further.

We would've been an absolute machine this year in 2023 if not for the growing pains on defense and special teams. Our defense/ST from 2022 + Dobbs healthy combined with our offense this year...we legitimately mightve been the best team in the country outside of SDSU. But, it's football. 3 phases...

I'm not wishing him ill will, but I am 100% Irish after all lol, I just have a feeling this isn't going to be the honeymoon for him many think it will be at JMU...different culture, different types of kids etc....it will be interesting to watch from afar.

Salve Regina, Assumption and Holy Cross are also very different in terms of student body makeup. Same region, but totally different applicant pools. I think he'll be fine. The institutional support at JMU is going to be huge with the program just having moved up to FBS. the only question is whether their tremendous season this year sets too high of a bar. If Chesney goes 8-4 every year the next 4 years, will that be enough to quench the thirst of JMU alum who saw an 11-1 season in their FBS debut?

Basically what I'm saying here....Ray-Bans can coach and won't fall on his face at JMU but I question how much success he actually will have there. It's not a reclamation project which was pretty much what he faced at his 3 earlier stops....just saying it's a different dynamic for him from what he stepped into at Newport and Worcester.

While I do look forward (if time) to see what he accomplishes at JMU, if BC poaches underclassmen from HC - ALL BETS ARE OFF. Whether he stays there or is bought by a higher level school down the road I do not care...if he decides that is what he wants.

I'm sure there will be a couple guys that follow, whether they be current underclassmen or incoming recruits but nothing earthshaking.

In addition to missing Coach , I'll also miss seeing His Dad roaming the sidelines while providing support and encouragement to BC and the Team.

When I kidded Sr. that Bob learned everything he knows from him, his response was, "I have an undergraduate degree in coaching and Bob has a Ph.D." At the last football kickoff, he was having a beer and had a refresher bottle on the bar in front of him. I told him "I was going to buy you a beer but I see you have one and another on deck and wouldn't want to be responsible for what might happen with a third beer." His response: "Tom, I'm from Pennsylvania, that'd be no problem. They don't even hit my sides." I bought him another but had to leave but was happy to see him on the sidelines a couple days later none the worse for wear. Great guy and the proof in the pudding is we have a picture of him with my grandson who really likes him. If he passes muster with my grandson, he's good enough for me.

I haven't seen anything confirmed. I imagine we'll find out some during or right after his press conference.
The only one I'm pretty sure about is Grautski
